Since top master luthier Michael Voltzs left Gibson and joined Epiphone in 2001 his main goal has always been to make Epiphone once again a great guitar company. Today Voltzs had most certainly done that And more. Most of today's Epiphone Sg's - Lp's - Flying V's - Dots - casinos and a few more are Top professional quality and every bit Gibsons equal and better. And its because or Mike Voltzs we can say that today with 100% truth and fact! Thanks again Michael Voltzs for making Epiphone great!
Hi, May I ask is that guitar neck heavy when standing up? I'm wanting to buy a flying v, and thinking of the epi 58 model, but wanted to see if it's neck heavy? I've had a couple gibson v's that were neck heavy and it drives me nuts..
@mrtwitchylizard These were '70's YAMAKI Pafs from a nice but cheap LP copy I have.....not available any more.....not sure who made them at the time....all the best....
@skaboosh Thank You I figured they were something based around a PAF. Im very close to pullin the trigger on one of these and then Ill drop in some kind of pickups that are based on a PAF. Once again thanks for the quick reply and I wish I had the tone you have in this video...kinda jealous!
Great sound, I wish I could play like that! I have one of those korinas, and it bothers my joints.(fibromyalgia) It's wide but thin, and I hate that! I play "baseball bats". My G-400 SG has a comfortable neck. I kept the'v' because it looked cool. I'm lookin' forward to checkin' out your other vids.
@MrNashguitar1 The neck on that guitar, (I think a copy of a 58?) was actually quite fat...the guitar was great....pissed that I sold it really....thanks for the comms...all the best. R.
I just ordered one of these and I'm waiting for it to come. From what you're doin it looks awesome and the sustain sounds amazing. My only concern is, are the stock pick-ups any good?
Definitely from an Aebersold book. Nothing but the blues. Mr. Super hip?
I have two saxophone jams on my page over some of these tracks. They're fun haha.
How is this guitar? It seems great! Unless you have some sort of sustain pedal on that thing then I might just get it based on only the amount of sustain haha. (I'm thinking of this or the korina explorer for my next guitaR)
very nice video great sound! i am noticing that epiphone flying v users actually use these guitars as they were intended-hard rock! instead, most gibson holders play metal crap on this great instrument
It's not neccessarily the guitar, but how you MAKE it sound. He does a fantastic job of making this particular guitar bluesy...I mean, Albert King used one, so...
I guess Albert King wasn't a blues player. Flying Vs original came out in 1958, long before they became associated with hard rock and metal. Its about the player not the guitar. If BB king wanted to get down a BC rich, he would still sound like BB king
Nice job. Plus I love the fact that you use A LOT of Gilmour's licks. I don't know if those are intentional but it gives a great sound while improvising or jamming.
its hard to play a V sitting down, but the thing i dont like about les pauls is there heavy, and the bridge and pickups get in the way when your trying to pick.
Anyone that has guitar doubts like what pick-ups,tuners,body,necks,yea rs,just and u dont have to subscribe to me,I'm Doing it because i want to help people.
I really like the sound you get out of this, especially with it just on the verge of feedback. I think your phrasing is good too . George Benson and Gary Moore are incredible players and they hardly ever use their little fingers...on the other hand there are loads of technically great players who are incredibly boring ( shredders mostly).
Hi, these pickups are 30 odd years old, so I'm guessing when I say they come without covers....because I have seen two pairs and both did not have covers, doesn't mean they didn't come with covers, it's just a hunch I have...

I used to have hope that I could play guitar really well one day and be one of the best guitarists around ( just like everyone else lol ) , then I heard you play and I'm like...ok I quit. LOL
i know ur kidding, but keep at it. its almost impossible, unless someone totally has no talent, to not get better as u progress. i can hold my own at a jam session, but im way far from being super amazing. it all comes in time
a tip u probly already know: rememebr to work on ur baby finger and learn scales, if u dont ur fucked like me :) lol, good luck with guitar, im sure ull be good soon :)
I use a BC Rich Warbeast at present, and I've used a Strat replica to learn on, so I think my guitars have an average neck in terms of thickness and stuff.
Meh, I should try it first, but there aren't many music stores around Liverpool and Southport... (Yes, I am British.)
My best advice I can give is: please take your time, do not rush into any purchase
there are flying V's with a smaller neck profile, this 58 reissue type guitar has a very fat neck....I personally think it gives more tone and more control...but it is definitely subjective...
yes, take your time, try a few different ones out, not just the 58 spec....it's worth the journey to visit a good guitar shop or two a few times...imo
I'm going to be playing things like Metallica, Megadeth, Pantera and stuff, but also play Blues, Jazz and things like that. The guitar sounds great, but is it any good for shredding?
Yes, the V is a major shredder. Kirk Hammett, Rhandy Rhoads, Dave Mustaine, and Toki Wartooth (from Metalocalypse) all use some type of V and they all sound amazing!
i want thar guitar soooo bad!!!!!!!!!!!!! it looks like the real one except for the epiphone... hahha , take care of that guitar man is beautiful!!!! and sounds awesome
Hi, thanks, yep, it is tricky in a way, you can straddle the V over your leg OK but it sits at a funny angle, some will find it ok and some won't, it's a suck it and see situation. All the best.
Great guitar it sounds very good and you're a pretty good guitarist. May I ask you how much does it costs and is it a great quality/price balance if you consider this guitar pretty heavy?
Hi, thank you. Ermm, I got mine second hand ages ago and probably paid £250 or some similar amount...I then sold it on ebay with no reserve and it went for £80. I thought I could whip out the auction at the last day but they changed the rules without my knowledge and so the auction ran on....... a cruel but useful lesson......always put a reserve on your auction....
is it just me or is the neck a bit heavy?cuz when i play standing the neck ALWAYS falls down.should i use a leather strap for more grip or a regualr nylon one?please help me
Yep, it is neck heavy and weird to balance...but I think I moved the strap button somewhere else to help stability, cannot remember exactly but you could try that.... a wide leather strap may move less, but it'll still be pulling away so that's only a half measure.... try moving the button in my opinion, but that's just my opinion.....I sold my V ....
Not low end epiphones or even mid range epiphones. But high end epiphones like the Elitist series can compete and are said to be as good as many Gibsons.
I can't remember what I paid, it was second hand, around £250 stirling, I think, and I sold it on ebay with no reserve for a shockingly low price,, we live and learn, hopefully....
I think those were original YAMAKI pickups I got out of an old Yamaki LP. I saw two sets and I would describe them as looking much like a Schaller version of the superdistortion by Di Marzio....two height screws on one side and the allen key studs. Medium/hot output & not very bright.

I can't remember what I paid, it was second hand, around £250 stirling, I think, and I sold it on ebay with no reserve for a shockingly low price,, we live and learn, hopefully....

is the sound close to the gibson?
rrecordable 3 years ago
generally yes, the Korina Epiphones are really good....very comparable to the standard gibson range in my opinion...
but it's all so personal and subjective

Very nice vibrato. That guitar doesn´t look or sound like epiphone at all.

What pickups???
GibsonGuitarsForever 3 years ago
I think those were original YAMAKI pickups I got out of an old Yamaki LP. I saw two sets and I would describe them as looking much like a Schaller version of the superdistortion by Di Marzio....two height screws on one side and the allen key studs. Medium/hot output & not very bright.
