:D I had one under 10 hands, and he could (for a short time) carry an adult rider. they are quite sturdy. Ponies must be trained by adults (groundwork, lungeing, line-driving, and occasionally riding by smaller adults). Your pony rocks! You clearly take great care of him!
anyone that says you hurt this pony is WRONG! i dont think people understand that these ponys are NOT helpless and can easily carry or pull this amount of weight and have no side affects other than being completley adorable. :)
poooor animal, you have a problem because you dont understand that you hurt the horse, he tried to buck you off because you are to big and fat you have no heart for little ponnys.
I feel so sorry for you with everyone else commenting that you hurt this pony. I have three minis, and all are ridable for small children. I personally had to break them in, being OVER 70 lbs, mind you, smart person who commented that they can *only* carry 70...it really depends on the size of the horse, pony, mini, or whatever you're riding. But seriously, would any smart person put a small child onto an unbroke horse? No. That is *why* bigger people train them first.
there are many other ways to break a pony other than having someone too large to ride it.. hmmm horse people?? i think not.. back yard horse owners is what is the confusion
Wow, people are so retarded. Obviously this girl isnt too heavy for him. If she was, he would not have been able to rear like that or kick up like he was. Come on people, think about it!
Lol wow people are stupid. Miniature ponies can hold twice their weight, with the exception of ones with back problems and so forth. I honestly don't think this girl weighs 2,000 pounds thank you very much. And it's not like shes working him.
I loled. Anyone in doubt of this ponies welfare is not educated enough to pass judgment. It is much safer to put a larger rider on a pony such as this than a small child who would not stand a chance. Ponies can carry a lot of weight and he had no trouble getting the rider off, he is perfectly capable of taking care of himself. Of course I would say they were too big if they wanted to ride it everyday and keep it for themselves, but they're not and its not cruel.
Winkles is broken in, he was just gelded late and this explains his actions. He has always been cheeky and no, this is not due to back problems, he wasn't ridden on very many occasions anyway. He just enjoys the occasional ride around the paddock. Trust me guys, this pony is perfectly happy, healthy and sound. I appreciate your concerns but what's done is done and no harm has been caused by it, and Winkles is as cheeky and happy as ever!
@GiddyUpGalz You're right. I've been watching the video and there is no sign that the pony is in pain in the least. My horse has a history of back problems and for this reason I no longer ride him, and he is 26. The pony is just being a little butt. You can tell by the way he rounds his back before rearing or bucking. He'd be flinching up the second she got on if he were in pain.
Wow, okay guys it has been a year and a half since I posted this video and I never thought it would attract this much attention! I think I should probably set a couple of things straight here as well. Regardless of what any of you may think, (and most of you guys ARE across the other side of the world!) I did not 'break' this pony's back. He is currently living out in a huge paddock with a bunch of other ponies enjoying life as his owner is in another state. (Continued)
OMG how would it brake the ponies back?? Horses and ponies have a very hard structure there not like dogs and cats, ponies are used for carting and are very capable of carrying people on there backs.
@oxEqUeStRiAnIsMxo ALRIGHT I'M SORRY! I HAVE A 7 HAND PONY AND THE BREEDER TOLD US DONT RIDE HER, HER BACK CAN BREAK! So maybe you should learn more about miniature horses huh?
Well bred miniature horses are very strong, and all ponies are naturally very strong and sturdy, like small draft horses. Trust me, this little gal isn't going to hurt him just by sitting on him.
Now I have been getting onto a lot of people who are riding ponies that are too small for them. Theres a lot of those videos here on youtube. But I don't see you as being to big for this pony. You may be a bit tall which would make it difficult to balance but you are very small. I don't think you are too big for this little fellow, and its not like you were man handling him. :)
shetlands can carry adults so actually your all wrong and over dramatic if u think shes hurting him and shouldnt be riding him... just sayin!!! hes cute btw:-)
yeah clearly ... poor animal. how do you think that ponies this size are broken in for smaller and younger children to ride safely? they need bigger riders who are more experienced to teach them not to fool around and to school them correctly. gugh! i hate people who are so "animal rights" but dont have a clue what theyre talking about. uneducated twats!
@Shokara2 awk cheers. just hate folk who are uneducated. clearly small ponies like this need worked by the small, but larger, more experienced rider for flatwork, lateral work and lunging. teaches them basic manners so they can become excellenchildren's fist ponies. the older rider can also keep the pony think and building on its different muscles through more complex work. wee rant = over :) :) <3
@MerryNico528 Trust me when I say that he's fine carrying people my size. He gets ridden for 15 minutes every couple of years if he's lucky, and in the mean time he's a happy little cheeky backyard pony.
@GiddyUpGalz Im sorry, i didnt mean to say that you were a bad person. I didnt mean to be that Mean. All i ment to say was just to be careful. I didnt want to start a whole thing of fighting with people who think in stupid, and cussing at me. I didnt mean for all of this to happen. Im sorry
@MerryNico528 I used to ride my mini like 4 years ago and i didnt break her back, im the only person who could acttully ride her, I was probaly about her size and my mini was probaly the size of hers maybe bigger.
@MerryNico528 Break a horses back? You can't break a horses back from simply just sitting on it, unless the horse is weak or very small. Yes this is a pony that is small, but by the looks of it, this pony is stocky and sturdy. He can definitely support her weight, if not more. So please, before you go on commenting and being rude, you should make sure you know what your saying. BTW.. Very cute clip :)
@Love4Horsezz OK, I get it. NO NEED TO KEEP ON REPLYING TO MY COMMENT! Ok, i might have been wrong! Sorry people! But no need to keep on saying i was wrong ok? No ones perfect like you may be
@MerryNico528 You do realise her feet can touch the ground at any second right....SHE'S NOT RIDING IT. Do your fucking research on a pony before you attempt to call it weak.
@candymeadowalmondjoy ohh he's not mine, and i was only riding him for 15 minutes or so, because he's only little. you could probably ride yours if she is broken in, be careful though and if she looks uncomfortable, get off :)
Awww! What a cheeky little pony!He is not in pain, because if he was,his ears would be pinned back, and he could jump and buck a lot more than this! They are just having fun!Lay off haterz!
i ride my 9.2hh shetland and im way too big but it dont matter as llong as thye can hold ur wieght! :L so dunno what the fuss is all about :') btw that pony is very pretty :) x
ok i don't that pony is i pain but he is certainly not having fun!! if a pony bucks on evryone you say that might mean he has something wrong with his back
@MsMolly789 he's seriously fine, he doesn't get ridden often and when he does he likes to have a bit of fun. he's not ridden anymore and his back is fine. this was a while ago too mind you.
Why do all these idiots think it's ok to ride a mini? they are NOT shetland ponies. They can NOT take the weight. The only thing accomplished by this is causing the mini pain and possible physical damage to spine, pelvis, withers and joints. The MAXIMUM weight a mini can carry is 70lbs... and that is only if it is a big enough mini. From the AMHA: Miniature Horses should not be ridden by anyone over 70 pounds. Children up to 70lbs may ride depending on Miniature's age, height & body type
@adhaney as a matter of fact, he was not in pain, being hurt or abused in any way, and i DO weigh under 70kgs thanks. winkles is a cheeky pony and acts like this all the time, regardless who is on him, or what he's doing. i would NEVER do anything to inflict pain knowingly on an innocent creature, and he is not in pain, he's having fun. if you're still determined that i'm abusing him, please message me and we can sort it out. thankyou.
@GiddyUpGalz 70 pounds, not 70 kgs. 70lbs is about 32 kgs. I seriously doubt you weigh under 70lbs. As someone who is mastering in Equine anatomy, bio-mechanics and musculature and studying how horses react to pain, are injured by and their training and actions are influenced by pain and injury, I can tell you that he is NOT having fun and you most likely ARE causing him pain.
@exmakela yeah he is pretty small, but he's fine carrying people heavier than me, he's a hardy little man :)
and he bucks because of his personality, he's very rebellious and hates being told what to do, not because i'm not hurting him in any way, so its okay :)
@GiddyUpGalz ahh, you don't weigh so much xD and minipony's can carry 2 times their own body weight so ;p i don'tt think you can reach that, oh well maybe with 2 fat girls xD
he can carry your weight.Hes being a little fuck. Teach him some manners!
