look at the bruins last few years... 4 yrs ago miss playoffs, 3 years ago are the 8 seed and take 1 seed montreal to 7 games.. 2 years ago make #1 seed sweep montreal and lose in 2nd round 7games to carolina. 1 year ago w/ injuries make the 2nd round are up 3-0 on the flyers and have en epic collapse (but without krecji, sturm, thomas,sidenberg +savard coming back 2 quick) this year they add horton, seguin, kaberle, cambell, marchand and get healthy and are in the conf finals currently tied 2-2
I like Brian Burke. He's a straight shooter. I think a lot of team presidents, gm's bullshit the media a lot. Saying that this team is set to win now etc....Burke is being honest. He knows the Maple leafs are not contenders right now. Have to take baby steps. Im a Pens fan and I got to witness their turn around. First I would root for playoffs, then win 1st round, and eventually cup. And yes they lucked out with Sidney Crosby, but it still wasnt an instant turn around.

In only 1 1/2 years BB's built a quality defence, acquired two solid goalies (the Monster took time to adjust to the NHL but near the end of the season he was superb, winning 7 in a row), and the offence features 8 players capable of scoring 20 or more goals, with one of those 8 capable of scoring 30 plus and in my opinion even 40 plus. He also got rid of a lot of garbage (Toskala, Stajan, Mayers and Blake to name a few). You can be sure Burkie is not through yet! I'm excited about this season.
Phil Kessel is a great player. Draft picks would be nice also but right now they have enough prospects like Bozak, Hanson, Gustavsson, Stalberg. Leafs had some bad luck with first round draft picks in the past. Alex Steen and Jiri Tlusty were first rounders that never developed.
i'm not saying scoring 36 goals at 21 is nothing. we gave upt 2 firsts and a second.
it is highly possible we are going to be 1st or 2nd in the draft. and that means it could be a crosby, taveras or stamkos. Stamkos got 51 goals at 19? not even to mention the likes of patrick kane, toews.
kessel is good for just scoring, he is one dimensional.
Burke! Toronto Fans isn't concerned about the 1 player that Boston will get that will play for many years. We are concerned with the THREE! players boston will get that will play for a very long team. and that may or may not make kessel worth it.
