  • Seriously the last thing I would be thinking about in hat situation is looting.

  • As jderig said.

They aren't alive, and they aren't even "reanimated". Necromorph physiology is that of animate -Death-. Humans assume being dead means being innanimate. Seems that doesn't hold for the entire Universe.

As such, with every attack based on getting something from "life" to "death", the only thing left is making that which is already dead threat-neutral. Meaning...every single Necro torso and limb left behind?

Are all still waiting for a chance to kill again.

  • @HotaruZoku I'm not sure I completely agree with that. They're obviously reanimated creatures, and they're (at least to me) fairly obviously alive as well. I mean you find that shit that grows everywhere, and there are also the Necros that regenerate their limbs. Dead things usually can't grow as far as I'm aware.

It seems to me like you're arguing that the NMs are much like the zombies in Night of the Living Dead (I think that's the one) where "you can't kill what's already dead."

    Cont.

  • @ToxinArrow In Dead Space lore, the limbs -do- keep on after you. Books and movies both reference the eerie situation of watching an arm try desperatly to cut something it can't even sense. For the purposes of the game, though, cutting something off meant it was "functionally" useless, so they didn't bother including continued movement.

It's a matter of semantics, I imagine. Certainly, the bodies are "reanimated" in that they're moving after death, but I meant it wasn't some sort of cont-

  • @HotaruZoku I dunno. I suppose it's semantics, but I still have somewhat of an issue with 'death being their life.' I guess that's my philosophy minor in action. We could go on all day about what constitutes life and death. Your theory is certainly the most interesting I've heard.

Hopefully they give us some definitive answers in DS 3.

  • -Zombie/Voodoo "back" from the dead thing. Zombies are supposed to be Dead Bodies infused with some kind of sick approximation of "life", or manipulated BY the living like puppets. In the Necro case, death is /there/ "life", a distinction that's worth making given the Dead Space universe states several times how humans are the "only life they've ever found in the galaxy", leading me to belive we may eventually learn -Death- is the common state of existance in DS, and LIFE is the "aboration".

  • @HotaruZoku If the above were the case, why would severing limbs do anything? If everything is just animated death, wouldn't the limbs still be able to attack and kill, just like in the Romero movie? They cut the zombie all up, and yet every part of it still moves.

    Interesting response though.

  • I seem to remember somewhere that it is actually impossible to "kill" the necromorph's tissue, as it is all reanimated dead flesh. As such, in the lore of Dead Space the only way to stop a necromorph is to make the body useless by taking off all the limbs. Obviously this isn't always practical in terms of gameplay (especially on easier difficulties), but that's the main justification.

  • @jderig Interesting. I always assumed the main parasite locations were somewhere in the appendages.

  • i think i know why!think about it they only use you if you have your legs and arms so theres no use beyond that so it must put all the brain in the arms and legs

  • It could be that their torso is too strong, it could be that the vital artterys are in the limbs, hell even hearts for all we know lol... Like how cockroaches could survive without their heads, its probably because theres not much vital to survival, so maybe its like cockroaches... Take away the legs, arms, etc., they die. Lol.
