@dannopalooza so is opeth not metal because of "harvest", is kamelot not metal because of "don't you cry". Those songs may not be "metal" but it doesn't disqualify that genre title from being applied to that artist. I generally do not consider PT metal but they do have metal elements in many songs. PT is a band that incorporates many different genres such as pop rock, art rock, prog, metal, rock, and even some dance style beats. PT transcends genres which is why i think we all like them.

Tool and Meshugah are also great Prog Bands. But, for me as a Prog Lover since 70's to these days, Opeth and Porcupine are much better than the others.

And I love Dream Theater or Mastodon or Tool.

Opeth could reinvent Death Metal Music and mades some revolucionary and Great.. Porcupine Tree has Steven Wilson and that says all.

De hecho Porcupine Tree es de los grupos más difíciles de categorizar, debido a sus influencias (como el Krautrock, entre otras), pero puedes tener por seguro que no es post-rock (que tampoco replantea al rock progresivo....de hecho no tiene nada que ver con rock progresivo), y ninguna banda de tan buen género se encuentra dentro de sus influencias.

Neee esos "especialistas" estan por el piso. Esto no tiene nada de post rock, el post rock es muy lento; los cambios son lentos, tardados, y generalmente es instrumental, hasta resulta "ambiental".

BLACKEST EYES... no, no diria que es metal progresivo, pero si tiene sus influencias. Aunque es completamente comprensible pues este es el primer disco de Steven Wilson desde que empezo como productor de Opeth; desde este disco PT empezo a tornarse mas "pesado", mas "metalero".

A partir de In Absentia sus guitarras se volvieron mas agresivas y se acercaron al metal.. pero su gènero no es metal progresivo como por ejemplo, Dream T. El sonido de sus guitarras es mas cercano al Hard Rock que al Metal actual tambien. La mejor banda hoy por hoy sin duda..y ya han venido a Mèxico dos veces!! ojalà vayan a Peru. Saludos!
