This was supposed to be the 3rd single from "Spitfire" but RCA nixed that idea before it came to pass. "St. Charles" didn't do so hot (what a shame for a good song from the album) & RCA didn't think "Cruisin'" was gonna do any better.
Yes for music it was the best but remember we also had the Viet Nam War, Civil Rights, Race Riots,The JFK Assasination, Political Corruption. Campus Shootoings. The good and the bad . Love- Ins, Smoke- Ins, Drugs, Sex and Revolution.
The 70's when driving around or crusin was a way of life. Who knew it was the end of an era. Heard it on "The Drive" in Chicago on Lake Shore Drive for the first time since the song was always on the radio. Gas was still cheap and there was still light in the world.
@1971SuperLead you had a 57 chevy that was still running in 1976. come on, check that. let's just say this song is Marty Balin out front doing it good.
Always makes me think of King's "Christine" as that self-repaired Plymouth Fury fires up its own engine heading out of Will Darnell's garage for a little hit and kill.
This is one of Marty Balins best vocals...he gets glory for " Miracles" and "With your Love" but this track is all personality....I remember the first time I heard it....and it still sounds fresh.
I always liked this song...Love the drum fill towards the end...one of my favorites....right after you hear "gettin high"...a very cool ride cymbal bell and snare/kick fill

Never understood why the songs on this album never go much air play other than they were all very long for the radio. It was a great album.
