To play well a music, you dont have to only put your fingers on the keys but to live the music, if you play mario theme, you'll be happy, if you play this one you won't be.
@kreol001 After the first few measures I couldn't listen to this, hit the pause and assumed the strings and bongos and dancing ladies will be jumping in, mea culpa :-) The guy does a hatchet job on one of the greatest pieces of piano music ever written!
This is one very talented individual. Nearly perfect technical execution. This isn't a good piece for interpretation. It was intended to be played in a somber, measured way. I'd love to hear someone techno this piece. Might do it myself.

@WeAreSentineL: Like this tune, its funny I have not listened to it for a while, I play Exodus all the time, its so lovely. The Armed forces are a bunch of braindead, pansies, following the orders of a bunch of jerks.
@maria610421 Braindead? Maybe a small minority of the enlisted people. Officers need some filling in their head to get to where they are. But pansies? They willingly die so you can have the right to say those words. Many people around the world don't have that right. And the bunch of jerks had to fight before they became said jerks.
@WeAreSentineL : Many of these men are coming back from war and they are killing themselves because they can't live with what they are doing. I understand your feeling, you're sensitive to my remarks, but why I said that goes deep, you see I am sensitive too, to massacres I see going on, I object to people being blown up, bombed because some one else want their land. I am sensitive to the death and suffering. Why follow orders like the people in Hitlers time, I am sorry if I offended you.
I can't possibly get over his inappropriate attire on a concert stage - utter disrespect to the people who have bought tickets for the concert. Very idiotic attitude
@concertmaster2 - Maksim's attire is a statement. You do not have to be a uppity high class snob wearing a tux. He is trying to bring the most beautiful pieces of music known to man down to the level of the common man - to the youth of Earth. He is showing by his dress that anyone and everyone can appreciate this music.
It is not a sign of disrespect as much as trying to open up people that would normally ignore the classics. Besides, I think he looks rather sexy (and I am 58 tomorrow)
@concertmaster2 Well, I'll have to agree with you, like.. He could have dressed up properly! But anyway, this play is amazing an this guy is very talented, cause this is a very hard piece..

I don't understand why some of you people think you have to dress a certain way in order to play a piece of classical music. Your snobbery astounds me. If you can't play well it it doesn't matter how you dress. You could be dressed in a tuxedo and lapels and still sound shit.
I've seen people on Venice Beach dressed in rags playing magnificent pieces.

Music is music: it's what we, ourselves, make it out to be; in whatever way we want. You're elitist views are completely out of hand with that of music/art. It is awful to think that people like you exist as fans of this music with the tenacity to speak as you do.
@sublimeloudog86 Well I'd be a hypocrite to disagree with said statement. However, I also feel like putting a egotistical, obnoxious, and downright loath-able eighteen year old boy in his place by showing him how he is wrong; and hopefully picking away at his immature temper simultaneously.
@DrOli I don't have time for this nonsense, personally. now get off my case and go argue with someone else that has the time to waste on a pathetic lowlife like yourself.
Well you keep commenting back, so I think I shall continue, and if I am correct; which I am, it was you that struck at kTpReCoRdS for no reason. Hypocrisy is rife with you.
He's good but it seems to me he breaks the songs into little pieces...take a look at the black and white performance of the song...that one is much more fluent
people need to leave this kid alone,,, at least he is introducing alot of other people to classical music, which is refreshing for his generation...and he's actually a cool looking guy!
man i agree with you! i stood up for him on his revolutionary etude video, and i got a slaggin. however i still stand beside my point. hes a really talented guy! and hes got style=]
This was the just the rehearsal, the free thursday morning show, prior to the show proper. Afterwards he put his suit on and did it all for real, bow tie and all!!
I'd never heard of this guy until about an hour ago looking for Lizst HR 2. I'm sure someone else has compared his general look (and single-namedness) to Liberace.
What he looks like isn't really relevant--I love a performer in something other than black-tie (it makes the stuff at least look more inviting). The question is whether he is good. He does this ok, but it is dramatic enough without all the extra drama he creates with some strange tempo choices.
Dressing formally doesn't neccesarily make you a snob. That's just 1 piece of a puzzle. Now if you dress formally, look down on lower level musicians, and have an arrogant attitude THEN you may be a snob.
It's simply dressing nicely for the sake of looking presentable. who's to say that because any other musician there is a snob simply because they chose to where their best clothing?
But what's more important; the clothes or the music? If he was sitting there in formal attire or butt nekkid, would the music sound any different?? Just saying.
Well it's a holdover from the way classical music used to be presented and performed, for the bourgeois and often at the expense of the regular people.
I think performing in regular attire makes a social statement.
Well, before delving any further into this argument I'm just gonna go ahead and say I disagree with you in that his not wearing formal clothing had no social statement behind it, in my opinion.
I think it would be funny if people started clapping when they realize what he's playing, like people do with rock or jazz concerts. But, they're all applauding a funeral march....
Search the youtube video titled "Frédéric Chopin - Marche Funèbre - Funeral March" and compare the performances and you'll understand what I meant. Maksim's performance (not his body performance but the sound of his performance) is mechanical and soul-less, while Arturo B. Michelangeli's carries the emotions and dramatic power of the composition.
doesn't care about the presentation? he is different not disrespectful. for god sake, dior was his sponsor, the man's got style, and all in all, it's not about the clothes, it's about the music.
His casual dress speaks of disrespect. He slights the audience by seeming to not care about the presentation. And I agree about the lack of dynamics, he could have brought a lot more life and death into the piece through them but he let it turn stagnate.
Yay for grade A pretentious freeze dried bullshit. As far as I can tell, the guy's a good player. Who cares what he wears? Does being ridiculously verbose make you feel intelligent or something? "speaks of disrespect?" Seriously?
@incenderarysaint I think his dress makes the music speak more because it doesn't feel as formal and stilted--it sort of seems more intimate because he's wearing normal "everyday" clothes.
Sor-ry for having an opinion. I happen to love visual beauty almost as much as I love music. And, I give a damn, just to answer your question; that should have been a given, since I DID bother to post it. This is a lovely piece, and I find the somewhat abstract flow he gives it rather refreshing.

I rather like how he is dressed...it cuts the snobs out of the equation for a start and includes the music lovers, not the REAL posers.Whos with me?

I think that's an ignorant remark. how is dressing formally being "Snobbish"?
mahler151 2 years ago
It implies that the fashion outshines the music.
bear75056 2 years ago
It's simply dressing nicely for the sake of looking presentable. who's to say that because any other musician there is a snob simply because they chose to where their best clothing?
mahler151 2 years ago
But what's more important; the clothes or the music? If he was sitting there in formal attire or butt nekkid, would the music sound any different?? Just saying.
bear75056 2 years ago
And I'm just saying, simply because he isn't in hest best clothing how does that make him care for the music anymore than everyone else there?
mahler151 2 years ago
Well it's a holdover from the way classical music used to be presented and performed, for the bourgeois and often at the expense of the regular people.
I think performing in regular attire makes a social statement.
F33bs 2 years ago
How can it make any type of statement if the very people he's performing for are said "bourgeois"?
mahler151 2 years ago
I'm watching it, and I'm not bourgeois.
F33bs 2 years ago
I mean the concert goers, how could he hope to make a statement to them when they were all what the statement was against ?
mahler151 2 years ago
That's the point.
Protesters usually protest, if they're smart, in the vicinity of those or that which they are protesting.
F33bs 2 years ago
Well, before delving any further into this argument I'm just gonna go ahead and say I disagree with you in that his not wearing formal clothing had no social statement behind it, in my opinion.

Once more Maxsim floods the world with intense mediocrity in his playing and a modern dress sense.

Yes I do agree entirely. Maksim's performance certainly doesn't fill me with inspiration either. I was just being a facetious sod.

Interesting look, but I loved the music. Very nice.
juliemr 2 years ago
doesn't care about the presentation? he is different not disrespectful. for god sake, dior was his sponsor, the man's got style, and all in all, it's not about the clothes, it's about the music.
pikolina 2 years ago
His casual dress speaks of disrespect. He slights the audience by seeming to not care about the presentation. And I agree about the lack of dynamics, he could have brought a lot more life and death into the piece through them but he let it turn stagnate.
incenderarysaint 2 years ago
Yay for grade A pretentious freeze dried bullshit. As far as I can tell, the guy's a good player. Who cares what he wears? Does being ridiculously verbose make you feel intelligent or something? "speaks of disrespect?" Seriously?
Freecell82 2 years ago 2
@incenderarysaint I think his dress makes the music speak more because it doesn't feel as formal and stilted--it sort of seems more intimate because he's wearing normal "everyday" clothes.

He could have done much more with the dynamics. This definitely isn't my favorite interpretation of this piece.

Sor-ry for having an opinion. I happen to love visual beauty almost as much as I love music. And, I give a damn, just to answer your question; that should have been a given, since I DID bother to post it. This is a lovely piece, and I find the somewhat abstract flow he gives it rather refreshing.
