  • As a longterm Japan/Sylvian fan this can only be described as sublime, Gregor

  • exquisite...

  • Superb!!

  • I loved this tune until I heard it live. It's now a million times better.

  • I have just discovered these guys via this post. How amazing I love it.

What sort of "guitar" is that long thing with no base called.

    Thanks for posting

  • @mpdiver100 It's a 'Stick'. The guy playing it is Trey Gun.

  • Michael Brook's playing is just awesome here; it gives this song a new dimension. One can feel the waves he is creating with his infinite guitar flow through this masterpiece. Superb arrangement!

  • @DrittAdrAtta From memory Michael Brooks was the support act for the tour

  • Beato chi era al concerto...

  • awesome!!

  • Man I wish Trey Gun's solo in this was longer

  • ''Gorgeous''

  • I never thought the live version of this could ever match up to the original studio version. But I was wrong. This is sweet. Very nice.

  • One of the best you Tube experiences so far . What a fantastic voice and the band , economic genious , and also the one of a Kind [ Robert Fripp ] guitar sound ! All creating a perfect ocean for David s voice

  • Brilliant!

  • can someone tell me who is playing the Chapman stick?

  • @TheTimananda Trey Gunn!

  • Magnificent.

  • Angels music

  • Grandiose.

  • Fantastic performance.

  • Love it so Much! he is a genious!!!

  • Choice

  • yea pity about the beginning, plus I would have liked to hear a bit more controlled feedback like on the album....

  • @terekki what do you want? the perfect album live??? lol

  • Great song -is everything this good on their release..?

  • Now that's ART !!! and the best use of youtube !!! two of my favorite artists collaborating !!! and what a result !!! Thanks- Grazie- Danke- Spaceba !!! Music for the Soul !!! The images I got in my mind just listening to that .... what can I say but Thanks Dave, Robert and band !!! Kinda makes you forget all the other junk in life, and maybe that's the point !!! How could anyone be an aetheist after listening to that !!! LOL !!!

  • These songs have a unique feeling. It directly hit me deep. Sylvian calm low tone voice really make me dream and inspired me so much. That is poets music ...

    Grandiose !

  • Great..... and excellent quality of the video, too. Thanks for posting.

  • This is soo good. Two Gods together.

  • Oh, yes, do me that!!!

  • Fripp, the unsung God of guitar. I've never understood why he isn't a household name, his designs are present in the music of over a dozen bands.

  • @cpeznola Talking of unsung guitar gods, what about Vini Reilly of Durutti Column non-fame? Compared with Reilly, Fripp is virtually a household name! Hopefully, since John Frusciante of the Red hot chilli peppers proclaimed him the greatest guitarist in the world, (don't know how you go about determining that!) he will receive some belatedly deserved recognition.

  • The most expression of art and genious!

  • Shere beauty !

  • All three productions the Video, the Live and Studio Albums are all incredible.

  • love following his lyrics, like no one else.

    Dreamed a thousand dreams,pure class

  • Too bad Fripp's Les Paul sounds a tad out of tune...

  • Fripp tuned according to the precision laid before him by the musicians around him. The stick is an odd collection of tones Fripps supersonic jet propelled distortion sound requires a specific tuning to have that analog 70's tinge.

  • All time favourite Sylvian solo track. .. fan since 79.... class!!

  • I agree, and yet live it is even more fantastic.

  • fantastic performance.

seen them both in Holland, Carre-theatre. Fabulous

  • One of the reasons Damage is much better than the First day is because of Mastelloto, though he is not my favourite when it comes to Crimson....

  • The two of them do great things. This is definitely one of my favorite tracks from Gone to Earth. Fantastic performance.

  • Best

  • Comment removed

  • it's just more then perfect.

  • Greg Lake?

  • I love that song

  • Ouch Fripp, out of tune much?

  • I wondered about that as well, but apparently it is on purpose, sort of a tempering thing...sort of like baroque tuning

  • really? I've never heard of that before. I personally don't find it very pleasing if you ask me.

  • yeah, i'm only guessing on this song, but fripp is really into alternate tunings and temperings...it adds a certian "tonal astringency" LOL....Fripp has always been "dedicated to the proposition of hazard" or whatever that means LOL

  • none of those guys have written lyrics quite this good or keep your interest during the longer mellow songs.

  • This is the most beautiful live performance of an electric ballad ever dreamed of.

  • they really are simply everything

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • I forgot: the songs from "Gone to earth" are my favourite Sylvian work!

  • Wow - Sylvian does not only play together with Fripp. There´s also Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn - that makes 3 quarters of the last King Crimson line-up. Great song - great musicians!

  • wow

  • God damn, Sylvian did work with just about everyone

  • Um, yes.

  • as good as it gets.. blessed music.

  • Agreed Futurist. Enough said.

  • Agreed Futurist. Enough said.

  • Sylvian in my opinion is a musicians musician. THe man is just as cool as Bowie, Ferry and Palmer. I think you all would agree.

  • This is a god-given collaboration of 2 great artsists. Guitar of RF goes sometimes low-key and sometimes goes strong. It enhances the voice of DS and the depth of lyrics. I wish I were ther.

  • His voice is crystal clear:D

  • timeless , I first saw DS at birmingham alexander theatre in 1986, white shoes and guitar what a dude.

  • so beautiful...

  • Still prefer the Gone to Earth Version.

  • i like more the version on the DAMAGE CD only because of Fripp´s guitar being in tune on that one.

  • Well thats just like, your opinion man

  • Perhaps one of my all time favourite songs. Wonder if something will ever come close to Sylvian/fripp........

  • The bass lines are spectacular! This is a really great take on this tune.

  • He needs to pull up that G string a little bit. It's noticeable. What a pity.

  • Thanks. That song is just priceless!

  • WHAT is that instrument that the guy with the ponytail playing....???

    Is is called a "Koto"...?

  • Its called a Chapman stick

  • The guy in the poytail is Trey Gunn. He plays a Warr Guitar.

  • actually playing a chapman stick here.

  • Went to the Nottingham and Albert Hall gigs of the tour..excellent at both venues. Second row seats at the Albert Hall..fantastic experience.

  • Music from one of the best albums ever made, Gone to Earth! Thanks for posting this video.

  • Sylvian has always sounded every bit as good live as he did/does in the studio. The man is

THE MAN. Question: I had several other collabs

(sneaky thieves, "borrowers" who don't return)

but he did this ambient music w/a czech. genius which I've been unable to recover or

remember. (Actally, several). Can anybody help

w/info. I'm truly freaking. Bad enough they got my ltd. edition leather case, 24kt CD of

THIS TOUR. I CAN'T TAKE ANYMORE LOSS.

    Help?

  • Holger Czukay?

  • yes. thank you for the info.

now to try to replace everything...

i'll never recover the "road to graceland"

    ltd edition

but i can probably get everthing else back.

    again: i thank you.

  • yes this is one of the best live videos, the song the voice the clarity of sound and vision.and was there

  • ...and the clarity of David's Voice ;)

  • David is jus brill, ns 2 c those famous fripperonics... i did listen to that dubble 24/7 when it came out.. maybe the first a little bit more xD

  • One of my all time favourites. This is song is sublime.

  • very nice song

  • Great song...I remember being moved to tears by this song when I first heard it...still gives me chills. Thanks for this.

  • beautiful

  • Very good video, I guess this was mid '90s? I loved this track when it came out but this cut mellows it a bit but very nicely.

  • live version & studio version(GONE TO EARTH)both are good.different atmosphere.

  • Is there trey Gunn too?

  • darshan if available please!!??

  • B R I L L I A N T! - Silvanus

  • Great!! Can someone please post Every color you are?

  • Someone please add "Firepower" video...

  • I just did...:D

  • brilliant, except for dear old uncle bobby f***ing up the intro...

  • lol, true...

  • Heh, pity -but not a end of earth, just gone to ;-)

  • amazing hits the heart

  • every color you are please!! pretty please!

  • darkness falls please!!

  • darkness falls plase!

  • A soul-searching song ! Thank you for this posting. This live version is much more interesting than the studio one. Guitars and frippertronics here are their best with amazing variations on the basic motif by Trey Gunn and Robert Fripp ! Percussions are a bit flat and... underpowered. Mastellotto cannot play the same way as Steve Jansen (Sylvian's brother) does in the original song. Awesome posting ! Thanks a lot !
