How come they never play it that way on their album or any songs for that matter. When I played this song the part that Shirley and Laurie sang didn't come till the second verse
I used to run home from School in those long summer days in the early 70s just to catch The Partridge Family!! - I really like these outdoor footage parts, its like we can just step back inside time itself and look on as we reminice ... 'appy~daZe' .. sigh! .. :)
David Cassidy was so cute when he was young how old was he when he starred in the Partridge family TV Show for the episode that this song is from I love his red vest by the way
Ugh! and I'd thought the Carpenters messed up this song! They should've stayed with their own songs, like "It's One of Those Nights", my favorite. It's also obvious that they cannot hide the fact that only Shirley Jones and David Cassidy are singing on this song.
This my all-time favorite version of this song (I was 10 years old when this 45 charted in 1972).
I also heard in between Sedaka's two versions (he did a slow "ballad" version in 1976) and the Partridges', the Happenings ("See You in September" and "I Got Rhythm") had their own version Of "Breaking Up is Hard to Do" in mid-1967; it apparently didn't catch on as that version only peaked at #98.
Still, the Partridges' version of "Breaking Up" ranks *very* high in my book. Thanks for posting it!
I saw Niel Sedaka last night. This is a great song. It's amazing how many versions of this song there are. It really makes a good song great when it's done well. Nice version!
SEDAKA!

The enormously talented Shirley Jones is the dutiful mom who keeps her own voice muted. Two thumbs up for TV (and real) moms.

I wish that Susan Dey would tell her David Cassidy story. Maybe nothing to tell right enough.:)
