@Zaros69 In all fairness, Hellsing probably contains more legitimately portrayed romance than Twilight, and it's a manga that places literally no emphasis on romance whatsoever. Twilight is basically a stalker and some kind of deluded lunatic who is incapable of acting or thinking for herself entering into possibly the most romanticized example of an abusive relationship in recent literature.

But this song makes me cry wherever and whenever i hear it. It's just the most beautiful piece ever written. Bangel is just a couple whe'll never have again, sad and nice at the same time.
I honestly believe that Spike loved Buffy more than Angel and Riley combined. I'm not saying this to knock Angel, who I also adored (I strongly disliked Riley, though!), but Spike would've done ANYTHING for Buffy. Ultimately, he sacrificed his life for her and the good of the world. His love for her made him a better man.

@ewiezz I know! I meant to put that in, too about his loving her even without his soul. :) That's what cemented it for me. Angel loved Buffy, but soul less Angelus certainly didn't. He spent practically half of season 2 torturing her friends and tried to kill her before raising Acathla. Once in love with her, Spike on the other hand, did everything in his power to protect her and Dawn and fought along side them. Though they had their MAJOR ups and downs, Spike was always there for her,
@ameliedaae Ok, In Angel's defence, he was a vamp who was a hundred years older than Spike and committed much more horrific crimes during his tenure as Angelus.He is the most horrific of the lot & his soul was given to him not to make him humane, but to suffer for eternity plus with a curse. He didnt earn it. It took him about 100 years to just come to terms with it and come out of the shell, while Spike did it in about 2 weeks under a basement.But I do agree with you..(Check the next comment)

@buffyfredfan9191 Where to begin? Angelus didn't have a chip forcing him to work with anyone, but he did have a soul forced onto him. Even with the "soul" that Buffy and Co. glorify so much, it took both Angel and Spike a LONG time to come around to actually doing anything generous out of their own free will.
@buffyfredfan9191 Cont'd: As for the chip argument, Spike didn't need Buffy and Co. once the initiative was gone. He's repeatedly shown that he can get blood through other means. Once the Initiative stopped hunting him, he had nothing tying him to Sunnydale except for Buffy and the others. Heck, if anything, he limited his options for seeking someone to remove the chip by deciding to stick around.
The chip really stopped being an excuse to stay pretty early on.
@ameliedaae Actually, I'm firmly convinced that Angelus DID love Buffy. Angel, Angelus, Souled Spike (Let's call him William, for sake of convenience), and Soulless Spike all loved her. The difference is in how that love was displayed. Angel and William were both far more vulnerable and affectionate. Spike was affectionate, but there's a clearly visible difference in how aggressive and dark his affection can get. Angelus is basically Spike's dark bits pushed to an extreme.
@VenathTehN3RD Cont'd: Angelus' cruelty towards people seems to increase with how much he cared about them. He was always violent with Darla, Dru, and Spike, his "family." He's noted as having been especially horrible in his murder of his pre-vampire family. He ignores people like Oz or Jenny (Her murder was mostly to hurt Giles and Buffy), but tortures Giles and Willow (sort of friends), and is simply brutal with his torture of Buffy (And later Connor, though he had less time).

Ok, so I really love Buffy. And I liked all of three boys. You know, when I read top coment, it seems really stupid to me. I was really obsess with the piano version and I did pretty much the impossible to find her and now I own the version. Occasionally I use to pass it on to a couple of friends.
When I had watched all 7 Btvs seasons and all 5 Ats season i realized something. season 2 is by far the best season of any show i have ever watched. You can watch it once, or a hundred times. Never has there been such drama, love, hate, envy and total f*cking epicnes in anything that has ever aired. And the ending is the best thing that i have ever watched, beating Romeo & Juliet a thousand times over.
@scuffla I completely agree. Season 2 of BtVS is my favorite season of any show, ever. No season or show will ever match the emotion, the shock, the pain of season 2.
It seems to me odd to mention Buffy/Angel in the same breath as Twilight. They superficially share the theme of loving a vampire, but only a thoughtless creature could equate the two because of that. One is a television show that spoke to a generation of viewers and who remember it long after it ended for its poignancy, fun, and good heart; the other is pulp fiction, an encyclopaedia of emotionless clichés delivered in a flurry of meaningless hormonal angst, turned into an embarrassing film.

@CinnamonSlayer Ok.First of all i agree with you on Riley.Secondly,although i am a major Buffy/Angel fun,i couldn't help adoring Spike by the end of season 5.I mean he was in love with her while he was still soul-less and when he realised that the person he was,was capable of hurting her,he went and got himself a soul.Not to mention that he saved the world in the last episode.All in all,i too wanted Buffy to end up with Angel,but i believe Spike was an amazing character in this show.
@CinnamonSlayer Idk about that, I mean Spike and Riley loved her, I mean Riley said in Season 6 when he came back in that one episode, you are the only girl I ever loved, while all Spike thinks about is Buffy, he loved her without a soul, Angel needed a soul, without one, he didn't care for her. However, Buffy never really truly loved Riley, he was more in the "close friend zone" while Spike was just sort of a bad boy she used, and MAYBE cared for in some ways, but also hated in others.
@I9hate9usernames the only thing i dont like is whenever ppl say that spike loved her in season 6...no first of all he was basically neutered of his blood drinking days so eventually the only violence he got was to fight demons and work w buffy then he formed a crush on her. really i think he just had feelings for her and THEN loved her when he got his soul

Angel did much worse in Season 2 as Angelus, he wanted to destroy Buffy mentally before he finally killed her, he murdered Jenny, tortured Giles, tried to kill her other friends and would have raped Buffy given the chance.

@TenWhoWereTaken Spike wasn't trying to regain his soul though, he was trying to get the chip removed. Only when he said he wanted to "give Buffy what she deserves" did the demon ensoul him.
@cma4188 You're right, I forgot about that, but I'd imagine the Powers had some influence in giving him back his soul because he was destined to be a hero. Angel didn't come back from hell for Buffy, he was returned because he was to become a champion for the PTB, right?
I like Angel, I'm just playing Devil's advocate! It doesnt change the fact that Angel eventually got over Buffy and fell for Cordelia, whilst Spike remained true :P

@TenWhoWereTaken Yea I'm sure that's right, even if he did get the chip removed (which eventually happened anyways) I doubt he would have actually tried to kill Buffy, though that would have made for an interesting turn of events. I'm just mad Angel never got a Season 6 renewal (despite it's 2nd place ratings behind Smallville), I was really loving the Fred/Illyria thing.

@TenWhoWereTaken Remember: Without a soul, you cannot love. Spike grew on Buffy, and I don't think he truly loved her until he retrieved his soul. You must have a soul in order to love. The reason Angel killed those people was because he was ANGELUS. Angelus isn't Angel. Get your facts straight :P
@CinnamonSlayer I don't think you need a soul to love. The Judge was going to burn Spike and Drusilla because they had feelings for each other. The reason Spike tried to rape Buffy was because he was evil at the time too! William the Bloody not just plain William!

I was re-watching Buffy recently and in season 5, in the episode 'Crush', where Drusilla returns and Spike dumps Harmony and tries to kill Drusilla to prove his love for Buffy, Buffy says 'You can't love without a soul' and Drusilla says: 'Oh, we can, you know. We can love quite well. If not wisely.' The script's online :P
I think we're both right and the writers are inconsistent and change the rules when it suits them.

He went through the ritual because he believed it could permanently disable/remove the chip. When the guardian tells him he's passed and will be rewarded with a soul, he goes "Wait, what?" but doesn't get a chance to protest. He didn't do it for Buffy.

Not to mention that throughout the entire thing, he's ranting about "giving Buffy what she deserves." Altering his chip would be pointless in that regard, because it didn't work on Buffy anyway and he knew it.

Riley was ok, but very forgettable.
Spike and buffy's relationship was very flawed, but in that way realistic. He deeply regretted trying to rape her even before getting his soul back, something he fought for just to be a better man for her. Spike's an ass, but he genuinely loved her.
Angel did too, and the feeling was mutual. too much melodrama in that relationship though....
@CinnamonSlayer I mean right when buffy gets to the point of accepting that she and angel could never have sex or children (of their own anyway) he bails on the relationship. In the end he did more harm than good. Early on buffy was very naive and trusting of men, and didnt think of sex casually. Angel was the only one who wouldnt have exploited that. Buffy was happy with him despite the limitations of their relationship, and he quits just cause the mayor and joyce say it wont work...
@CinnamonSlayer Angels melodrama led, in the end, to buffy having a string of failed relationships that severly damaged buffy's faith in men. Also angel never really worked at the relationship. The saw each other, liked, smooched, talked about dying to save each other a LOT.
Spike fought and suffered to prove himself to a woman he KNEW full well would never feel the same about him, also fell over crying when she died, all without even having a soul. thats a pretty deep love.

In all seriousness though, Buffy never actually loved Spike, ensouled or not. Sure, she had sex with unsouled Spike, but sex and love are two very different things. Even after he got his soul back, it wasn't so much love for him as the knowledge that he -was- looking for some form of redemption, even if he himself didn't understand it on those terms.
@scuffla Of course not with a hundred percent certainty, but for me it's obvious that Meyers has been watching her 'Buffy' religiously - Edward is basically just a whinier and more annoying version of Angel. As for the vampire diaries, the similarities are more obvious in the novel. However all three have their roots in the very old story of vampire/human love

Yeah, I think Spike got that much sooner than Angel (he's obviously smarter :=)) But I'm pretty sure Spike doesn't care about the Shanshu, but he nevers assumes it doesn't exist. I never liked Buffy herself as a character, but I adored the series and I'd never ever try to deny Sarah Michelle Gellar's talent. She's an amazing actress and is the only one to ever make me cry at the death of a character I didn't like.

Here's my question: With all of Angel's various resources (TWO watchers, a practicing Wicca, an empath demon, not to mention an entire multy-purpose evil law firm) How come no one has tried to modify Angel's curse, eliminating the perfect happiness part? I mean, when Willow restored Angel's with a copy of the gypsy curse, why not modify it so that he can have sex without turning evil?

@scuffla I know right! Actually, Angeles could've sought that moment of true happiness right after the gypsies cursed him, he did try to go back to Darla and his old ways. I think a way the gypsies could've made it worse is if when he achieves true happiness, he only loses his soul for a couple days or what not, then have the soul come back.

@scuffla I loved that episode! And I think he mainly wanted to be human so that he could be with Buffy, but then when he was offered a chance at mortality, he turned it down! Yeah it really doesn't make much sense. I guess it's not so much the becoming immortal, it's the being forgiven for the crimes he did as Angelus.
@KingofBionicle Angel turned down immortality because the Oracles told him Buffy would die, so he exchanged his life for hers. Hmmm...maybe him becoming human in season 1 of Angel WAS the Shanshu?

The fact that Angel signs his Shanshu (effective or not) away in the last episode of the series ; this fact proves that he finally has understood what being a hero meant, and has become a hero. You don't fight because you have some interest in it, you do it because, even though it leads to death and darkness, someone has to.

They were happy and in love for those couple of hours, until he realized that his 'life' will cost buffys life, because he wouldn't be able to save her with human abilities.So instead of having buffy die, he chose to 'die' again. REally is a big definition of love.

@KingofBionicle once he regained his soul, he realized the terrible things he had done. He also noticed how bad Darla was, and he didn't love her. Remember he had sex with darla which resulted with Connor, and he didn't loose his soul? That is because he didn't love her. He only loves Buffy. THEREFORE saying he can have sex with anyone as long he is not in love. Or maybe he only looses his soul with buffy because that is the love of life?
When Buffy was on the air I was like 13-14. Saw the show here and there. I got netflix and started to watch it. Im in love with Angel, even Angelus. This song is beautiful. You can hear the innocence of first love, the intense passion and longing. Truly, from what my friends tell me about the show (i became obsessed) Angel does a lot of apperances in Buffy which proves TO ME, that they will always love each other till the end. Stupid Curse!!!!

I'm not saying this to knock Angel, who I also adored (I strongly disliked Riley, though!), but Spike would've done ANYTHING for Buffy. Ultimately, he sacrificed his life for her and the good of the world. His love for her made him a better man.

@ewiezz I know! I meant to put that in, too about his loving her even without his soul. :) That's what cemented it for me. Angel loved Buffy, but soul less Angelus certainly didn't. He spent practically half of season 2 torturing her friends and tried to kill her before raising Acathla. Once in love with her, Spike on the other hand, did everything in his power to protect her and Dawn and fought along side them. Though they had their MAJOR ups and downs, Spike was always there for her,

@ameliedaae Ok, In Angel's defence, he was a vamp who was a hundred years older than Spike and committed much more horrific crimes during his tenure as Angelus.He is the most horrific of the lot & his soul was given to him not to make him humane, but to suffer for eternity plus with a curse. He didnt earn it. It took him about 100 years to just come to terms with it and come out of the shell, while Spike did it in about 2 weeks under a basement.But I do agree with you..(Check the next comment)

Once the Initiative stopped hunting him, he had nothing tying him to Sunnydale except for Buffy and the others. Heck, if anything, he limited his options for seeking someone to remove the chip by deciding to stick around.
The chip really stopped being an excuse to stay pretty early on.

@ameliedaae Actually, I'm firmly convinced that Angelus DID love Buffy. Angel, Angelus, Souled Spike (Let's call him William, for sake of convenience), and Soulless Spike all loved her. The difference is in how that love was displayed. Angel and William were both far more vulnerable and affectionate. Spike was affectionate, but there's a clearly visible difference in how aggressive and dark his affection can get. Angelus is basically Spike's dark bits pushed to an extreme.

When I had watched all 7 Btvs seasons and all 5 Ats season i realized something. season 2 is by far the best season of any show i have ever watched. You can watch it once, or a hundred times. Never has there been such drama, love, hate, envy and total f*cking epicnes in anything that has ever aired. And the ending is the best thing that i have ever watched, beating Romeo & Juliet a thousand times over.

It seems to me odd to mention Buffy/Angel in the same breath as Twilight. They superficially share the theme of loving a vampire, but only a thoughtless creature could equate the two because of that. One is a television show that spoke to a generation of viewers and who remember it long after it ended for its poignancy, fun, and good heart; the other is pulp fiction, an encyclopaedia of emotionless clichés delivered in a flurry of meaningless hormonal angst, turned into an embarrassing film.

However, Buffy never really truly loved Riley, he was more in the "close friend zone" while Spike was just sort of a bad boy she used, and MAYBE cared for in some ways, but also hated in others.

Angel did much worse in Season 2 as Angelus, he wanted to destroy Buffy mentally before he finally killed her, he murdered Jenny, tortured Giles, tried to kill her other friends and would have raped Buffy given the chance.

@cma4188 You're right, I forgot about that, but I'd imagine the Powers had some influence in giving him back his soul because he was destined to be a hero. Angel didn't come back from hell for Buffy, he was returned because he was to become a champion for the PTB, right?
I like Angel, I'm just playing Devil's advocate! It doesnt change the fact that Angel eventually got over Buffy and fell for Cordelia, whilst Spike remained true :P

I was re-watching Buffy recently and in season 5, in the episode 'Crush', where Drusilla returns and Spike dumps Harmony and tries to kill Drusilla to prove his love for Buffy, Buffy says 'You can't love without a soul' and Drusilla says: 'Oh, we can, you know. We can love quite well. If not wisely.' The script's online :P
I think we're both right and the writers are inconsistent and change the rules when it suits them.

He went through the ritual because he believed it could permanently disable/remove the chip. When the guardian tells him he's passed and will be rewarded with a soul, he goes "Wait, what?" but doesn't get a chance to protest. He didn't do it for Buffy.

Riley was ok, but very forgettable.
Spike and buffy's relationship was very flawed, but in that way realistic. He deeply regretted trying to rape her even before getting his soul back, something he fought for just to be a better man for her. Spike's an ass, but he genuinely loved her.
Angel did too, and the feeling was mutual. too much melodrama in that relationship though....

In the end he did more harm than good. Early on buffy was very naive and trusting of men, and didnt think of sex casually. Angel was the only one who wouldnt have exploited that. Buffy was happy with him despite the limitations of their relationship, and he quits just cause the mayor and joyce say it wont work...

@CinnamonSlayer Angels melodrama led, in the end, to buffy having a string of failed relationships that severly damaged buffy's faith in men. Also angel never really worked at the relationship. The saw each other, liked, smooched, talked about dying to save each other a LOT.
Spike fought and suffered to prove himself to a woman he KNEW full well would never feel the same about him, also fell over crying when she died, all without even having a soul. thats a pretty deep love.

In all seriousness though, Buffy never actually loved Spike, ensouled or not. Sure, she had sex with unsouled Spike, but sex and love are two very different things. Even after he got his soul back, it wasn't so much love for him as the knowledge that he -was- looking for some form of redemption, even if he himself didn't understand it on those terms.

Can Whedon please after all these years PLEASE, FINALLY get them together or not!!! I hate that he can't just resolve the matter in the Buffy comic. I mean, "After the fall" was cool, but the Buffyverse should be concluded sometime before the 23rd century!!!

Here's my question: With all of Angel's various resources (TWO watchers, a practicing Wicca, an empath demon, not to mention an entire multy-purpose evil law firm) How come no one has tried to modify Angel's curse, eliminating the perfect happiness part? I mean, when Willow restored Angel's with a copy of the gypsy curse, why not modify it so that he can have sex without turning evil?

@KingofBionicle exactly what i asked ever since i first saw the show. If they curse him with a soul, shouldn't there be some cind of line that goes "and this is how he loses it" that you simple don't say?? I mean, crappy curse if it only makes him lose it when he's happy, he just kills everyone again, and the gypsies really can't wish Angelus to be loose again??

@scuffla I know right! Actually, Angeles could've sought that moment of true happiness right after the gypsies cursed him, he did try to go back to Darla and his old ways. I think a way the gypsies could've made it worse is if when he achieves true happiness, he only loses his soul for a couple days or what not, then have the soul come back.

@KingofBionicle Yea, But that would only result in some whacky limbo thing where he loses and regains his soul too often. one thing I am kinda curious about is why he wants to become human through Shanshu?? isn't it much nicer too be immortal and still have a soul? Cause if he becomes human he just dies and goes to hell. Love those "Alternate story" sites where guys (some whith real talent) write how they believe things should have turned out, cause so much didn't make sense in the show!

@scuffla I loved that episode! And I think he mainly wanted to be human so that he could be with Buffy, but then when he was offered a chance at mortality, he turned it down! Yeah it really doesn't make much sense. I guess it's not so much the becoming immortal, it's the being forgiven for the crimes he did as Angelus.

@KingofBionicle Angel turned down immortality because the Oracles told him Buffy would die, so he exchanged his life for hers. Hmmm...maybe him becoming human in season 1 of Angel WAS the Shanshu?

@OkeyDokey23 --> Possibly. But I think that the Shanshu is an illusion. It's what keeps you fighting against evil, because you always expect some kind of reward. The fact that Angel signs his Shanshu (effective or not) away in the last episode of the series ; this fact proves that he finally has understood what being a hero meant, and has become a hero. You don't fight because you have some interest in it, you do it because, even though it leads to death and darkness, someone has to.

@OkeyDokey23 is true wat okeydokey23 says. He gained mortality and when he asked what he wanted most, he immediatly went to buffy. They were happy and in love for those couple of hours, until he realized that his 'life' will cost buffys life, because he wouldn't be able to save her with human abilities.So instead of having buffy die, he chose to 'die' again. REally is a big definition of love.

@KingofBionicle once he regained his soul, he realized the terrible things he had done. He also noticed how bad Darla was, and he didn't love her. Remember he had sex with darla which resulted with Connor, and he didn't loose his soul? That is because he didn't love her. He only loves Buffy. THEREFORE saying he can have sex with anyone as long he is not in love. Or maybe he only looses his soul with buffy because that is the love of life?

When Buffy was on the air I was like 13-14. Saw the show here and there. I got netflix and started to watch it. Im in love with Angel, even Angelus. This song is beautiful. You can hear the innocence of first love, the intense passion and longing. Truly, from what my friends tell me about the show (i became obsessed) Angel does a lot of apperances in Buffy which proves TO ME, that they will always love each other till the end. Stupid Curse!!!!

I cry sometimes. Although it's just a TV show, I feel so heavenly when watching Angel w/ Buffy. Remember when Angel gave Buffy a ring, saying he belonged to her? Well it was so beautiful.
Buffy, the vampire slayer, is supposed to rid of all the undead. But Angel, he has a soul, he is a vampire but they are in love. How could she live?
Riley and Spike are complete creepers and frickin' ugly compared to Angel.
He kind of lit me up. When I saw him after Joyce's death, I felt weak in the knees :]
