Ok, at least two people asked this question: WHY DID YOU TURN THE CRANK SHAFT?
I'm assuming there must be a 'hidden' bolt... but you didn't bother to clarify... the video is helpful but since you leave details out it still leaves folks with questions... can you please answer - is there a bolt "inside" the housing near the motor mounts? I have taken three motor mount bolts off and all the 10mm hex muts from the perimeter but pan will not come off...

I just finished changing out my oil pan. My car is also a 1999 Jetta TDI. The small bolts holding up the oil pan also has a 5mm socket hex in the center of it. So with a long 5 mm hex wrench, I was able to loosen these bolts messing with anything else.
It would probably be worth while to order a few extra bolts from the dealer before you start. I wish I had.
Here in Chiapas, Mexico with a nearly 2 inch hole on my 2001 TDI oil pan I had the hole welded. Found an aluminum welder. Only a $100. dollars for the job, included a mechanic. No, we did not have to do anything with the A/C unit or belt.
I need help with those two bolts by the fly wheel. I cant seem to get to them. I turn the crank shaft but dont see the "grooves" hes talking about. Anyone have details? Doing this on a 01 Jetta 2.0
Hey im doing a 99 VW jetta 2.0 im stuck with the 2 bolts by the fly wheel i didnt see no indent or am i looking at the wrong place ? should i be looking more were the bolts at is that were the indent at and what tool are you using 1/4 joint or a stright 10mm socket ?

with these oil pans there is no gasket. They use a silicone sealant instead.
