  • Newt Gingrich has challenged Obama to a Lincoln-Douglas debate.. Something tells me Obama (the abject failure) will hide in the closet.

  • @nobama6 This happens often in politics...Hillary actually laid out the same challenge back in 2008...It usually happens when either A) A candidate is desperate [as was Hillary] or B) A candidate is confident in his debate skills [as is the Newt]...

  • To anyone learning, remember that a criterion has to be a verb. You can't "do" utilitarianism.

  • @hazelioness No one listen to this misinformed sod. What about Consequentalism, then? Dumbass.

  • @midwestmariner That's also something you can't do. The criterion is the concrete way to achieve an abstract value, a sort of road to realization of that value. It has to be a clear action, rather than a valuing of a particular system. Utilitarianism could become "maximizing benefits" and Consequentialism itself is too broad and non-specific, encompassing too much to be of any practical use. Which consequences are you talking about? How will we achieve them? Consequentialism doesn't cut it.

  • It is only fitting that a debate how-to video would have a debate in the comments.

However, if you guys think that you already know how to debate so well, then why are you watching this video?

  • The most important part of the debate is the thumbs up to your opponent before the round. The narrator forgot to mention that.

  • awesome

  • I like Policy Debate more.

  • It is important to point out that a Lincoln-Douglas Debate requires a value and criterion. The value is what specific moral standard/standard that you want to uphold, while the criterion is how you are going to achieve that standard. Simply saying "I affirm this topic" or "I negate this topic" is not considered a value and criterion. After establishing a value and criterion, you then need to somehow tie in all of your arguments to the value and criterion.

  • @SpottedLeopardCat

That's just straight up not true... you do not need a Value or a Criterion in LD. KTHXBYE

  • @5cuzzlebutt ..Yeah, ya do. >.>

  • @TragedyHoax No, you absolutely don't. True, the V VC structure is the traditional LD format, but that doesn't mean LD excludes alternative frameworks that lack Values. Idiot... go back to your missouri local circuit... you joke

  • @5cuzzlebutt Do you really want me to take you seriously when 1. You assume I'm from Missouri and 2. You insult for absolutely no reason whatsoever. Incredible.

  • @5cuzzlebutt

Yes true NFL LD requires a value and value criteria in the speech.
