  • I love this song soooooo much. This movie isnt one of my top favorites, but i still find myself watching it over and over again. and crying at the end every single time ='(

  • I have never seen or heard of this film. maybe one day i will have a sit down with it. but i am glad that some person left a trail for me too follow, this was waiting for me at the end of the trail...glad i follow it.

  • Thank you, song.

  • I love this song so much.

  • 4:25 Hey this is a Tima in the Window?

    img366.imageshack.us/img366/9533/metropolispictureqp5.jpg

  • Great movie, but too many obvious computer graphics. THE IRON GIANT shows them how its done...

  • @projectmolcos but this is much older tech than modern anime like Gundam and Shoujo anime!

    never mention appearances of characters.

  • @AkiraChii28 Yes, but THE IRON GIANT was made in 1998 and this was made in 2001, and for my money it does a better job in integrating CGI with cel characters. METROPOLIS is still a good film, though.

  • ......Life time is a match, A momentary flash, Yet this forever remains, You are in my heart, Until my heart's not mine. So remember. This never is Good-bye. I recall sweet and enchanted days, Your smile chased the clouds away, All fragments of our memory survive, Shining in the moonless night. Stay close to my soul. Like you're close to my hands. Darling if I fade away, You are in my heart, Until my heart's not mine. But I must go, Before you see me fall....

  • ...So remember, This never is Good-bye. Please remember, There'll never be Good-bye.

  • I GOTTA get myself a high-quality print of that picture at the end.

  • its good to know that tima was rebuilt.

  • @Rahman413 Yeah, cos without that picture at the end to clear things up, this is honestly one of the saddest films Ive ever seen.

Its just good to know that Tima was rebuilt, and that she and Kenichi began living together...schmulz to the max.

  • @femoman However there is some debate to weather he could actually get Tima to function, or if he simply put her back together again and kept her in his shop as a monument to her. I think the latter is more commonly accepted within the people who knew of this ending. Apparently there was ment to be a scene that was left on the cutting room floor and was never seen again, but it alluded to a much better ending that was for some reason dropped.

  • <3 x 1000000000000000000000000000

  • I'll play this in my car...

  • "So very beautiful" well put together like a classic jazz song, I like it ,

Obata Minako does a superb job on that vocal.

  • This song is so beautiful. Sigh.~

  • I saw this playing a couple times on TV, and the first time i checked it out, I thought, nah, it doesn't look good. but then the second time, i decided to watch it. It is now one of my fav anime movies of all time. Poor Kenichi. But based on this, the ending is how i thought it might be, him rebuilding her. :D i was bummed with the english version when she wasn't rebuilt.

  • OMG I looked a this movie on tv I love it one of my top ten anime of all time.

  • After the credits, a picture is shown, showing a shop named "Kenichi and Tima's Robot Company" with Tima visible in a window of the shop, implying that Kenichi managed to rebuild her and they set up the shop together. (look closely on your computer's left and look closely to the window and you can see Tima being rebiult!)

  • one of the best anime movies in this decade.

  • 2 people missed the "Like" button and accidentally hit the "Dislike" button instead.

  • @MusicFire, can you fix the quality of your vid I can't see this scene very clearly and also cause when I saw this scene in Japanese version of Metropolis (which I saw from a web source that talks about Tima being seen in a window and inside of a truck being rebuild and they building a shop called "Kenichi & Tima" which I did notbelieve til I seen it with my own eyes). So can you do it, when you have time and place in doing it? Thanks. 4:22-35

  • i cant seem 2 find the version with the picture in the end...if anybody has it can u plz send it 2 me?

  • @extinct327

    It's here!

    animeprime.c....o........m/reports/metro.shtml

  • YT doesn't allow links, so remove the '.....' bits.

  • @revcom301

    thnx man

  • i felt sad about Tima, but i found out from the picture that appear in the end that she was rebuilt, i think.

  • @AJ627 At the end of the Japanese credits, they showed that image. I don't know why they didn't put it in the English release of the movie. But yes, I do believe they rebuild her.

  • @MariahSilvermane

yep they did! :) i love this movie.

  • is tima really there at the end

  • all soundtracks of this film are beautiful

  • no radio after the credits <: (

  • Best movie ever! Love the song although i cant understand the picture at the end of the credits

  • @RedReality13 it proves that kenichi got tima fixed!:')

  • Wow, this movie, with the soundtrack, broke my heart. Amazing!

  • Thank you for posting this - I have been trying to find the final image of the "Kenichi & Tima Robot Company" for some time now!!

  • The private eye detective looks back on a woman that he once knew that loved, but all he can think of her is her voice. Perfect song for this...

  • Heh, I came to this video wanting to listen to the song, only to read the comments and see that somehow, some people have changed topic to Iron Giant and CGI. :P

  • I truely love this song

  • this movie always reminds me of the good old days of cinema, with it's classical jazz and it's old-fashioned clothing styles, but with a twist of the new imbedded like a gemstone. I watched this at the age of 15 or 16, and I instantly fell in love with the story. I sometimes wonder if the concept was derived from the old 1920's Metropolis, but I may be too rash, were to say such a thing.

  • @Thief8Bit

It wasn't the orginal comic creator of the story Tezuka got the idea to make Metropolis when he saw the movie poster in Japan but he didn't see it at the time he was making the comic book

  • Yea, and in fact, he also never intended to make it into a movie (a fact known only to owners of the DVD). He was too much of a futurist to even think about going back and capitalizing on his earlier short works. Rintaro, who was young at the time that he worked with Tezuka tried to get him to do it, but Tezuka said, simply: "No." Rintaro, after Tezuka's death, felt it was his duty to make it. I guess it was to honor his former boss, but I dunno. I'd probably have done the same.

  • @Thief8Bit That's true i think Rintaro kinda chuckled how at the fact that Tezuka's dead so now he could have made the movie. But i think it was a good choice if this movie was made in the 80's when Tezuka was alive it would never have seen a world wilde release

  • Yea, but I think this was the best way. if it had come out in the eighties, God knows what it might have looked like. I love 80's Anime, and I respect Mr. Tezuka's tenacity, but, if you saw the 80's Astro Boy... you'd see why I say "God Knows" As far as quality, it kind of dropped from it's predecessor, which was in black and white. On an unrelated note: What do you think Tezuka would think of our society these days? What, with all our robots and flashy gadgets. I think he'd die with awe.

  • Metropolis actually evolved. The one during the 1920's (or the 1940s?) resulted from disillusion from the world wars. It was very disturbing.

After that, Osamu Tezuka created a comic with Duke Red and Kenichi and there was this one girl with an evil older sister and...well, the robot went superhero/haywire on a ship and...it was bizarre. Let's just say this evolved into a masterpiece with the addition of Rock and the competition for Duke Red's love, though I know others would beg to differ.

  • Must have been an older work. According to what I read, though, Rock was only adapted for the movie. He isn't really Duke Red's son. If you played "Astro Boy Omega Factor" for Gameboy Advance, you can learn a lot about some of his old characters. Funny story, though: Tezuka's life's work was "The Phoenix Saga," and was started in '54, and the last edition was sometime before his death. A lot of reading.

  • @Thief8Bit Yes, I agree, but they could've done a much better job integrating CGI with cel animation - IRON GIANT, anyone?

  • No. Metropolis was definitely better detailed and synched with CGI. Also, consider when THIS Metropolis was made

  • Sorry, but no. The Iron Giant may have been a piece of CGI, but he blends in perfectly with the rest of the film, whereas the CGI in Metropolis is so obviously CGI that Stevie Wonder could see it, and makes for an uneasy mix with cel characters. Incidentally, IRON GIANT was made in 1999, METROPOLIS in 2001 - your point is?

  • Exactly 2001. It's not like Metropolis was done yesterday. Also, Japanese Animation Studios try their best to perfect this art, so my hat goes off them for trying. Cel on CGI is a difficult process.

  • Quite, but if the Americans can lick the problem of integrating cel and CGI as they did on IRON GIANT, made some years earlier, I find it puzzling that Rintaro couldn't do it here. But why stop at IRON GIANT, AKIRA also licked this problem too - back in 1988!!!

  • Some of the best music of any movie I've ever heard.

  • I'm trying to find the picture at the end because I cannot see it clearly even in full screen. Does anyone know where I can find it? I Googled and Photobucket-ed it already but no cigar...

  • Everyone said shes dead and thats a model at the end. I believe Kenichi did rebuilt her and she is alive...IMO thats what made this ending better for me So far this is on the top of my greatest anime movie :D

  • The best anime film of ALL TIME(in my opinion, anyway),and one of the most beautiful jazz tunes of all time. She sounds just like Billie Holiday, don't ya think?

  • @Gxyz222

I would argue this. I thought it was good, but not Akira level or Miyazaki level stuff.

    Just an opinion though.

  • Akira and the Miyazaki films are splendid in every way, but this one's still my bread and butter. I mean the first time I saw this film, I had that trademark Final Fantasy-esque moment, it totally changed my life! It felt as if you were in another world, but these characters are so real and the themes of the movie are so powerful I...I'm... at a lost of words...I think I'll go watch this movie again!

  • @Gxyz222 That is how these kinds of movies must e apreciated try mononoke hime it's a good one too

  • Dude, I've totally seen that years ago, I love that movie(my favorite part was when the forest and all of the creatures in it start fighting back the humans). It truly is a good one, thanks for bringing back the memories!

  • Such a beautiful song ! ^_^

  • なつかしい、当時映画館で観たなあ

    帰りにサントラ買って帰ったわ

  • Its called 'cant stop loving you' there are quite a few versions out there, not sure if anyone has uploaded the one from Metopolis. But im downloading the soundtrack right now, maybe i'll post it, if nobody else has already.

  • You didn't add that little happy picture in the end... ;(

  • @Number35Mariko Have you seen the picture? I've only seen a thumbnail and wnat to se the bigger pic.

  • I've seen it, but that was a long time ago when I once rented the video. Unfortunatly, I have been searching for it on the internet a lot, but have not found it. I actually have no idea where to find it.

  • I've seen it too. I feel like it was once on the Wikipedia page but I might be remembering it wrong. I wish I had copied it when I did see it though. You'd think that with all the resources available to us on the internet, we'd be able to find it somewhere.

  • This is such a beautiful melody. You can hum it, whistle it, sing it or dance to it.. And there are several ways you can play it...like a slow ballad or an upbeat Dixieland piece. Its a great composition !!

  • I was really young when i watched the movie it was the first one to ever make me cry, this song cheered me up afterwards.

Its such a good song its one of those that makes you feel very calm and peaceful.

  • I play this at midnight when it's raining cats and dogs. I sit on my porch, crank this up to 11, and sip my cup of coffee. For four minutes and forty-three seconds, I don't have a care in the world.

  • That's the way to live life!

  • that is only thing I've read today that makes sense.

  • @Dillrod90

Now thats a way to live. :)

  • @Dillrod90 Well said...

  • there was never a feeling of crying for me, but there was a feeling of proudness and peacefulness

  • That's the seconde time i whatch this film and i can't restrain me to cry.....

  • who doesnt .... but I can take this movie without crying ....

  • They don't have that picture at the end of the credits for the one released with english subtitles, they cut it off :(

  • i love this song u.u

  • who sings this song?

  • Minako Obata I believe

  • Absolutely amazing touching movie with totally breath-taking visually technical style of animation. Wish this ending was present in the English DVD but glad i was able to find it.

    SPLOILER ALERT!

Seems they may have ended together (I also wish that to be true). However at the end you see a radio where she communicates through it, so it grately suggests some part of her was still intact for Kenichi to re-build. I hope so.

    Thanks for the upload. Enjoy!

  • i hope u.u

    i cry with this movie

  • yep .... they rebuild her,

  • This is a Japanes.

ken and tima opened their store at the end. (It's look's like Blade Runner international Cut ending.) Human and robot girl together.

  • sure, just message me your email address i wont spam or ruin your email

  • AWESOME MOVIE...*Cries*

  • y do most anime films end in some massive explosion e.g akira, mononoke, this, laputa

  • a bit simple?

  • explosions are added for greater emotional effects esp. in sci-fis and drama. Also, it's beautiful as heck if it's well done like this one. =)

  • yh tru this film probaly has the best animated explosion ive ever seen in any animated film

  • yh ive always wonderd that myself

  • I think I'm going to cry

  • i love this song.

  • does anyone know what genre of music this is exactly? I'm guessing some sort of like contemporary jazz or something but what is it called in itself?

  • I would think this would come under Jazz.

  • please remember to never say goodbye...

  • I fucking love this song.

  • This movie is one of my favs of all time!

  • I have the CD THANKS TO INVADERJESSICA18 SHE IS MY COUSIN

  • They cut that final picture from the U.S. DVD's. (4:20) Don't know why they did that.

  • what is the final picture a store or something? i see the keniechi and tima but thats it what is it?

  • The final picture is a store called Kenichi & Tima Robot Company. From what I've read, it implies that Kenichi succeeded in rebuilding Tima (not really sure though).

  • wow thx cheddarchet i hope he did rebuild tima it would have been hard though thats a good extentsion to the ending

  • everytime if i listen to this song I starting crying

  • I agree with you. I did the same. Got me into a emotional trance state.

  • they used this same song throughout the entire movie, when i watched th movie, i did not recognize that, until they talked about it on the pocket cd

  • this song is beautiful!

  • But if you want to buy the CD just go to Amazon and write Metropolis: Orginal Soundtrack^_^
