:D I had one under 10 hands, and he could (for a short time) carry an adult rider. they are quite sturdy. Ponies must be trained by adults (groundwork, lungeing, line-driving, and occasionally riding by smaller adults). Your pony rocks! You clearly take great care of him!

I feel so sorry for you with everyone else commenting that you hurt this pony. I have three minis, and all are ridable for small children. I personally had to break them in, being OVER 70 lbs, mind you, smart person who commented that they can *only* carry 70...it really depends on the size of the horse, pony, mini, or whatever you're riding. But seriously, would any smart person put a small child onto an unbroke horse? No. That is *why* bigger people train them first.

I loled. Anyone in doubt of this ponies welfare is not educated enough to pass judgment. It is much safer to put a larger rider on a pony such as this than a small child who would not stand a chance. Ponies can carry a lot of weight and he had no trouble getting the rider off, he is perfectly capable of taking care of himself. Of course I would say they were too big if they wanted to ride it everyday and keep it for themselves, but they're not and its not cruel.

Winkles is broken in, he was just gelded late and this explains his actions. He has always been cheeky and no, this is not due to back problems, he wasn't ridden on very many occasions anyway. He just enjoys the occasional ride around the paddock. Trust me guys, this pony is perfectly happy, healthy and sound. I appreciate your concerns but what's done is done and no harm has been caused by it, and Winkles is as cheeky and happy as ever!

My horse has a history of back problems and for this reason I no longer ride him, and he is 26. The pony is just being a little butt. You can tell by the way he rounds his back before rearing or bucking. He'd be flinching up the second she got on if he were in pain.

Now I have been getting onto a lot of people who are riding ponies that are too small for them. Theres a lot of those videos here on youtube. But I don't see you as being to big for this pony. You may be a bit tall which would make it difficult to balance but you are very small. I don't think you are too big for this little fellow, and its not like you were man handling him. :)

Yes this is a pony that is small, but by the looks of it, this pony is stocky and sturdy. He can definitely support her weight, if not more. Why do all these idiots think it's ok to ride a mini? they are NOT shetland ponies. They can NOT take the weight. The only thing accomplished by this is causing the mini pain and possible physical damage to spine, pelvis, withers and joints. The MAXIMUM weight a mini can carry is 70lbs... and that is only if it is a big enough mini. From the AMHA: Miniature Horses should not be ridden by anyone over 70 pounds. Children up to 70lbs may ride depending on Miniature's age, height & body type

As someone who is mastering in Equine anatomy, bio-mechanics and musculature and studying how horses react to pain, are injured by and their training and actions are influenced by pain and injury, I can tell you that he is NOT having fun and you most likely ARE causing him pain.
