Yeah, that was somethin' else! I don't think he was ever quite as nuts as he was in that commercial. If you watch them in order, he gets progressively more intense. Video #5 is a little more tame than this one, though. This one is my favorite for sure!

I am the one who had the "good" fortune to edit most of Jim Shapiro's spots from 1995-1996; this series, plus the others with accident animations, american flags, sirens, etc. Hard to believe someone kept them for posterity, I was sure people would demand they be taken off the air and destroyed. Yes, he was one of the first to use sensationalism in promoting his services. Because of him, the laws about advertising attorney services were changed, first in New York state, then elsewhere.

The closest I've seen lately as far as crazy law-related commercials are the ones Vern Fonk makes. They're pretty funny, especially the Napoleon Dynamite ones.

The vast, overwhelming majority of lawyers are good people. "No wonder," perhaps, but non-lawyers should still use their brains once in a while and not make assumptions or sweeping generalizations.
