  • Has anyone applied/used a gray card for underwater photography? I am interested in learning this area of photography but the loss of the different color spectrums as you go deeper is tricky. Will using a gray card with light strobes work for both far and distant subjects? If so, any advice on how to best use them? I know they make some gray cards out of material that can be taken in the water but have not seen any training material on such a subject.

    Thanks in advance,

    The Meltdownman

  • @meltdownman1 hey PADI makes a white balance card with the grey on the back. I do a lot of video in the 100 to 200 ft depth range. When I get to the depth I set a custom white balance. also, when we're doing wreck penetration I re-white balance in every room. it's a bit of a pain, but it's the best way to get the best shots. either way the card is very helpful for underwater photos and videos

  • Guuuuuuy yor using two stands and two flipping clamps to hold the grey card.... :o like duuuude yor sooooo fancy ... I am soooooo shocked , like u actually set that place yor card and do yor white or maybe u don't even set it up maybe those are just dedicated to hold yor grey card .... :0 right u rather spend yor time shooting

Ne who informative post... I was wondering how to set the wb for movie mode is it the same...!?

  • @bt465 I justset the white balance for movie mode and it's exactly the same as he has it in the tutorial, dunno if this helps as your comment was made a week ago.

  • If you remotely consider yourself more than a point and shoot idiot, you should always shoot in RAW.

  • Raw is good but uses alot of card space.

  • @boyman369 memory is cheap, dipshit

  • where can I get a 8% gray card?

  • @dantheman1507 any piece of typing paper will do.

  • Thanks For The Great Video

  • don`t waste your time. use RAW

  • @filjka did you listen all the way to the end?

  • thanks! I have an assignment and your description helped me immensely

  • i think in most situation auto white balance should work, but in tricky situation it is handy to know how to set custom settings... thought shooting in raw is also good so you can always change it to some degree on post processing.

  • I use the 1DsM2, and I haven't checked the white balance yet.

The shots seem to look Ok.

But I have to admit, your right about sitting time behind the screen is a pain.

If auto white balance is a choice, is this a poor choice?
