yeah it's asphalt. A friend of mine was the trupet section leader in the Michigan marching band and he said their preseason training is pretty harsh. He told me his rookie year he lost between 15 and 20 lbs in two weeks because of the heat and intense training on their "field". I was in Marching Chiefs at FSU and we have an astro turf field which is just as bad if not worse than asphalt for heat.
