  • I'm 16 years old and I can watch this movie every day <3

  • Comment removed

  • Wahh?

    Thats the voice of Ariel\:

  • I'm a 20 yeard old- straight male...and I make a connection with Ariel. I don't know how to feel about this video.

  • @andy8b I'm a 17 year old girl and I only made a connection cause of her hair.... I never read that much into it as a child .-.

  • @andy8b SAME HERE. 22 year old straight male and I find a connection with Ariel. I think it's easy for anyone to relate to her, honestly.

  • That lady played the voice of barbie in toy story 3- hahaha!!!!

  • Thanks Disney for teaching our little girls to grow up to be sluts who fall in love with pedophiles!

  • this is devonna

  • 26 years old and still love that movie

  • how did this woman get a job? :/

  • I like ariel but personally

Belle has always been my fav

  • Ariel is my fav princess!!!:)

  • God I was INSANE after Ariel! lol! She's still the best princess ever!

  • WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY AREEEEEE YYYYYYOUUUUUU TTTALKKKKKKINGGGG LLLIKEEEEE THIIIIIIS.

  • I favorited this because I found the boring voice hilarious hahaha

  • why the took this off 39 mane

  • boring!

  • @xTwilightForeverx762 she's my favorite princess.

  • why am I watching this?? lol i'll go return to listening to slipknot

  • Creepy...

  • i saw this title and was disturbed. i'm so glad it's not about making ariel a lesbian. i would be so mad. this is the worst video ever. after that crap narrator's voice i was sure this was a joke.

  • i hate to think that these movies are considered old. i want my kids to experience them but how will they if these films are buried beneath high school musical crap and the jonas brothers? i hate to think that my baby brother has only seen 1 at the age of 2, when i was that age i'd seen LOADS. these kind of movies shape who we become when we're older

  • The narrator sounds like Daria...

  • she sounds kind of like aunt helda from shanedawson. how she draws some things out but less... helda

  • aaaah back when disney movies were worth a dang its those old disney movies that make me wanna stomp whoever is running it now

  • Seriously.. Why the fuck is this the first suggestion of a Slipknot video? (o_O)

  • @ChainsOfJustice6 because slipknot is better than anything LOLOLOLOLOLO!!!!!11!!!!!!!11!! problem?

  • yeah i never made that kind of "passion" connection. i just loved anything to do with the ocean and magic and mermaids lol

  • @cornstar101 if i may put my 2 cents in i find the conection with little girls comes from her being a rebelious lil rich girl u know the kind spoiled little princess never satisfied with what shes got...BLAH!!

  • Voiceovers; you're doing it wrong.

  • When i waz little i didnt make a connection with her i just wanted to be a mermaid and sing well (i still want her hair :p)

  • @lovecity234 yeah thats bad ass hair i had 2 say so

  • I never made a connection with her. I always thought she was stupid cos she gave up being a mermaid. =P

  • BOOOOOOOOOORINGGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • THATS jodi benson?? holy shit, she almost looks like my 8th grade french teacher :D

  • is poop XD

  • forget passion SHE IS A MERMAID when i was little i was like OMG MAGIC PRINCESS I WANT TO BE A MERMAID passion was the last thing i thought of

  • Well I really don't know whether she makes her way in the world or not, but what I see is a woman giving up everything and I mean everything, even her voice, for a man, now that is quite puzzling...

  • I went from SlipKnot too this .. WTF?!

  • How can a ginger have passion? they have no souls

  • She was my favorite when I was little, I always pretended I was her when in the pool

:-) I think she appeals to girls, because she is not afraid to be bold, and explore, and I think girls envy the creativity behind imagining a world underwater and being able to live there etc., I know I did ;-)

  • Ariel was my favorite princess ever! And she still is!! I love to watch again and again that lovely film from my childhood. But the main reason i liked her... She was a MERMAID!! And I, as a girl, found this idea fantastic, and didnt understand why she wanted to become a human! She was gorgeous, and a mermaid. Love it.

  • Ariel touched my heart for real!!!!!! wen i waz lil but she still there in a big spot!!!!!!!!

  • Although, yeah, we could probably pick something up because we subconciously think about things and we can connect that way. My princess is Cinderella and she has been for YEARS 'cause she was relatable for me but I didn't realize this 'til I grew up now I appreciate her more. So maybe little girls didn't realize it then but we can probably think about it now. Still don't like Ariel much--it's just the hair like I said. Yes, for I am weird. XD

  • LOL 'Cause of her passion? 'Cause of her character? CLEARLY these people forgot Ariel's a friggin' MERMAID. When I was little, I would hear girls my age go on and on about Ariel 'cause she was a mermaid princess and could swim with dolphins and crap not 'cause she was relatable. She was never my favorite--I mainly found her hair gorgeous. C'MON, SHE'S A FRACKIN' MERMAID. And boys like her 'cause... well, LOOK at her. XD

  • @Persona100Duh Obviously a great deal of her allure as a character comes from the fact that she's a mermaid, but there's a difference between allure and relation. What makes her relatable as a character is her passionate curiosity for things that are beyond her world, and her willingness to go after her dreams and follow her heart. A young child sees first the pretty princess, but the older girl reminiscing with her inner child is capable of seeing a little bit more, as with all these movies.

  • @LittleHobbit13 True, true. That's probably why she is special to girls (as they grow older and remember, as you said). Personally, I don't have that connection with Ariel so much (wanting something out of reach, I mean, at least I don't think... Lol) and she's actually my least favorite princess but I can definitely see SOME things, don't count me for a hater yet. -is talking to the world- XD

  • @Persona100Duh Well it's not just about wanting things that seem out of reach, but about being able to make your own way in the world. Part of Ariel's story is finding her own way in the world rather than living by what everyone around her is telling her to do. I think almost every kid can relate to that. The Princesses take a lot of flak for "just being pretty" but actually they resonate with us because of their amazing INNER qualities: Belle's heart, Ariel's curiosity, Cinderella's kindness...

  • @LittleHobbit13 I can relate to Ariel, yes, and "haters" too but some parts of her character bothered me; I think it's 'cause I love the original. Ariel has her good qualities, but I think she has the most flaws, which can be good since no one is perfect. Also, I think you're the first person to mention Cinderella in a list EVER. Normally people forget the "older" princesses for the more "feminist" ones so for that I love you--Cinderella's been my fave for years. Lol

  • I feel like I'm hearing a lecture.

  • I know she does the voice of Ariel, but when she say's "beyond their reach.." around 0:51, I think she sounds soooo much like Ariel. Or is it just me? :P

  • @E5M13R18 wow! well said!

  • Oh the narrator's voice annoys me! And when I first watched it (about two weeks ago, yes I was a Disney deprived little girl) all I thought was: cool land dresses, cool voice, cool hair, cool prince and cool house. I think she's really annoying sometimes, but I feel like yeah, I would cry at those times as well. Oh and sorry, what passion?

  • wow what an adult way to think... little girls love ariel because she's a pretty mermaid

  • @auryngirl

Same here i just like how its under water

  • I couldn't help but fall in love with Ariel either <3

  • When I first heard the story, all I thought was ohh pwetty mermaid<3

  • little mermaid licked my ball sack

  • she's way too skinny.. disney princesses had one major flaw and it was making young girls believe they have to be stick thin to be princesses

  • @hanacurekovic Children are much smarter than people who express this opinion seem to think. The Disney movies are no girl's only source of knowledge; there'll be plenty of people to tell them (actually tell, not imply) differently. Plus, cartoons are not like live action.

  • @Hueglow I don't think it matters whether it's animated or live action. It's the soul of a movie, what it's trying to express, that influences our ability to connect to the story and to the characters.

  • @Hueglow I totally agree. This whole princess thing is ridiculous because it gets girls into thinking that they will be only respected if they have some royal tittle, when the real princesses in the world, expect Princess Diana, don't do much or nothing at all to make this world better.

  • i dont think thats why little girl loved her... when i was a little kid i was obbsessed with it because i wanted to be a mermaid xD

  • why is this the only video i can finde of this song???

  • @nyhuseriksen thats weird...i find it really easy to find, just type in "the little mermaid"and you should get lots of this song...

  • i agree with jodi, but it dosent just stop at girls i always loved this movie, and at the age i related to her so much just wanting to be free, go far beyond the limits and i always will love ariel for life she will always be a part of my world, so haters fall back because disney was so good back when we had good movies good stories unlike this bs we have now

  • @auryngirl dat women is Ariels voice....jzt an fyi!

  • Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

  • I love The Little Mermaid as a teenager. It's not a childhood memory to me, because I probably watch them now more than I did when I was little. I love Ariel because she broke the rules and she went out to live her dream. Besides that, her eyes AMAZE me (: And I'm a musical theatre person so I love her singing. I think that's why I'm so obsessed with Disney. I'm just one of those people (;

  • @khhottie1 me too! i'm obsessed with jodi...and my mom makes fun of me for loving her! i am gonna get some money and buy myself a ticket to her concert! haha

  • @lhoplaura44 Haha ikr (;

  • I like it super much

  • I loved her because A)She was a mermaid princess B) Cause she was interested in weird stuff like me C) She was an awesome singer >_< and D) SHE WAS A MERMAID< COME ON PEOPLE THAT"S FRIGGIN AWESOME :D

  • i love ariel so much bc she's a mermaid and we got to see different scenarios like the awesome castle where she lives. And the other reason i love her is because she was so dull like snow white, she wanted to be part of our world and she went for it! she didn't wait for prince charming, she loved eric and went for him! :) she was my role model, beside my mom of course lol :)

  • The little mermaid is unique in the way she is a mermaid, not a human (well, originally). And she was beautiful and got to live in a palace underwater. The story's feasible to children, and seriously, mermaids are the best, who didn't want to be one when they were little. That's why I loved it. Passion never came into it.

And that narrator sounds so bored. Cheer up, love! It's the little mermaid you get to talk about!

  • Dude, I liked the little mermaid because I would have givn anything to be a mermaid. She was always my favorite princess since I first saw it at age 6 or so because my brother had just begun introducing me to surfing and i became obsessed with the sea. I still am

  • Passion? I'm sorry but no it was totally the mermaid and the palace under the sea thing that got me as I couldn't even spell passion let alone comprehend it at such a young age. Just saying little girls aren't that deep or thoughtful...

  • When i was young, i didn't even consider the fact about having a passion to get something i couldn't have. i liked ariel because she was the one who was truly talented, Sleeping Beauty recieved the gift of singing from one of the 3 fairies n all the other disney princesses just sang because it was a disney thing, but Ariel was born in a musical family and as i recall all her sisters (in the movie) said she was the best singer in the family :) She's also persistent in getting Eric

  • odawpyhvyvng

  • Wow. I've never heard a narrator whith such an uninterested, soulless voice. Do something else, dear, you aren't meant for this. You sound even too bored for the news.

  • @KatKaleen u know i dont think that she isnt meant 4 it what i got from that voice was sum1 who felt that the story was beneath them u know a real snob

  • @KatKaleen I know, right?

  • Okay jodi I like you alot but im a teenager and i still love ariel LOL because She is unique from the princesses not just cause shes a mermaid because she is actually fighting against others more so than others as a girl to love someone she basically cant have. She gives up her voice and still convinces eric they belong. Cinderella has the sad story, mulan the restrait, snow white and sleeping beauty are soem what the same, rapunzal is boring, and others are bland. Ariel is like every girl.

  • I was just jealous that she got to sit on a rock and sing all the time.

  • is the narrator of this thing supposed to bore me to death? is her voice on slomo? WTF!

  • english voice makes me itch...I know this is pase...but SWEDISH is THE best voice!

(Voice actore is from norway and also does that version)

  • Eh...so people love Ariel because she can't appreciate what she has, always wanting more? Noo... Auryngirl nailed it for me: Ariel's a mermaid, that's cool!

  • Ariel is amazing because she is the only lead disney female character that saves her mans life as opposed to being saved by him. The Little Mermaid was one of the first movies I remember watching when I was very little and i continually watched this movie as I grew up. I wanted to be like Ariel too. It wasn't untill I got into my teens that I truly started to understand her character and what she represents. :)

  • @stubsfahey87 You forget that Mulan saved Shang's life.

  • @randomeese that doesnt mean they dont have one. Not that they do, but the point is they could, whether or not they know the word, so its kinda irrelevant.

  • little girls don't even know what passion means...

  • hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

  • little girls like Ariel because she is a MERMAID. end of story

  • i Just wanted 2 be a mermaid

  • as a little girl (10 years ago....im not an adult...i will be 18 in 4 years lol) i wanted to be EXACTLY like ariel...i went around saying i was gonna grow a tail and fall inlove with a human and stuff LMAO

  • i like Ariel becuz her bangs r huge and all the other princesses took like an hour with the prince and got married she knew him for three days

  • @janeeo123 Three days = like three years in disney princess time.

  • I was a little BOY when this movie first came out, and I can tell you that Ariel doesn't just make connections with little girls. My father was very much like King Triton, except very physically abusive as well as mental. I made a connection with Ariel because I too loved to explore, and my father was like her's. Thank you Ariel, Jodi Benson, and Mr. Hans Christian Andersen. :)

  • Well, I'm almost 20 yuears old. So this movie was pretty much brought out when I was about 4. I loved Ariel coz of all of Jodie's reason. I love her still, because i can identify with her more. It's one of those movies you can identify with the main characters at any age, with any kind of emotional depth and knowledge.

  • I liked her for being a blue-eyed redhead, like me.

  • the narrator is satan's slave! BuHoou!

I liked the mermiad wen i was a small child and stupid.

I reached an age where I understand what subliminal texts are I do not mock the little mermaid but seriously what is with those dicks !!!!!

  • I don't think as children we thought of it so in depth. I think we see something in ourself in Ariel subconcsiously. That and she was a mermaid with the best hair and voice of the other princesses lol.

  • The narrator bothers me

  • "she has a passion to experience the realm beyond her." Isn't that most, if NOT ALL, the disney princesses? I mean Jasmine was dissatisfied with a wealthy yet sheltered life... belle was sick of the redundant idylls of her provincial home... mulan, whose incentive was to help her father, actually felt her adventure to be more suitable than the suppressing domestication destined for her at home... can't think of anymore.. but yeah not original of ariel, but i loved her regardless!

  • I just wanted to be a mermaid :D

  • Ariel has always been my favorite ever since I was a little girl :)

  • ariel was my favorite lol but yeah, because she was a mermaid.. lol i remember seriously asking santa for a mermaid costume that would allow me to basically make me into a mermaid when i was five lol

  • I love Ariel so much that I used to wish for a fish tail for every Xmas until I was in grade 6 xD I see that she gave so much for her love&adventures.

  • i like her because I liked her voice

  • i used to love Ariel soo much i looked up to her because of her great and colorful and cause she was the only one without feet in the first one and part of a mermaid will always stay inside her she can never change that

  • Perhaps I thought a bit deeper, too. I liked Ariel because she was a mermaid of course, but also because she was angsty and she wanted to get away and start something with her life and follow her dreams. And she succeeded with the consent of her parents, which is a Disney miracle in itself. xD

I've always been angsty, so I can relate to Ariel's drive to escape, leave the nest, and follow her own path.

Wow. Never thought I'd be analyzing this movie so closely. xD

  • I loved the little mermaid, I think I was about 11 or 12 when I watched the video over and over and over again. I felt so much when watching her on her passionate adventures. Went to disney world a couple years ago and saw Aerial perform, it swept me away as usual, I sang the songs word for word. Love her till this day.

  • Um couldn't they get a narrator with more....feeling? I mean this movie was AWESOME!!! GET EXCITED DAMMIT!!!!! Um, and I'm sorry Jodie, but I was about 5 when I first saw this, and I didn't much care for her "passion"....I just liked the fact that she was a pretty mermaid, who could sing....

  • at 1:00 ariel looks pretty hot

  • i like sleeping beauty better but ariel is my 2 favorite

  • I always loved The Little Mermaid... It was never because of her being a mermaid or whatnot, she just had something about her that created great compassion, and it still does that to me. I always get choked up when I see her cry, watching that wedding-boat sail away with the prince, and she think she has lost him. :,)

  • Omg, daria morgendorffer is the narrator! XD

  • I only liked Ariel because we both have red hair.

  • My favorite movie ever! This reporter here isn't very lively though.

  • I loved this movie when I was a kid because of all the reasons Jodi said (and more) and because she was a mermaid and was absolutely beautiful. So it goes to show that not every girl likes this movie when they're young because of what she looks like. Ariel was my idol when I was a kid because she stood up to her father and I never could. But the story is so magical and adventurous you cant help but get swept up by it all!

  • I HATE MONOTONES!!!!!!

  • DUDE FUCK THE PASSION SHE LIVES IN A HUGE PALACE UNDER THE SEA!

  • this is exactly why i love ariel even now that im ganna be 10 years old on the 29'th of december wich is just a few weeks away!

  • @auryngirl lol. so did i! XD

  • @auryngirl you dont have to think to feel :S

  • @auryngirl I agree lol. She was a mermaid, she was beautiful, she could sing, and she got a handsome prince in the end. That was the extent of my little girl analysis haha.

  • please tell me i wasn't the only one that liked this movie for the movie not because of this connection I had with aerial

  • I liked her because shes pretty, but I DID also like the fact that she wanted to try something new, and not be normal. <3 Ariel forever.....

  • i just liked her caz she was a pretty mermaid.....

  • just little girls? my brother is 23 this is his favorite disney movie!

  • @Galygal77 I'm not gonna deny the validity of what your saying about your brother here, hon, but I just have a theroy that has little to do with Ariel specifically. Not saying anything bad here, just addressing it seriously. AsK your brother what he liked MOST about this movie, Areil's character....or watching Sebastian the Crab. 5 to1, most guys are going to say seeing that little crimson-colored bad boy was what kept your brother amused more.

Why? Because, ANY GUY with sisters can RELATE!

  • @Shenruss Ya you're right he said that Sebastian was his favorite!

  • Hmmm I liked it because of her hair :P

  • When my cousin Zack was 5 he wanted to marry Ariel :)

  • Gah you all miss Jodis point, as well as the point of this film. Whe I was little, I grew up with this movie. Back in the late 80's and early 90's the movie was new and had no label on it. It was gender friendly. Everyone can relate to this movie because of its pure fantasy like imagination. Ariel is this and ariel is that.............BUNK! Its a simple film that is made for your enjoyment. Rela and just enjoy the film as it is. Any film on this earth, I can pick apart because it is made by huma

  • OMG, common people it's just a movie xD.

  • Ok, crazy people searching for a life base in the Little Mermaid:

it's a fairytale people.......IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE IDEALISTIC!!! I think that's why people love it, because it embraces all the enjoyable dreaminess of true love and Fairytale endings - everyone, especially little girls, loves the sheer simplicity of the tale!

  • @auryngirl And THIS is the sense I'm talking about! At least SOMEBODY here can be HONEST! Most little girls don't notice/CARE about Ariel's "passion", so much as: "Oooh, she's pretty and magical and cool, and she gets to marry a prince and she talks to fishes!"

Yes, I'll admit, Ariel is cool as cartoon role models go: she has heart, and spunk, and real warmth. She's ALSO rebellious, headstrong & yet gets EVERYTHING SHE WANTS in the end with NO consequences. The CRAB did all the work, man!

  • Oh yeah! And will he make (for Tangled) another Oscar-worthy Score, just like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame? Who knows ;)

  • Alan Manken is my hero! <33

  • @fsk8rgrl Oh yeah! And will he make (for Tangled) another Oscar-worthy Score, just like The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame? Who knows ;)

  • lol i love how two dumbasses ruin the comment section by having an arguement over the stupidest thing! :D i love assholes!

  • i always like the little mermaid for the lesson i thought it taught when it's the witch's scene and shes convincing her that she doesn't need her voice because she had her looks to get any guy she wanted always residing with me because in the end it's her voice that ultimately get what she wants and shows that you need more than a pretty face to get what you want. you have to show your voice. idk i always looked at it that way ever since i was a kid.

  • I first watched this when i was three. Ariel inspired my personality ever since then and my love for singing and music. haha, such a big inspiration the little mermaid was!

  • Well, I think is for both reasons; yes, his looks had a lot to do with it (can you blame her?), but also what he represented was very very important. She wasn't going to fall in love with one of the ugly sailors, but if Prince Eric had been a triton, she wouldn't have fallen for him either. She could have found good looking tritons everywhere, but she was never interested in them.

  • The crab scares me!

  • LOL pause at 0:52

  • I love this movie i will always love it!

  • What a beautiful and accurate definition of why girls connect to Ariel!!!

  • stop with the ads!

  • @Serdikhan no she didnt she always wanted to live on shore then she sees eric and saves her after he wakes up she overhears him talking to his butler or advisor or whoever about the fact that he loves her and that is the final knot for her going two land. also all languages are unique and beautiful so dont rag on the one which is the most well known. Id bet that if the person who does the Bulgarian voice in english ud rag on it so bak off they are both beautiful voices and its not a competition.

  • is a very good

  • What the hell is she talking about? Connection? Reaching for something? Approachable?

Girls and people like her because she's a bloody mermaid... and pretty. And there's a talking Jamaican crab.... people trying to symbolically blow things up piss me off.

  • I love little mermaid its so cool

  • the narrator sounds like she hates her job. so monotoned lol

  • @z4hr14 right?? lol

  • The voice sounds so..Dull D:

    Of the chick talking.

  • the narrator sound like a flight attendent.
