Why would someone who likes and it talented in one genre take a huge risk and change styles? Almost 100% if the time it fails, horribly. Now if he were allowed to use his creepy twists to make it HIS kind of sci fi, it would be good, by his standards, but it would suck to you cos it'd still be "goth".
He already has an audience, if you like him, cool, if not, you most likely won't, no matter what he does, so he doesn't really care to try.
What in the World IS this? What are the "Venue Songs" (is it some sort of collection of TMBG songs, or a new album of some sort, or...?), and why is the PC guy from the Apple commericals a derranged millionaire?? haha. Seriously though, what's this all about?
songs named after TMBG singing venues, such as the TLA in Philly. John Hodgson, deranged millionaire and PC character, is the world's most brilliant comedian and author, with resemblance to a certain deranged Billion.., no it's purely coincidental. They Might Be Giants, of course, are the world's most Brilliant band, with resemblance towards no deranged millionaires or billionaires.
Seeing the comments below, I disagree with the people saying this should have been on "The Spine." That album had a distinct mood, and this song would feel out-of-place on that album.
The clock part is cool. Plus thats a Seth Thomas clock. I have one just like it. It's the kind of clock you see in old schools. The elementry school I went to was being torn down years ago so I went inside and took some old stuff nobody wanted or needed. When the new shcool was build they ordered all new supplys so lots of stuff was left there, clocks, chalkboards with erasers left on them, paintings that kids did. It was pretty creepy.
Why wasn't this on the Spine, then? Strange omission. Then again, Sensurround never ended up on a proper album either, and that was the best song ever.
"The Spine Surfs Alone" is TMBG's best EP, in my opinion. An awesome collection of disturbing songs.

No, John Linnel is thinner with a much weirder face.
That was John Hodgeman, AKA "I'm a PC" or that guy from the Daily Show.

Wrong. It was Linnell.

why is it that all stop motion animation that hits main stream has to be this gothic stuff?!
I'd like to see Tim Burton do sci fi. it is so like of him to remake alice in wonderland.
Turbosoaker41 2 years ago 2
To be fair there isn't really much mainstream stop motion any more.

Does anyone notice how the various clips are arranged in chronological order? You can tell by looking at the clock as you slide the tracker forward.

The song reminds me of Tom Waits. Has anyone watched the clock in the background of the deranged millionaire?

Kickass... these venue songs blow most of the Spine out of the water!
VonRichter 4 years ago
This isn't a venue song, it was recorded during The Spine's sessions for The Spine Surfs Alone, an EP that came out the same day as the album.
