  • Love that Rhodes piano sound! That's the sound of the '70s, man!

  • Larry Willis, da man on the keyboards.

  • What a great episode in the life of B.S.&T. Awesome.

  • IS THIS TRAVIS TRITTS DADDY???

  • They were definitely a tight, groovin' band.

  • I was wondering what the Original Singer/Leader looked like, He's movin' like a spinning wheel, awsome.

  • Me t Dave at a concert in 1977 at the Sha-Boo, Willamatic, Connecticut

He could care less who he was talking to.

  • Musicians!

  • bs&t, ew&f, cta, tower of power etc.....just so dam good.

  • The Scientology training ship BOLIVAR was visiting SFO Bay from Los Angeles in 1969 and was visited by Blues Image down at Fisherman's Warf during an open house. The group found the Scientologists interesting and were rapt with the Scientologists quest for increasing awareness of everyday people. The 'mystery ship' was the media's take on the ship's visit. Check the papers from 1967 to 1969 with that phrase.

Their impessions added up to a great song - the lyrics

    reflect Scientology line by line.

  • Smooth jazz is BS, is what. It's either jazz or it's not. If you look around you'll find plenty of jazz out there -- just listen to WBGO 88.3 FM -- you can get them online.

  • In retrospect, in spite of the musicianship displayed here, the original has a better groove and a better vibe.

  • i came across this accidentally and watched it. then watched it again. and again. great musicians.

  • this is the singers best performance i think...just my opinion.

  • This is Very nice!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey, Tom Jones does Blues Image!!

  • I agree David had a great voice but always seemed to pick really corny tunes - Lucretia McEvil, Hi-Dee-Ho come to mind.

  • David is the blackest white man ever....blacker than Tom Jones and twice as black as Lionel Ritchie and 90% blacker than Wayne Brady

  • @nitemoovs Wayne Brady is black???

  • @nitemoovs and 100% blacker than Drew Carey.

  • @nitemoovs damn right

  • That post makes no sense at all, is it in English.

  • My God, look at him ride the beat like it's a fine horse. That man was born to sing.

  • David was blessed with a great soul/blues voice, even when he was in Toronto before B, S & T. He just published his autobiography and has a fairly new cd "Soul Ballads", where he tackles famous soul tunes. Both the book and cd are recommended. Lots of people don't know B S & T was originally Al Kooper's band, David was the replacement lead singer. They are not even close in approach. Al is a great artist also, his B S & T cd is great. Thanks for posting, appreciate it.

  • Awesome !!!!!!!!!

  • It doesn't really matter who else was in the band David Clayton was BS&T. If it wasn't for his Voice they would have never made it like so many other bands. Black Sabbath without Ozzy,Van Halen with out Diamond Dave, Ya they cut a few albums after words but were never the same. So thank-you David Clayton for your phenomenal voice and the great memories that you have given me through the years.

  • @bobbybear1965 - I agree in the sense that they were not making it as a pop band with Al Kooper. However, the first BS&T also has a lot to offer as far as creativity and studio work goes.

  • It was originally done by blues image

  • @carniesf I thought the version by the blues image was superior.

  • This is a good song, and they are a GREAT group. (BTW, is this their song. I have seen some clues that other people sang it.)

  • Great choice for a cover song. David adds some grit to it!

  • BS&T doing this song is downright weird. Not their style at all.

  • Did jazz did died?

  • @thinchris - Jazz Fusion died. Trad Jazz was reborn with Wynton and all his young lions.

  • @gamoonbat No, did do jazz done dead?

  • @thinchris - No.

  • @gamoonbat But do done jazz did not deaded didnt it?

  • @gamoonbat I don't think jazz fusion died. It kind of 'morphed' into "smooth jazz"..........then it died.

  • @wildnites558

    So what's smooth jazz then?

Don't get me wrong. I really want to know why fusion and many other brands of jazz seems to have gone in the latest couple of decades.

    Do you really know?

  • @wildnites558 smooth jazz never died...it just is too sophisticated for today's kids weened on crap sold to them from today's 'music' empires. there is a reason 45 years later we still listen to this great music. in 45 years will anyone remember rap crap- i think not.

  • As much as I love BS&T, this particular song just doesn't jibe with their rock/jazz style of music. A noble effort, but no dice.

  • agreed!

  • sorry not as good as the original not even close

  • So Fred Lipsius was not with the band in '76?

  • @Johnhoulgate

The band's line-up changed totally after BS&T4(1972). Lipsius, Soloff, Katz, Halligan, all went. Only Colomby and Clayton-Thomas remained. The new band had its moments, but in my opinion the unique, distinctive character of its predecessor was lost. I loved Lipsius on alto.

  • @rick2270 Thanks for filling me in. I've met Fred Lipsius. He's a very gentle and wonderful person.

  • whoa to say the least! .. BS&T doing what they do best, incredible rock jazz fusion .. Larry Willis on the Rhodes keyboards- cookin', truly cookin' .. the rest of the band including Colomby and the remarkable Dave Bargeron> wow! ..

thank you so much for sharing this !

  • Whoa...this song started all-Tom-Jones-meets-Blues-Image-like, but it was saved by the cool Rhodes Eighty-Eight solo (ironically-not a 73)...and then it sunk afterwards. ☺

  • Agreed.

  • I'm sorry but they totally destroy the chorus. In the original it sounds so much better.

  • This totally rocks! : )

  • & Rolls Too!

  • wow crazy! never knew they covered this! this cooks!

  • WHEN will they put out this album as a CD? (Not the live version, but the album this song was on.)

  • New City! There are vinyl rips out there somewhere...

  • New City is available on CD...I got it from amazon, i think......great CD.....rock on, BS&T

  • Bobby Colomby was one of the best drummers from this period. It always amazed me that he just walked away from the drums at such a young age.

  • did he play drums before he took over the vocals?

  • @giantsownu25 Columby was one of Buddy Rich's favorite drummers, along with Danny Seraphine and Carl Palmer

  • BS&T always had a top-flight brass section, & knew how to use it too!!! This is a great jazzy arrangement of the original tune.

  • Blues Image is "Awesome"!!!..& u can't take that "original version" from them...but...BS&T version is "Great"!!.. =0]

  • Rhodes piano for the win.

  • love this, a gem

  • I love this song. Blood Sweat and Tears is an Awsome band. This song is really a great one!

  • i love the horn break in this.thank you for posting this i used to hate the original i love this version
