While it's true that originally Crysis looked better than Crysis 2, Crysis 2 now looks better in a different way. Crysis still looks more realistic because of the light and setting, but doesn't mean it's better lookinh because the art direction is different, and the textures in both are (now) very good.
@midnit19 back during the release of the original crysis no pc had the power to run it at full specs, so cpu optimization was pointless, a guy from geek squad said that not even NASA had a computer that could run it at the max settings
@ParkerYoungOfficial that's bad .... Crysis 2 has worse lighting, it has more colors and better reflections, also not all c1 texture are great, the ground, doesnt look all that good, you can't see the pixels like in crysis 2 but still, crysis 1 is not cartoony at all, and dof is good in c1, and crysis 2 doesnt have bad textures,... they're just worse than crysis.. so overall crysis 1 beats crysis 2 in graphcis by a bit, only in reflections not, we'll wait for dx11 to see :)
@Blody1337 Crysis 1 has much more advanced lighting. Go look up a a palm tree in front of the sun in crysis 1 and you'll notice some nice volumetric lighting and that some of the leaves will dissapear into the brightness. This does not happen in crysis 2. Crysis 1 also had more advanced shaders, colors blended together much better and looked more realistic. The physics are worse too, you can shoot a rocket at a kiosk and it wont do anything. Lastly, foliage textures are much lower resolutions.
@roccvince look up CryEngine 2 vs CryEngine 3 on youtube. You'll see the difference, and why they optimized it. Cry Engine 3 was meant for people with low end systems, and consoles. Cry Engine 2 had a more realistic rendering than Cry Engine 3. The code is still the same, but Cry Engine 3 is more optimized for Mulit-platform use.
@nintendowiids12 Ya it is from consoles that's why I was saying that Cry Engine 3 is for multi-platform use. That's why the PC version is more constricted to the limited textures. If you compared Xbox360 screenshot, and PC you will see the PC is more sharper, and higher quality, but the rendering is still the same because of Cry Engine 3. In other words it's not using the full potential of the engine like Cry Engine 2 did for Crysis 1. You have to sacrifice Quality for performance.
@TheVin0x no, warhead is kind of an " add on" its too big to be called a dlc and too small to be called a completely separate game, the main difference is, different story, character, and warhead has some more guns with the cost of a shorter story.
a lot of people test the stupid beta version and say that crysis 1 looks better. it doesn't. we will have to wait for some time before those people realise that fact.
i really dont get why people think crysis 1 looked better. crysis 1 had bad depth of field and this video doesn't show character detail at all. it just shows dead npcs. it should have showed living characters then we would have seen how good c2 is. the sunlight through trees in c2 is better and weapons in c2 look way better than c1. the only thing in which c1 looks better is water.
@SukritSen15 Well if you are not a PC Enthusiast you wouldn't know the difference. Crysis 2 is a different setting environment you can't really compare. But if you look at the shading, rendering, and textures Crysis 1 still looks better by a greater margin. Crysis 2 got optimized heavily for consoles so PC followed the same path. If they used the full potential of Cry Engine 3 like Cry Engine 2 then it would only be for PC, and for high end users.
i think with crysis 2 they focused on getting the first engine to run on consoles and i thnik they did a good job with that, they transfered the textures, effects etc very well but the stuff they built for C2 from scratch looks really weak, esspecially the textures. i've played the game on the 360 and the crates for example look really nice, like in c1 but the building textures and pavements and stuff look really bad compared to c1
@FrapsChannel For Crysis 1 on very high settings it's around 30-40, but depends on the map. IF there is is a lot of stuff it drops below 30fps. For Crysis 2 it doesn't drop below 30, and I get an average of 40-60fps on extreme settings even with a lot of stuff going around.
While it's true that originally Crysis looked better than Crysis 2, Crysis 2 now looks better in a different way. Crysis still looks more realistic because of the light and setting, but doesn't mean it's better lookinh because the art direction is different, and the textures in both are (now) very good.
Crysis also looked different on release.

You're so lucky you got Crysis 2 on Steam! Because of EA's Origin they removed Crysis 2 from Steam permanently! :(

DUDE!! YOU HAVE TO DO CRYSIS 1 ON ULTRA HIGH SETTINGS FOR A SHOCKER!! crysis 2 cannot beat crysis 1 on ultra settings. Cryengine 3 is not so good.

they should of just optimized the original crysis for better CPU utilization dick heads

We will see who will be better with 1.9 Patch (DX11 and High-Res Texture) coming 27 June for Crysis 2.

@infernal992 They already have screenshots on their site, and I don't see any huge difference in the textures except for the DX11 tessellation.

Does Crysis 2 still have the same destruction as Crysis 1?
FragileDogg 9 months ago
@FragileDogg no fucking way. I wouldn't be surprised if Crysis 2 isn't another console to PC port
heatblast100 8 months ago
@FragileDogg the pc version does, the console version is toned down a bit.
RedChromeX 8 months ago
You had a pretty bad destruction example for Crysis 2, but other than that it was good.

@ShockWave270 on steam: crysis €15, im pretty sure steam doesnt know what they are selling.
salared2 9 months ago
My assumption:
Crysis 2:
Good: More realistic cinematic effect shading, better weapons, slightly better lighting, better optimization.
Bad: Engine not at all used to full potential, water could be better, very limited graphics settings, bad textures, static skybox.
Crysis:
Good: Terrific physics, highly customizable graphics settings, everything is high res, engine used to full potential, better view distance.
Bad: DOF could be better, bad optimization, bad gun animations, too cartoony.

@ParkerYoungOfficial me too man, and from i see crysis 2 has more appealing graphics, but overall crysis 1 is superior

Crysis2:bad side:3D skybox static, lower res graphics on some materials, field of view limited, lower shadow rendered.
good side:phenomenal explosion effects,better light effects,physics are slightly improved,improved shaders,bloom effects.(better cinematic effects)
Crysis:bad side:bad optimasation,lower depth of field,slightly lower shaders,lower dx level.
good side:almost every texture is high res, volumetic skybox, better field of view expecialy on the longer distance.(better graphic options).

personally, i thought crysis 2 had better graphics than the original because it plays so smoothly, and their was so much variety to the environment.
For those who solemnly judge the graphics on the texture and polygon counts should wait for the dx11 update later this month.
