i have what's hopefully a quick question for you. i have waistlength thick hair naturally straight and dark since i am of asian decent. i've never had a professional haircut so i want to be sure they know what they're doing. what would be the best way for it to not poof out since it's so thick? i've cut my hair this short before but it was so thick that i just ended up in a ponytail until it was long enough to weigh itself down again. thank you for any advice for thick hair when going short.
@vinylspun With Asian hair that long whenever you cut shorter it will tend to go bigger and create unnecessary thickness. You would need to find a great hairdresser that can deal with your hair type and after studying your texture, face shape, etc come up with a suitable style! That would possibly mean going shorter than you want it, You may have to have long layers and possibly thin some of your hair out but it's impossible to give 100% accurate advice unless I personally look at your hair!
@Stuartphillipssalon I've got the exact opposite problem. I'm 100% Chinese, yet my hair is flat and thin, and there is not a whole lot of it! My hair just sticks to my head- what is a cut that will give it some body?
@RukiaFujioka As your hair is straight I would try and create as much texture as possible, this can give the illusion of slight movement in your hair and in turn will look little thicker. Every person's hair is so different so I would cater for the individual but as a general rule I would create lots of texture. Depending on your face shape I would possibly create some layers, this can also have a thickening effect. As I haven't seen your hair, these are just guidelines!
@hotmama5717 Hi, rather than brushing the hair Lara gently combs the colour through, this is ok to do. Everyone has slightly different methods of applying but as long as it's done gently that's absolutely fine!
quick question and please please PLEASE reply ...here it goes what did you use to get her bangs the way they are ive tried alot of things but i still cant get that jessie j look !
@breannswag Hi, first make sure your hairdresser straightens your bangs then cuts it dry, as this gives you the perfect line. When you blow-dry yourself place in some strong hold mouse, as this helps straighten it, then either use a small round brush, or if your bangs are too short for the brush then clamp in your fingers and gently pull while moving the hairdryer up and down. Finish with a little hairspray to hold in place!
Dont mean 2 b a drag! But the colour doesn't look jet black. Its blue/black.Infact more blue than black. She would of looked better if she toned down her blonde, blow-waved and done her makeup. Now without makeup she will look sick, black doesn't suit her skin tone. But good techniques and You really know what your doing.Just bad judgement.
@TheSonyaJane Thank you, it’s good to get feedback! We say on the description of the video that this is a Jessie J interpretation, meaning very similar but not an exact copy, so we decided to go for more of a dramatic look, we went for a strong blue/black look.
Always after a few washes though the colour starts to fade down and won’t look quite as powerful against her skin tone. Since her colour change she won a Jessie J competition for BBC1 TV!
Really cool video!! I recently cut my looong hair to a short one like this but the bottom of the hair looks stiff.Without blowdrying, can I make the bottom look more 'curved in'?Layering? :/
@atqzify Thank you, Sometimes if you graduate the very bottom of the hair at a 90 degree angle it can help to slightly bevel your hair in. Depending on how rebellious the hair is you may need to spend 5 or so minutes just blow-drying the ends in, especially if you hair is very straight and stiff at the ends but the graduation will help!
@Elikaka123Without seeing your hair first it's impossible to say. I can help you but your need to send me a short video of your hair and place it on the Jessie J video response (on my channel), get someone to film around your hair. I need to see the front, back and sides. (20 seconds in total is enough) Just mention on the video that you would like your hair cut the same as the Jessie J video, I will then write back to you!
@jadealise123456 It's very difficult to dye your own hair especially once you've dyed it blonde. I would not recommend that you do this yourself, this is a very technical thing to do! You would need to see a professional hairdresser for this!
I love the blue black hair color. I would love to dye mine that color, but I have such thin, fine hair I am afraid my scalp would show through in the front. My hair is a very light ash blonde right now. I noticed u put on a brown color before u did the black, what color brown is that? Ash brown?
@BellaDioraddict If your hair is a natural light blonde you will be able to achieve a blue black colour very easily by simply applying a blue black tint. Your hairdresser will tell you if they think your scalp would show through!
If your hair is artificially lightened, you would need to have a colour corrective taking it to a blue/black. We used 2 browns but this would only be used for our model as she had naturally dark hair, then went blonde, then back dark again. Every case is different!
I'm a fan of Jessie J and after watching this video I can't give enough credit to this amazing team. It's cut a little shorter than Jessie's hair was but I suppose they had to do what suited the models face.
At the beginning when I saw this blonde lady, would have never believed they could pull it off but they did! Great job!!
@percdann This video is an interpretation of Jessie J, we just showed a little cleavage for a few seconds, this was to show the change in her confidence from shy, to very confident!
@NeverCryBaby The length of the bob was an inch bellow her hairline. The shape was cut square with NO layers or graduation. The hair was straightened using a round brush.
i have naturally very dark brown hair , i have been dying my hair crazy colours for years now and i deciced to bleach my fringe and then i hated it so i put light brown in it BIG MISTAKE , my hair was so damage i had to go to a salon and get a very short cut like rhiana but i stll have the sandy blonde colour in my frng . it has been about 3 months now and i really want to get the blond out and get back to my very dark brown and let it fade and not dye it ever again , i need to know what to ask
@TheNewrossgirl This would be classed as a colour correction and would need to be done professionally.
You would first need to apply an undertone pigment, this will go over the top of your sandy blonde fringe (like we did on the Jessie J video) this is usually a red pigment, then for the second colour you would place your desired shade of brown over the top.
After it's corrected, I would recommend using a deep conditioning treatment, use 3 x a week this helps rehydrate & strengthen your hair.
Seen many hair videos very few stand out, although just viewed this Jessie J hair tutorial from the stuart phillips salon, it pretty much blew me away, never thought they could change her from blonde to black and look as good as Jessie J! These guys are seriously good. LOVE IT!!!!!
@yoyosloppyjo12345 This was a colour correction and took about 3 hours. It will always take longer if you're going from a very light colour to very dark, also this type of colour change should only be done professionally at a salon.
does anyone know if a hairdressers would be able to dye my mousy brown hair to a light/ash blonde? I don't care about cost, been saving for a long time, can someone help me.
@UKBrandonable Ash blonde is quite a difficult shade to achieve especially if your hair is naturally warm in tone. It would make it even harder if you already have artificial colour in your hair.
However the lighter your hair is naturally the easier it will be to create your colour.
It is possible to achieve but I would first recommend a face to face consultation accompanied by images of the exact shade you would like, in order to get as close as possible to your desired shade.
@Stuartphillipssalon Thank you so much for the reply has really helped, I just have one more question, Is it techincally achievable to do this in a session, instead of them ruining my hair. Just wondering about the process of how they would achieve the outcome, if you could message me it would be amazingly helpful thank you for the reply.
@UKBrandonable it would really depend if your hair was already artificially coloured. If your hair isn't then yes you could achieve your desired look in one session, otherwise probably 2. An ash toning shampoo would be helpful post colour.
I would also use a cream intensive treatment for up to 2 months after the colour has been applied to help rehydrate your hair, e.g. Kerastase Masquintense, use the treatment twice a week and leave on for 10 minutes. Good luck and let me know how it goes!
@TanyaNat3992 Hi Tanya, after looking at your face shape I would cut around 3-4'' as this would give your hair lift rather than it just hanging down. I suggest long chopped into layers, this will give your hair a lot more texture and movement. For the colour there are so many possibilities, one idea could be to create a bohemian colour meaning lighter on the ends and a deeper and richer colour on the roots. Possibly dark red at the roots going lighter to the ends, as a block colour or highlights
Surfing on youtube and stumbled across this new video, decided to watch even though I'm not into hairdressing video's (It's probably a Jessie J thing) but peeps this video's alright, watched it twice, seriously not even sure why!
