  • hmmmmm....Scotty played more chords and notes in one minute than I played all last nite at the gig.....

  • Much more exciting guitar player than Mike Stern - almost on the same style instrument. hehe

  • Nice!! whatta groove!!!!!

  • Scotty-Mad Fingers! true master!!!

  • wayyyyyyyyy on top... I love him..but eshhhhhhhh

  • One of God's greatest gifts to music. Stunning, on all levels.

  • @HiimJerry8..." Tommy" would be Australia's acoustic genius Tommy Emmanuel....I hate to compare these guys since they are both unique and wonderful players....I see you listen to a lot of metal....and there is a place for this as well....I just like listening to clean accurate players without the help of electronics....Some people stand out in each genre. Happy Rockin' New Year....to all

  • the most amazin thing is that this guy is not thinkin licks, hes not thinkin what licks and phrases to use, hes just singin stuff in his head and playin them on the guitar, he knows the instrument so well thats all hes gotta do, and he manages to pull sick amazing shit like this easily!

  • This is a wonderful cd if you like guitar....jazz.....and tapping your feet....i have no idea how many hours i would have to practice to be able to even attempt these licks...Order the dvd through scotty's web site....you won't be sorry.

  • Scotty is smokin'!!! What chops and taste! I aspire to play this great.

  • FANTASTIC !5****STARS

  • Awesome!!

    Phil

  • If Scotty , Birelli and Tommy got on the same stage.....well we can dream can't we?

  • @6468792 excuse me for the ignorance but tommy....?

  • @6468792 it would not be the best setting for tommy. Scotty and Birelli on a whole other planet when it comes to improvisation and harmony. Prefer hearing tommy in a solo setting.

  • Glad you can google a band on youtube before you go see them...better than reading a critic's review !

  • Not enough black dudes in this group for it to be real jazz.

  • I learned to play like this in only 6 days with Rosetta Stone: Guitar Edition.

Just kidding. I wish. How does one practice for that kinda playing anyway?

  • I'm discovering him... And I'm lovin' it!

  • wow

  • Scotty is amazing & top notch !!!!!

But ..., you see that guy on the right ?

    That's Dwight May.

Dwight is one of those hidden treasure guitar masters.

  • Nice.

  • Scotty A ! VERY GOOD !! *****STARS !

  • Yonrico keeps popping up everywhere!

  • I thought Derek Trucks kept him busy. He's like the session drummer for everyone =D

  • VERY nice!

  • Great playing, TERRIBLE VIDEO EDITING!

Why are we shown the piano player

    comping chords, and a smiling

    drummer keeping strait time? When

    Scotty is the show?

  • Maybe the master is protecting his secrets?

  • He was afraid Punky Meadows would rip his act off *lol (waiting to see how many people get that joke).

  • What does Punky Brewster have to do with ANY of this!? Arghhhhhh!!!

  • Well, it's cuz he's a little fond of chiffon in a wrist array!

  • Scotty caused my Gitane John Jorgenson model to become jealous after I began an affair with a Tele which I modified with a mini humbucker what an inspiration

  • lol nice! my masterbuilt is jealous of me and my blueridge :P

  • Musical Orgasm

  • cant get enough of scotty playing this stuff. it has renewed my spirt for playing guitar. you know how you can get bored at times. well he woke me up. thanks scotty. i love playing along with you on you tube. even though you kick my ass. love it.great energy and flow.

  • sweet

  • great job Scotty

  • I've got the new DVD. It is excellent. There's only about three of the songs from it on You Tube , so it is mostly different material. Any fan of Scotty's will be pleased with it. Now I am waiting for an audio CD. Just can't get enough. lol

  • I didnt write that message, it was my stupid friend playing a joke on me!

    HAHAHA it sounds bad!

PD: the audio preview is great!

  • OK guys, I finished the live dvd yesterday (8/30/08). It should be available in 2-3 weeks. You can reserve one now by going to his website and clicking info. ALL the proceeds go to Scotty.

    Nate

  • I just ordered my dvd...great expectations...I envy you the chance to work on such a great project...thanks from others who believe in this guy's talent.

  • Got it Doc...these utoob clips don't compare to the sound of the dvd obviously...great work!! very enjoyable. This goes up on the shelf with Lenny Breau, Oscar Peterson and Joe Pass,Wes Montgomery and other favorites. Any plans to do a jazzfest or 2? Keep us posted...

  • Hear they are working on a cover for the new CD/DVD, so maybe they are close to having a finished project afterall. Let's hope.

  • You may just have to go to his web site and buy one of his older CDs. Which are great. It seems "they" think they know more about what his fans would like to hear and buy than we do. Instead of giving us the chance to have a copy of this project in it's original form, "they" keep changing it. I have given up on ever being able to enjoy it except on You Tube. So much genius and hard work down the tube. (No pun intended.) Maybe that is why great artists like Scotty give up on the business.

  • It would be cool if Scotty had a standing engagement at a nice club in Cincy with a kick ass band like Mike Stern,Les Paul,Jim

Campilongo have in New York, with the exposure

he is getting on You Tube it seems like he could draw good crowds if people knew where to find him which is a little hard to do right now. and I bet some great players would show up to sit in

  • Hey scotty anderson i know you from Mr Clayton Smith and his daughter Natalie is my best friend and she told me bout u and i think u are fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    from hannah

  • I love this song it is my fave too!!! I wish i could see himm again! I love this MAN!!!

  • I haven't posted in a while but that's not to say I listen to his music over and over. This genius, and from what his friends have posted a humble and caring friend, is just so talented and creative. I also agree with others that his creativity and skill level is akin to Lagrene and also Joscho Stephan, Stochelo Rosenberg, Dorado, and many others including the one and only Django. Keep um coming NateS911.

  • Ive been a player for 35 years, not as good as Scotty, but still pretty good.

It worries me all this speeeeed/technique talk etc etc..

    Didn't Wes teach us ANYTHING?

    It's not a competition!

  • it seems to me that if you flub every other note then speed becomes an issue...if you play cleanly, then play as fast as you want ...as fast as you hear the music...SA plays cleanly at this speed...few can

  • Also Clayton or anyone else on here who is a friend of Scottys I have some good Video from

Lattitudes of Scotty just smoking on Sweet Sue

and playing some killer classic country tunes with my brother. If he wants copies I would be happy to forward them to him after I learn how to burn a DVD.I would never post them on here without permission

  • I have went back and watched a lot of music since I have discovered the clips of Scotty

the only player to me who has improvising skills on this level is Bireli Lagrene. There

are some monster players out there but guys like this are a little further up the food chain, at least in my opinion. If Im wrong Im sure someone will let me know

  • On Birelli Lagrene: great player , but i am fatigued after listening to a full cd...in other words i would not repeat it ...with Scotty I believe I would hit the repeat button...(if i could get my hands on the new cd that is)

  • I can appreciate that but my comment was based more on the comparative improvisational

skills being on a higher level.I can also listen to Chuck Berry for hours and he aint really all that good

  • Birelli Lagrene's group cd "Move" is the last one i listened to....with sax (alto, soprano, baritone)...no keyboards...mostly standards...as one woulld expect from gypsy style group....There are a couple of gems, but i won't put the cd in my favorites stack...i would rather listen to Tommy E (solo) or Scotty with more traditional jazz group.

  • I know of only two guitarists, one of which I studied and played with that are the same caliber as Scotty. What makes scotty such a great player is his total control of sound, his ability to arrange on the measure, his theme, variation and development on that theme. God bless you Ralph Russo, Bill DeArango. Go Cleveland Jazz!

  • Branchedantler, I was there too. I don't know if I've ever heard Scotty play better than he did that night. It was thrilling. Hope you get to come back soon. The young man from the audience who did Johnny Cash songs was also awesome.

  • That was my brother Bruce he plays classic country around Dayton

  • I saw Scotty at Lattitudes in Cincy on 2-29-08

and it was awesome,A great player and a supernice guy as were The Stray Dogs Band he was playing with it was humbling.Ive sat 2 feet from Bireli,John Jorgenson,Les Paul,Frank Vignola,Angelo Debarre and he is on the same level

  • Scotty rocks, going to see him this weekend, he is as much fun to watch as hear.

  • I taught guitar at a small store in Lebanan Ohio for awhile, Scotty was friends with the owner and did a few shows at the store. WOW!! Scotty is hands down the most impressive guitarist that I have ever watched. You'll keep looking for the harmonizer pedal that he is using only to realize that he isn't using one at all! If anyone knows how to contact him, please send me a message, I am very interested in taking some lessons with Scotty.

  • Scotty such a fine player no matter what bag you think he's in. I wish the camera was on him all the time. He was playing some great stuff and the camera was panning the drummer and the pianist comping--sort of maddening. Mainly because I want to "steal" all I can from him.

  • seemingly effortless...master chops....true command of his instrument....this is any guitar players goal.

  • That's the great thing about Scotty, he can play it all. Someone said of him once, "It goes in his ears and comes out his fingers." So true. He doesn't just play it, he also knows all about what he is playing. Plus he is a walking encyclopedia of musical history. Can tell you who recorded the most obscure songs. See why I call nyself "Fan of Scotty"? LOL

  • not into jazz but these guys are true musicians. brilliant.

  • Always looking for new to me, great guitar impressionists...and Mr Anderson I have enjoyed the last hour listening to your u tube videos ....love the Lenny impressions and Joe pass and You are very powerfull player and hope to see you soon ...God bless Scotty Anderson from Calgary Canada

    Dave Webster

  • dwebster50 great comments; I saw Scotty the last 2 years in Cinnatti Ohio and he's a great player and a great guy. You have to travel to the states and go to Ohio in the summer and see Scotty Anderson play; it's hard to explain what it's like live. I was in shocl. The same thing if I would have seen Lenny Breau, and Danny Gatton. mastercollector

  • I love Scotty of course. His knowledge of inversions is amazing, and his trick bag is huge, but, he doesnt have the deep, hard swingin' groove of a true jazzer. He still sounds like a country guy trying to play jazz. At least in my ears. But i love him.

  • Coming from you, Todd, that is an increcredible compliment. Scotty will be honored that you even know his name. Thanks for taking time to comment.

    Nate

  • By the way, do you feel the same way about the "Summertime" clip? Thanks again.

    Nate

  • I LOVE watching Scotty play anything. He's a true virtuoso, if there ever was one. I only wish he would lay back in the groove a bit when playing swing. He's very "on top" of the rhythm. Still, he's fantastic. One of my favorite players of all time. Thanks for posting this! :-) GW

  • @Guitarwizard Your comment is the single biggest epidemic in music. The classification of its existence. "He sounds too country, he sounds too rock, he sounds too...what have you". Music is so much bigger than that kind of bull shit. If it sounds good, it's good. I don't know who you are but apparently someone else here does which means nothing to me but I can tell you that no one here knows me and it's very probable that I'm the most famous musician that has frequented this video. Good day.

  • @Guitarwizard Like the comment below me, I think you are being a bit "purist". He doesn't sound like he is "trying" to play jazz. He sounds like a country guy *playing* jazz. And, to me at least, that makes him much more interesting to listen to than a "true jazzer" playing jazz... which I rarely find exciting or surprising anymore.

  • SCOTTY ANDERSON!!!!Come to europe to see you!!!

  • god, so many videos on youtube just cut off when finished, very rudely - thank you for the fade out at the end! :)))

  • Lenny Breau lift at 2:35. hehe. Here I thought my hearing was getting worse in my old age...

  • Will someone please post more SCOTTY ANDERSON VIDEOS? lb

  • I'm working on it. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll have something new to post. We also just finished mastering his new studio cd so that should be available very soon as well.

  • To NateS911: Thank you in advance for attention to this matter. I will dance at your next wedding!!! lb

  • Scotty is amazing! A firend of mine is playing bass on this gig, Marshall Coats, who is one of the best young talents in Atl.

  • Yorico Holding it down on the drums

  • Scotty is a good friend of mine....says he asked for more than the gig was worth so he wouldn't have to go (hates to travel). The promoter amazed him by agreeing to the amount. LOL...Man would be all over the place if he didn't love this town so much!

  • never heard of this guy, but he's awesome! Does he have any CDs out?

  • Yes, he has two cd's with J Curve records.

  • Thanks VIP....I'm a jazz guitarist & love his work.

  • I've heard about this...he just doesn't like to travel, does he?

Why travel when you can play guitar?

I think maybe a live worldwide webcast pay for view would be a great idea, then...?

  • Good idea, Gatton and Lenny Breau played together; wish Danny, Scotty, and Lenny Breau could have all jammed in their primes. To me that is the ultimate jam, those 3. Master Collector

  • well today's ultimate jam would have to be : Bireli Lagrene, Scotty, Dimeola, Joscho....imho of course.

  • Clayton Smith forked out the dough to put this gig together. I was there. Clayton's brother Bill invited me . While Scotty is awesome, the man playing rhythm guitar (Dwight May) is every bit as good...maybe even better. This show was arranged to get Anderson some recognition, so he was the showcased player. May took a few solos however, and impressed me to a greater extent .

  • squabs217 go back to drinking your moonshine if you think Dwight may is as good as Scotty Anderson!!! The only players as good have passed away you dumb ass like Lenny Breau, Wes Montgomery, and the most thrilling and spectacular player ever: Mr.Improvisation Danny Gatton... mastercollector

  • I do enjoy a quality beer now and then. Moonshine seems to appeal to cyber tough guys such as yourself (Along with Camaros, cheap cigarettes, and DVD collections of Dog the Bounty Hunter). I strongly doubt you've ever heard Dwight May play. He can play any style proficiently. Scotty Anderson IS great, but over-plays to a degree, and becomes repetitive. Reserve further insults for those who don't know what they're talking about...like, like, yourself.

  • squabs217 Although true Scotty over plays, have you ever seen the 85 Yamaha clinc; they show clips on youtube sitting on a chair, he looks younger; check out the technique. How does Dwight May stack up against Lenny Breau, Danny Gatton, Wes Montgomery, Hank Garland, Johny Smith, Jimmy Bryant, Django Reinhardt, Tal Farowe., Joe Pass?

  • I wouldn't go as far as to say Dwight May ranks up there with the greats that you compare Scotty Anderson to, but saying that he is as good as those legends is a matter of opinion.

  • Oops well I stand corrected, he does have a new site, cool too but when you click his tour dates it goes back to the nasty old site.

  • Scottys awesome, very nice guy, I get to catch him locally here in Cincinnasti, I used to love to go to Coco's late when there are about 5 beers on the stage in front of him and sit as close as I can and watch his left hand, as much fun to watch him as hear. I wish someone would fix his website for him, it's terrible, looks like it's from the 80's.

  • Only one problem with this video. It's way too short. I could listen forever. Scotty Anderson is my new favorite "jazz" guitar player. The man can do it all. My trip to Mecca is to see him play live.

  • You don't have to go that far, just come to Cincinnati. Worth the trip.

  • The pianist was my piano instructor at Georgia Southern University for one year. It was a very inspirational experience and I've never been effected by someone's playing ability quite like his.

  • i didnot know a tele could sounds so sweet

  • Ever listen to Ed Bickert? He plays an old Tele, & has the coolest sound you ever heard. Course he's Canadian, so you probably never heard of him.

  • thanks for the info about the Macon gig, you are correct I would have really enjoyed being there. Hopefully there are more "vids" to post with this group. I can tell they really enjoyed playing with Scotty. The drummer is really into it, as are the others. Glad you make it happen for them. The version is terrific.

  • It was my pleasure!

  • NateS911 thanks so much for posting yet another great video. What a treat! It is so rare to find such improvisation, range, and innovation from an individual and to think they only rehearsed for a couple of hours speaks volume for and about the man. It is obvious the other talented members of the group recognize the genius of the man.

  • I wish you could've been there. Scotty is so humble. When I contacted the the other players to determine if they were interested in the gig, none of them had ever heard of him. They didn't know what to expect. They were all taken by Scotty's talent and warm personality. Now they want to do it again.

  • I like that tele tone...

  • Why not me?
