poqfiremedic13-they really dont know anything about us. their degrading comments just prove their lack of knowledge. they aint worth the time it takes to type a response. we know how we are. thats all that matters. see ya round the station buddy!
It looks like you have a fully involved roof/attic upon arrival, and a fire that has not yet vented itself. The roof/attic being fully involved, and only 5 guys there, there is no way you can attack this fire. The fire was already involved enough that when the garage got opened the whole house went. There was probably little chance of saving the house, and to tie up 4 of 5 guys going in would have been a really bad idea too.
Goodness, I remember the day that happened, they roped off the entire damn street. I couldn't leave my culdesac because they could only use a fire hydrant that was like, 150 yards away from the house. Good footage though, I take it you were at the high school when it happened?
Don't apologize! It is great that you got the footage at all, and it really isn't ALL that bad! Good job and I sure hope the family who owned this house are okay now.
Almost every house fire, car fire or any fire for that matter, videos on Youtube people seem to complain about how it was put out. Tell you what, put on a fireman suit, grab a hose and make a video showing us EXACTLY how it is supposed to be done. If you can't, shut up and let the trained professionals handle it without the backseat driving.
@Smirv i agree with you. people just love to spout off at the mouth, but when it comes right down too it, they feel big behind a keyboard and screen but are weak in person.
lots of things y didnt the driver lay out that's piss poor driver skills y wasnt an interior attack made i would love to have a crew of 5 on a fire like that cause i work with 3 and 3 only and we would never have let that happen should have opened the garage door n came through the front door and did an aggresive attack on the fire and pushed it to the garage where it was already burning i would be embarrased if i was a member there after seeing this video
All i'm saying is dont judge a department from 9:12 of a grainy, one camera angle video. Even football has instant replay from several different angles to get the full picture.
Yeah this video is damning due to the fact that people only see the video and not the whole picture, you dont hear the radio traffic, you dont see the WHOLE fireground, you dont know what IC is doing, you cant hear whats going on, and again we had 5 people total initially on scene. Luv2wrkout1 ask your husband how many people his department has initially on scene of a working structure fire I can guarantee its a whole lot more than just 5. that start out small gets outta hand quickly.
No assistance was turned away you are only seeing the first 9 minutes of the fire and as any real fireman will tll you we all lose houses even fires The house did have a good head start on our guys before we got there but you dont see that in the video.
First of all I challenge anybody to fight a fire like this with ONLY 5 (five) of your best firefighters and see if you can do any better. Yes thats all we had on duty that day 5. Yes there were some mistakes that were made but what fire doesnt especially when your so undermanned. Second no the EMS captain's truck is not blocking the hydrant the hydrant was down the road.
One thing you have to realize with this video.... the EMS Supervisor truck is blocking a hydrant, and no one noticed, so they are only using the water off the trucks. And rumor has it, someone cancelled the oncoming assistance.
I can't believe this fire was allowed to escalate to such an intensity that is destroyed the entire house. Where was the prompt response and water? More than 9 minutes pass before action is taken and no one was running, just casually walking around while the house went up in flames.
Unbelievable. If I was the home owner, I'd be furious over the delays.
I was with bsninjagoalie when we watched the fire, and the home owners weren't even home, they were living in Florida and renting the house out. They just bulldozed it after the fire.
WOW! Looks like PFD needs A LOT of training!!! There's no reason why these people should have lost their house! Especially in today's day and time. My husband is a firefighter and even I'm able to see that things didn't go right at all here.
@luv2wrkout1 since you apparently know more about us from a 9 min video than our cheifs do from years of working directly with us, why dont you come down and train us the way you think it should be done??
its seems that poquoson fire dept has the same strategies and tactics as virginia beach fire dept...it looks good on video as a news story but poor examples of firefighting. next time call us for mutual aid, we would have atleast made an interior attack 2 mins into the video =)

I am a firefighter and if I would have done that I would have lost my job. As a firefighter you save houses not burn them down.
