well thank goodness no one committed vandalism on the Yamanote otherwise someone would have been arrested which they were not. More or less but I've heard from some there was a hiatus period of 2-3 years then it started up again. It's basically 1-2 hours which is 1-2 complete loops then most people go off to various costume parties thru-out Tokyo.
These days it seems to be more of a party appetizer. Most people barely get buzzed by the time it's over.

Well after thinking over my earlier comment, i guess i understand. I love Mikoshi (carrying miniature shrines) and participation of audience makes it more exciting. Nevertheless i still do not think it appropriate to get drunk and party in a public train. I think there is a more clever way to experience such Joy which is to get a road use permit from the authorities and do a Halloween parade or carnival in a well-received fashion.
It's not for me to say as I've only participated. The event goes way back before I ever thought of coming here and will probably continue long after I'm gone. With the increase participation of Japanese, it will probably become steadily more of a Japanese organized event as many gaijins are here for such short time.

What I liked about it was that it was a bit of playful mayhem which was very open to anyone who wanted to join whether in costume or not. Partiers are often very generous with their alcohol and snacks with partiers and commuters alike. Basically its just fun!

yeah, I bumped into her at a Hub in Shibuya just recently (during the Youtube Gathering in fact). She was embarrassed how drunk she was but she said she had a great time - she was actually one of the few real drunks as the party was from 9-10 and most of the people were heading to Roppongi and other Halloween parties later. The Halloween train was just an appetizer for most.

I often let trains go by if they are unnecessarily packed due to delay or events. Often the very next train is hardly crowded (except mornings).

Most of us are getting angry about such a disturbance. In Japan, being silent is usual manners in public trains. So, it is really ridiculous to make such a fuss and to trouble people in a train. The foreigners, especially white guys, must look down on us asians. I know they came to Japan to be looking for attention and to have a sense of their superiority here because most of them are LOSERS who are socially ignored in their countries. By the way, about the Hanshin Tiger fans 13 of them were arrested in 2005 for vandalism (including taxi cars) from the big victory party.

well thank goodness no one committed vandalism on the Yamanote otherwise someone would have been arrested which they were not. The majority of the Hanshin Tiger fans had their fun because they did not go overboard. Those who did were punished accordingly. I would expect the same with the Halloween Train.

More or less but I've heard from some there was a hiatus period of 2-3 years then it started up again. It's basically 1-2 hours which is 1-2 complete loops then most people go off to various costume parties thru-out Tokyo.
These days it seems to be more of a party appetizer. Most people barely get buzzed by the time it's over.

Well after thinking over my earlier comment, i guess i understand. I love Mikoshi (carrying miniature shrines) and participation of audience makes it more exciting. Nevertheless i still do not think it appropriate to get drunk and party in a public train. I think there is a more clever way to experience such Joy which is to get a road use permit from the authorities and do a Halloween parade or carnival in a well-received fashion.

It's not for me to say as I've only participated. The event goes way back before I ever thought of coming here and will probably continue long after I'm gone. With the increase participation of Japanese, it will probably become steadily more of a Japanese organized event as many gaijins are here for such short time.

Wow! A praising comment! Not used to those lately here! LoL! I first heard about the Train my first year here but it wasn't until 2005 that I rode it after getting the info from a travel site.
What I liked about it was that it was a bit of playful mayhem which was very open to anyone who wanted to join whether in costume or not. Partiers are often very generous with their alcohol and snacks with partiers and commuters alike. Basically its just fun!

yeah, I bumped into her at a Hub in Shibuya just recently (during the Youtube Gathering in fact). She was embarrassed how drunk she was but she said she had a great time - she was actually one of the few real drunks as the party was from 9-10 and most of the people were heading to Roppongi and other Halloween parties later. The Halloween train was just an appetizer for most.

maggotcorps, whatisnames (he's 2 handles here) is probably too stupid that he doesn't know that the Yamanote runs every 3-4 mins so waiting for the next one if it is filled with partiers is hardly an inconvenience. I often let trains go by if they are unnecessarily packed due to delay or events. Often the very next train is hardly crowded (except mornings).
