I used to wonder why on earth would people move to Oklahoma. Then I joined the Navy and saw both the West Coast, the East Coast, and beyond. Didn't take me long to understand why people were moving to Oklahoma and I couldn't wait to get back.
You know I'm pretty sure it was Hoyt Axton who said Oklahoma is the cultural center of the universe. Oh sure, he's from here too, but just the same...
Are there any fun party cities for people in their 20's and 30's in Oklahoma? (Or fun for all ages for all types of people?) And cool little mid-town type restaurants and shops? Nice malls?
Memphis is like that but the crime rate and corruption is high! I'm trying to look for a city just as fun but with less murders and less corrupt cops and politicians.
The crime is not bad, the malls are okay. One is REALLY nice. Police are pretty nice (OKC, that is), food is diversified, and the politicians... jury is still out on that!
@mithistrue I remember Crossroads when it was nice. Sad. But I remember Shepard Mall, and the ice cream place, and the guy playing the organ in the middle of the place. Yeah... I'm that kind of old! We hung out at Shepard Mall when I was a kid!!!
I was born in Holdenville, but lived in Ventura california since i was 7, I spend alot of time in Oklahoma these days on vacation, and will defenatly move there when i retire OR my job goes away.
Hey, I saw your note. Question: I thought Ventura County is supposed to be a wonderful** place to live. Why would you relocate to Oklahoma? **I am being slightly ironic---I know the county well, but I would like your perspective.
PS: I have found Oklahomans to be highly intelligent, friendly, and more courteous than the average Kaulifornian........
Give it a few years. Some of the biggest changes have yet to come. The Core to Shore plan is going to be huge; probably the largest redevelopment project ever conceived in the US. There is a lot planned, but it'll take a few years. I hope you enjoy your trip back.
I spent a little time in Lawton Oklahoma. I loved it, and the people were top notch.

OKC is just like a smaller version of Houston. Anyone who's been to both can see and feel the similarities.
