  • As acidic has pointed out Child protection services will do their utmost to keep children with their families as it has been recognised that this is ultimately the best environment for them to thrive, Obviously something is missing from your story I would suggest either you are making it up to 'have a go' or you did in fact do something, if an allegation is made a social worker is duty bound to investigate, social workers deal with allegations and use the police as and when necessary

  • carlismycoolcat

I hope you still have hope for social workers,

I really don't want to be judged on biased opinions and demeaning generalizations. This is a career I want to get into, I want to put my heart and soul into it. When I work with the elderly in the hospital making sure they get what they need are people going to sum me up as a " Kidnapper" ? I think maybe social work is worse in the us than canada.

  • @dancinginstardust

If you are a liar, theif, and have not heart. Go for it. Social work in the JV system is perfect for you. If you care they will fire you. Plain and simple

  • the new child enslavors of america

  • Very well put Gummy. I couldn't agree with what you more.

  • I believe that open debate and analyzing systemic errors is the way forward to improve social work. This will allow us to break down misconceptions about social work, social workers and service users and improve the profession so that workers can feel proud again and so that service users can receive a good service. At the end of the day SW's work with issues that the rest of society would does not want to know anything about. But the nature of the system quickly burns u out!

  • Yeah Hi I'm the producer of this video and as much as you feel like you need to express your point of view, is it necessary to show you point on my video? I understand that the "comments" are supposed to be toward the video good or bad, not YOU personal viewpoints. Please stop this now.

  • I have and am a part of the system. I have experienced it from both ends; I believe this gives me a good overview of what is really happening in Social Work and I dont think we should duck hard questions or pretend its a bed of roses. People go into social work (a noble profession) because they want to help people change their lives; however you soon learn how challenging and stressful the profession is and how the system needs to be improved both for workers and service users.

  • I'm sorry for having this arguement on your video. I hope it doesn't ruin the project you were doing for class. I hope that what I was saying didn't seem insensitive to your experiences, and if it was than I'm very sorry for that.

  • Look I'm not a social work major or anythin but when i created this video it was to simply to educate society. I was ADOPTED as rudely stated! I would love for those who NEVER BEEN IN THE SYSTEM to not discuss it. YOU KNOW NOTHING about SOCIAL WORK until you had to had be part of the REASON they had a job! NOW if this conversation needs to continue do it else wheres please and not with my video. I want it to be a positive for other professors and teachers to use for other students!

  • Your evidence is either biased or anecdotal at best. I would expect better for someone who wants to be a lawyer.

  • the CPS videos deal only with CPS within the state of Kentucky, which says nothing CPS in other states. The South/Midwest (like Kentucky) have a bad reputation for social services. In a study by the Ever Child Matters Education Fund,"Geography Matters: Child Well-Being in the States", it showed that children in the bottom states (all in the south/midwest) are 6.7 times more likely to die of abuse or neglect than in, say, Vermont do to the fact that CPS is run properly and save lives.

  • CPS is a very small part of social work, and it is not fair to discount all social workers due to your beliefs on CPS. I have been working in social work for 15 yrs now, I have never once worked for CPS or removed a child from a home. Get your facts straight on our profession before you demonize all of us for the actions of a small minority of our profession.

  • exacly, a "small minortiy of YOUR PROFFESSION" that means you are ALL connected in some way or another because you do work for the same people above you,the gov ! So yes, you ALL are demons, DESPITE your good intentions. The road to hell can still be paved with "good intentions" .

  • Ok, so if we're saying that anybody who works for the government is an accomplice to CPS than I guess cops, teachers, even postal workers are in some way connected to CPS in some way since they all work for the government. Their are thousands of social workers all over the country (including myself) who have never worked for CPS, so why are they demons?

  • I would like to also reiterate the point that social work is MUCh, MUCH, MUCH larger tha CPS. I myself am a social worker and have worked in schools running classes for children with social skills deficits, in hospitals helping families navigate the health care system, and am not in private practice providing therapy. I have friends who have worked in the military providing therapy and resources to returning troops from Iraq and helping them get back into civillian life.

  • You have nothing to offer to this debate except bogus evidence and your own opinion. Your career of choice regularly destroys lives at a much greater rate than mine, and facilitates the diseases that eat away the weaker populations in this country. I received my graduate degree from NYU, pulled 80 hour work weeks (just with school alone) of studying, working, interning, and supporting myself all on my own, so don't talk down to me little boy.

  • P.s. Social work has developed a reputation over the years for being an empirically validated practice that helps millions across this country on a daily basis. Social workers in CPS work WITH the police regularly in investigating cases of abuse, so your point about redistributing funding to the police is mute. Social work has always required a college education, so, again, you shotty research and your ignorance are shining through. Your are a moron, I'm sorry, but you are.

  • it's one thing to make a debate or argue but you maknig all these personal attacks on this other person is uncalled for. peopel who start maknig personal attacks just can't think of anything intelligent to say. That proves you do not know what you are talking about.

  • What personal attacks? The "little boy" comment? From where I am standing it is the 2 of you who have been the most combative, condescending, and insulting. All I did was offer a counter-argument to the croundless platitudes that he was shoveling out. Thats not attacking, thats debating.

  • No, you are not smarter then I am. I chose a much more intense cirriculum then you could handle. The people that go into pseudo-sciences do so because they can not grasp another major. Everyone knows that. Your career choice did not even require a degree until recently. You have been taught to argue and ignore logic. You take funding that should be used to increase police departments, as they can do your job much more efficiently.

  • Yes, I am. You criticizes me for ignoring logic, but every point that you have thrown at me has fallen to pieces, because you are a joke. I went into social work because I wanted my life to mean something to others, and to help people (which I do, daily, which is more than I can say for you). Your gonna become another useless lawyer in a broken legal system that exaserbates the problems of the underprivileged in this country, your career will be a joke, just like you.

  • These 2 videos are from a reputable news station. As I've said, once is too often, these are people, when you tear a 2 year old child away from his/her loving parents without due process you destroy him/her as a person. But these children are only capital to you scum; a way to justify your existance. Thank you for proving my point, Mrs Marx, and admitting that you do remove children from good homes. I doubt you are more intelligent then I am. I was an engineer in military and now a law student.

  • Social workers do not remove children from homes unless their is an obvious sign of abuse, or risk of abuse. We don't have the funding, the time, or the staff to take children away from homes without ample evidence to support such an action. I have never removed a child from a home, but I know many people who have, and I have heard 100's of success stories from friends who removed a child from an extremely abusive home (probably saved the childs life) and those children have a ne shot at life.

  • Then tell me why they removed my kids from the home when there was NO obvious signs or proof of abuse and that I can honestly say (God knows Im speaknig the truth) it was jsut a anonoymous caller who had no idea what they were taking about, making such serious untrue allegations on my. Tell me why they stil ltook the kids? I know why. They told me themselves, because when any allegation is made, the child is considered 'at risk". what a waste of time and heartache for those innocent families.

  • From my understanding CPS prefers to keep children with the family if they can due to the potentially traumatizing effect of being removed from a home and also because the system is so understaffed and underfunded they simply can't take the child out of a home for reasons that are not obviously severe. In fact, most of the cases against CPS are because they DIDN'T take a child out of a home and they eventually die from the abuse.

  • And, if this is the best arguement you can come up with, I don't think that I have much to worry about with you ruining my credentials and so on in court. A) I'm smarter than you (I think I've proven that), and B) you do some pretty shotty research. 90% of what you have said has been unsubstantiated opinions and ad hominem attacks on the entire social work profession. If you do go into law, you will make a mockery of your profession.

  • oh, I see you've blocked my replies. Typical.

  • What do you mean? I haven't blocked anything.

  • I acknoledge that the sites I've posted are biased, but there is so much out there on the corrupt system you advocate. The funding of the foster system is flawed, social services receives federal funding for every child who is removed from their parents. Those dollars do trickle down to the agent. Adoption is a multi-billion $ industry. What about people who do not want your "help" or "change"? You don't ignore these people, you impose on them and inconvenience them until they give in.

  • Adoption is a multi-billion dollar industry? Since when, and for who? Certainly not the actual social workers in CPS, I can gaurantee you that. Many of them are barely breaking even on the jobs that they hold and have to hold second job. If your information is biased, than where is the legitimacy of your arguement? If your gonna be in law, you should do your research more throughly and get some sound information before you run your mouth.

  • Search youtube for "cps corruption", watch the 1st video & 2nd. Google the same term. I did not cite any stats, and quite do not find this argument worth looking for any, but they're out there. Read some of the stories, maybe some are false, but if you remove 1 wanted child from a loving home your whole system has failed. As a law student, I look foward to meeting with someone like you in court so I can ruin your credentials and force you into ligitimate employment.

  • First off, if you are honestly getting your arguements from 2 youtube videos, I think this debate needs to stop because you are a joke. And its funny that you state that if so much as 1 child is removed from a home they shouldn't be (it happens, not often but it does happen)that the system is broken. What about the legal system you plan on working in that sends innocent men to prison or to the gas chamber? What about the prison systems that churn out criminals worse than when they came in?

  • Just because it "happens" Doesn't make it right. Children need to be with their parents regardless. And if their parents abuse them (fro real, not some false allegation that is UNproven) the POLICE should deal with it.

  • I never said it was right, but it does happen, just like people fall through the cracks in the criminal justice system. It's a sad fact, but no system is perfect mistakes do happen. And as I have stated before, CPS usually works with the police since child abuse is a criminal matter and the police are usually involved.

  • Ok, how about NOT taking my tax dollars to feed some usless drug addict and attempting to steal children for adoption profits? You want to make a change, change your broken system before you impose your will and pseudo-science beliefs on others. You'll all end up bitter, power hungry and fat while imposing on people who don't want your help. Oh, wait, you're already fat. As far as your degree goes, everyone knows it's about the easiest degree to get. Just blame the white man for everything.

  • I love how you start of your post with "useless drug addicts." Thats very caring and compassionate of you. Also, what adoption "profits" are you referring to? Social workers do not make a profit off of an adoption. Social workers advocate for change every day, its not our fault that society would rather spend their tax dollars on bombing people instead of taking care of its own. The problems of our system comes from poore funding and understaffing which leads to overwhelming caseloads.

  • Well, sorry, I don't find much use in something that absorbs my tax money, raises my health insurance premium, to treat him/her/it self to a revolving door vacation every time life gets a little stressful. Just my opinion. I know they are quite usefull to someone like you, who exploites them for career opportunities. Now, as far as hearing the same argument over and over, why do you think you're hearing this same argument from multiple sources? Perhaps because it is true. I did check my sources.

  • Your description of social work as creating a "revolving door vacation" shows your ignorance about our field and your callous attitude towards the problems of others. For the vast majority of people social workers work with, life is not a picnic, and I wouldn't expect you to understand because the most that your worried about are your taxes going up. Many social workers work with men/women/children whose goal of their day is to survive, but thank you for diminishing for diminishing their plight.

  • Its people like you who say "Fuck the druggies, hobos, welfare mothers, etc.! I don't want my taxes raised" that enable these kinds of social diseases to eat away at the most vulnerable and poorest populations of our country like a cancer. You definitely sound like a product of the "ME" generation.

P.s. post a link for your "sources" because I'm calling your bluff on that bogus statistic.

  • So, you think that the soldier coming back from Iraq with horrors in his head like you can't imagine should be ignored? You think the child that can't feed himself and goes hungry for weeks should ignored? What about a child whose father sexually abuses him/her at night, what do you think should happen to them? These are the people social workers help, and for some we are all that they have, and I am never going to apologize to a thing like you for helping those who need help.

  • if you want to judge social work go look learn your history and educate yourself on the settlement house movement and Jane Adams. It takes a noble person to be in social work and not to mention a 4+ year degree. Also we do much more then CPS thats just one small field. Want to change the world take an interest in the world..o yeah and the people in it!

  • wow! i cant wait to become a social worker

    !!!!!!!

  • Social workers are suppose to be 'agents of change' but in reality they cannot make any decisions or enforce any real change. They simply report on the family's situation and do Initial Assessments and managers and panel members make decisions. But if things go wrong which it often does because of systemic errors in the system the social worker get's it in the neck. Victoria Climbe and most recently Baby P two high profile examples/cases of how social workers are scapegoated and treated.

  • Its always idiots like you who make the same arguement against social workers over and over again without any real knowledge about the field or what we do. Educate yourself before you speak please, because it sounds like you probably got your facts from a Law and Order SVU episode.

  • Social Worker= A tool of govt. or "agency" designed to turn people into the cogs of the wheel we known as the "system". PERIOD!!!!!!!

  • whoa chill out there!

  • Who do you think helped the civil rights movement? Social workers Injustice inequality, and poverty. But you're right the system needs help.
