The Soviet animation of 1950's—1960's is amazing: smooth, detailed, realistic. Almost every animated film was a masterpiece (especially given the poor technology of the time).

Fascinating. Was this the entire film or just excerpts? Some of the exterior spaceship shots seem to use models with painted backgrounds, like the Fleischers used to do.
