THANK YOU for the enlightenment! Indeed you are GREAT guy! You inspire me very very much to Scrum! AGAIN - VERY VERY WELL DONE! KEEP THE GREAT SPIRIT!
Hi I am new to Scrum. And I saw your video as a first step in exploration of the methodology. I like it in the way it has summarized in just 10 minutes without beating around the bush.
I was with you... until you mentioned: "I wouldn't call the stand-up meetings a core practice of Scrum". That hurt.
Two major reasons to do the daily stand-ups: Team stays informed about who does/did what, (this avoids double work and improves knowledge of the innards of the project), and, most of all: what impediments were present, and how to avoid them in the future. "Inspect and adapt" is a core practice in Scrum.
you did a great job... thanks for making me understand what agile methodology us... I hope you will come up with similar short videos on different methodologies
Great. Another project management system to learn. This is like the fifth one this year. WTF. I'll think I'll stick to "make", "rcs" and a little custom programming to get our projects out. It's been working for 30 years.... :)
This is an excellent and detail explanation of Scrum, Thanks Hamid
@mberteig he never said that Scrum Master IS the PM, he said it's sort of like the PM and explained the differences, You should listen to it at your own speed since he also mentions that it's fast paced.
He says the Scrum Master is "essentially a Project Manager, but that's such a boring title. So we'll call him a Scrum Master to imply he knows some Jiu-jitsu." So, yes, he basically said Project Manager = Scrum Master. See: 1:32.
This is a terrible description of Scrum. I'm a Certified Scrum Trainer and there are many incorrect statements and omissions about Scrum. For example, a ScrumMaster is _not_ a project manager. In fact, the two roles are very different and in Scrum there is no such thing as a project manager. One of the main differences is that a ScrumMaster must help a team self-organize whereas a project manager often assigns tasks (this is the opposite of self-organizing).
@mberteig Aren't you bound to say that as a certified scrum trainer :) Shame you can't post a training video onn here and get everyone to pay £500 to view it ;)
I'm in the semiconductor business and I plan the back end CAD and PG process for large, core and spin IC (chip) projects. I actually think I can adapt some of this methodology into how I track my layout team/progress and defect backlog. I can draw quite a few parallels between software/hardware development cycles , if one has an open mind and some creativity--- thanks great stuff!
For the past 16 years I've been a technical trainer and am also an enterprise architect; so from a presentation point of view I'd like to say that you did a great job! And you also did a great job in condensing technical terms into non-technical concepts, while keeping the topic interesting. Outstanding!
Hi I'm from Sweden studing to be an It manager and we just read about scrum, your way of explaining it it's so much more cool. I will recomend to all my friends!!
People who are criticizing the presenter are in wrong place to begin with. This video is not for you. I am a PMP and I wanted to know about this methodology, and I got it in ten minutes. If you know anything about PM, you will know what he is talking about, otherwise go watch something else.
I completely disagree with how he showed few of the things there. A Scrum Master is absolutely NOTHING like a project manager, the fact that he mentioned that we just wanted to have a cooler name removes all the credibility. Also, there are no roles like testers in the Scrum, in general it's well explained the guidelines of Scrum but I don't think he truly understand the principles behind it.
@clray123 Also except for the idiotic sprint at the start of a new R&D project.
We're going to build a new car. Or, we're looking into using a new Intel i7 processor for some hardware. Have a first sprint working prototype in 4-6 weeks.
I think it's crazy that there are no good scrum apps. The excel spreadsheets I see going around are useless. Isn't there something where I can turn my entire browser screen into a white board covered in post-its and switch to a burn down view, etc?
@aaronlloydpeterson there are many such tools. I personally can suggest Agilo, also Scrumwise looks very nice (still in beta). Others would be Pangoscrum, AgileZen, Tinypm, ThoughtWorks Studios, VersionOne, ScrumWorks Pro and Banana Scrum.
Uh, techwizization ... I think Hamid's point was that we should focus on the core principles of Scrum and not got too worked up over the ceremonies and rituals. If you have a high-performing team operates according to basic Scrum principles, the team ought to have a bit of latitude. Some teams choose to meet less often or to relax meeting constraints. I favor delivering the goods over dogma.

uhm... this video is awesome! i didnt quite get everything in school, we had a scrum project and everything but it clearly wasnt the same as you described it in the video. our project should have had a real scrum master.
Salam Hamid, great video. I think you did a great job explaining the Scrum process. What software did you use to create your video? I am looking for a software to create a video with animation similar to what you have done here.
Though I have one question: What if we want to add a new feature (very important one) after the sprint has started and everything is already scheduled?
I thought it was great. Today was my first day to discover the SCRUM methodology. I've been doing some research and became familiar with the terms prior to watching your video and your summary comfirmed my understanding -- in 10 MINUTES!
You're a master I have to say. However it is not right to stick with what you know already... Should improve continuously! Did that sound managerial or what? :)
amazing video. I was just checking on a few company's websites and noticed that the term SCRUM appeared almost everywhere. Now I know what the fuss is about.
Still, i do have a question. Somehow I have the impression that scrums assumes that the team members are 100% committed for the product.
My question is about resource management, and how to implement scrum in organizations where my team members are not there just for MY project? a Solution architect or business engineer, is there for 3 to 4 different projects. Maybe there is a short answer where I can say "AHA!" :-)
This is one of the best, most concise, elucidating videos that I have ever seen. From a production perspective it is fantastic, clear explanations, catchy graphics, logical progression, and nice summary. Congratulations. I would like to see more.
Great video, but slightly confused.. Is the order of backlogs: Product Backlog, Release Backlog and then Sprint Backlog? Our lecturer seems to have completely ignored the release backlog?
