  • i dont see any grooves when i turn the crank.

  • i cant get the two bolts out close to the motor either , i have 03 jetta 1.8 turbo

    need help please

  • there are two bolt between the engine and tranny. the crank has to be turned just so in order to get to the bolts easier.

  • Ok, at least two people asked this question: WHY DID YOU TURN THE CRANK SHAFT?

I'm assuming there must be a 'hidden' bolt... but you bother to clarify... the video is helpful but since you leave details out it still leaves folks with questions... can you please answer - is there a bolt "inside" the housing near the motor mounts? I have taken three motor mount bolts off and all the 10mm hex muts from the perimeter but pan will not come off...

    Can you explain? thanks,

  • hello,

I just finished changing out my oil pan. My car is also a 1999 Jetta TDI. The small bolts holding up the oil pan also has a 5mm socket hex in the center of it. So with a long 5 mm hex wrench, I was able to loosen these bolts messing with anything else.

It would probably be worth while to order a few extra bolts from the dealer before you start. I wish I had.

  • The car has 4x4 status and your wife is still breaking oil pans lol

  • .

what is the purpose for turning the crank?

    -.-

  • I need to know you right now. I need this done for cheap :(

  • Nice vid...

  • both you guys look gay

  • Here in Chiapas, Mexico with a nearly 2 inch hole on my 2001 TDI oil pan I had the hole welded. Found an aluminum welder. Only a $100. dollars for the job, included a mechanic. No, we did not have to do anything with the A/C unit or belt.

  • Thanks for the helpful info, just busted my oil pan today on some railroad tracks! This info helps A LOT!

  • I need help with those two bolts by the fly wheel. I cant seem to get to them. I turn the crank shaft but dont see the "grooves" hes talking about. Anyone have details? Doing this on a 01 Jetta 2.0

  • @CUDALOVE I am currently having the same problem...

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • I'm changing the oil pan on my '99 Beetle this afternoon. I just wanted to make sure it was as easy as I've read. Thanks!

  • did he change only the oil pan gasket? or he changed the whole thing in oil pan?

    anyone know please tell me.

  • he changed the whole thing.. apperantly the guys wife likes to hit rocks. lol so the oil pan is cracked.. so i think he installed a new pan....

  • with these oil pans there is no gasket. They use a silicone sealant instead.

  • nice job

  • hey man just wondering do u think silicone is better then the gasket... do u think its stands better heat, and does it act like a gasket.... thats wat i heard? plz response thnx

  • what that hell its too easy and the looser in canadiant tire wanna charge me 200$ for change my oil pan fuck in my jetta gl audi turbo that crazy tanks for the video now i know how to do

  • tell me about it. took my audi to a shop over here in socal and they wanted $370.

  • also when you drained the oil pan, you turned the plug clock wise right?

  • i cant remember it has been a year

  • @triple6studio Jealous that I don't know much about cars and you seem to save yourself a lot of money knowing this shit

  • @jylon42990400 Turn it counter clock wise. Just stripped mine turning it clockwise. fml.

  • how much did your oil pan cost. and where did you get it?

  • i think we got it from ebay

  • nicely done, im about to do the same thing on my 2002 passat. The passat also does not have an actual gasket, VW themselves only use the silicone one.

  • IMPECABLE VIDEO CONGRATULATIONS .. i find oil pan in ebay , for mi tdi , pay 65U$ , front 190 U$ in deealer , use a mechanic ,soo your video worck to decrease a price of labor , only pay after show a mechanic $80 , before consult quote $150 labor , thanks man best regards

  • Do you know if I used an OEM gasket shoul I used the silicone gasket also or is not needed? Thanks a lot for replying me on my first question!!

  • it will not hurt to use silicone on both sides of a OEM gasket it will also make installation easier but on this model jetta it never came with one it just had silicone so its your call

  • Cool video. I just have a question, you don't need a gasket just like you would put in a transmision fluid pan?

  • that is right on this model the parts places don't sell one so we used the right stuff gasket silicone from napa auto parts any more questions just ask

  • good vid
