Guybrush can swim in MI2 , but in MI1 in part 2 the journey, when Guybrush is on his ship and you tell him to swim to Monkey Island when the island is in sight, he says he can't swim.
between the first game and the second game he grew a beard, aqquired riches and seemed to be living life as the man before relapsing to his regular self in time for the second game. Professional swashbuckling requires swimming lessons
The AdLib/SoundBlaster music you can listen to here is so much better than the crappy music in the "classic version" of MI2:Special Edition. I even like the AL/SB music more than the new arrangements with real instruments, don't know why. In SOMI:SE I liked the new arrangements best.
I don't remember this part either, I think I must have played the game on easy mode. I did read somewhere that Guybrush died after being underwater for ten minutes.
@KatziiYataki I'ts the Monkey Island Madness CD, from LucasArts archive vol. III. By Lite actually being there, do you mean it's hidden in the resource files, but ignored by the game?
@LaukkuTheGreit Ah, I don't know of "Monkey Island Madness", but I know I got the Bounty Pack YEARS ago, which I continued to play on my Windows 98 laptop, which never gave me a difficulty option. When I figured out ScummVM on my Windows 7, I remember starting it up and being greeted with a purple screen giving me the option of both versions! So it may well be hidden in yours but bypassed by the disc running ordinarily.
@LaukkuTheGreit Apologies - I never got a notification in my email!
That's essentially what I'm saying, at least for the Bounty Pack version. If you had that and you run Monkey Island 2 through SCUMMVM, you will be able to access Lite mode. I don't have the Madness CD so wouldn't be sure.
@KatziiYataki Maybe you didn't get a notification because I didn't write a new reply? :-) That 8 months old post of yours was the latest in our discussion.
Anyway, looks like you didn't read my post that well the first time around, and additional clarification is always welcome. Also, I tried playing my Madness version in ScummVM at some point (always used Dosbox), and got to play Lite mode. :-) Yay for removed puzzles and content!
Wait a second... how can Guybrush still talk if he's drowning? O.o

Here's a pointless but fun fact

Did he take swimming lessons in his spare time?

I don't remember this scene. is it an essential part of the game??
benji104 2 years ago
Yes. You need the Monkey Head to buy one of the map pieces.
LaukkuTheGreit 2 years ago
@LaukkuTheGreit you need the head only if on NOT-lite difficulty :)
jeyko666 1 year ago
@jeyko666 I keep forgetting the existence of Lite mode :)
My version of the game, which is on a CD, has the Lite mode removed. I've only heard of it on the Internet, as I've never played it - only Hard mode.
LaukkuTheGreit 1 year ago
@LaukkuTheGreit Is your CD by any chance the one from the Bounty Pack collection? If so, the Lite mode is actually on there.

@LaukkuTheGreit Hahahah, I swear I will never get used to the wonderful world of YouTube comments!
Glad you got to play totally-cut-down mode though; you're now qualified to call yourself a videogame reviewer!

Make sure you played the hard mode otherwise you miss all sorts of scenes like this.

right! When I was a child I played the easy version of this game, because I only had the english version (I'm german). Thanks for pointing this out.
