dragonplate armor is the best heavy armor in the game. yes, it has less base stats then deadric, but keep this in mind. the max armor rating you can have is 567. any higher than that is useless, since the damage reduction mechanic has a 85% cap (which when put through the armor rating algorithm comes to 567). both deadric and dragon plate, when improved enough, both hit the 567 cap. so at that point what matters is weight, and dragon is considerably lighter than daedric.
@Ubermonkeh With high enough smithing, you can get most any armour up to 567 points. You can even make Thieves Guild or Dark Brotherhood armours with 567.
It comes a time when all that matters is the role playing aspect of a role play game.
I use heavy armor with a single handed sword and a destruction magic spell, i use the spell to ignore armor, blocking, or just enemies that are far away. The sword goes into use when they finally reach me (hopefully already down to half health or so) and then I power attack, staggering them, retreat a bit and use the same combo. Even though this account is a low level its been working perfectly so far.
... mobs gain hp/strength with your lvling ... its just absurd. But I still play as a destro mage ... since I can kick dragon skeletons with dual cast spells over the whole map with 0 magicka cost, HELL YEAH!
Spells are inferior to weapons in Skyrim since you can increase weapon dmg through enchanting/smithing, and you can hit like sick dmg like 16000 dmg crits from stealth ... max dmg spell is 120 dmg (master lvl fire spell) ... + alchemy potions. Realy you should increase your dmg with perks not lower spell cost ... or at least make enchantments that increase dmg or that points spent in magicka also increase spell dmg ... but to me it seems the higher I am lvl weaker I am getting since mobs gain hp
I'm lvl 60 and I was thinking about putting some perks in destruction but this looks like a lot of trouble. I think I'll stick to chopping heads off with my axe and defending with my trusty shield, but it's bugging me cuz I really want to give mages a taste of their own medicine.
I have 140 magica- the only problem i have is when i go to soul trap or summon an atronoch... I have 1 or 2 enchantments to help with my magica... But i think it is alteration and 5% regen... i don't use alteration lol
To me that is not a very good strategy, because when you cast a spell your magicka doesn't regenerate. So if your repeatedly casting a spell the amount of times you can cast the spell depends on your amount of magicka.
Well actually, if you do have high magicka regen, like 200%, it does effect your regen even in combat..it's still slow, but there is a huge difference if you have 0%. Anyway, this is only a simple strategy to use if you don't have high enchantment to create free magicka on spells.

@HeRcULesBlasTer He says why, he said that he didn't go around doing all the work of killing dragons and taking their scales and bones just to let them sit in his inventory. He also mentions how it's lighter than daedric armor with only a slightly lower armor rating.
I have a full set of daedric armor and yet choose to use ebony armor because it looks cooler, weighs less and the daedric armor doesn't "make sense" to me or my character or the setting of Skyrim in my mind.
@RojOdio Yes I agree with you on the second part man, that the daedric armor doesn't make sense to my character either because I'm not playing the game with evil intention.
@HeRcULesBlasTer dragon armor is acturally lighter than daedric, i'm pretty sure. that would be the only reason in using it over daedric, unless you just like how it looks but its lighter.
@PachydermSouthbound Lol, just by always looting anything, bodies, chests, jars, collecting bits and pieces of enchanted armor and selling it. I sell a looooot of junk. Plus I earned all that over the course of 150 hours of gameplay, so it's not easy to earn gold.
@zowbaid89 dont you spend your gold or something?haha,i killed this village of people,then i slept in a tent,and it saved,then i walked out of a the tent,and this black dragon attacks me...at night,and i cant get past it haha,thought ill share my skyrim fml story
@PachydermSouthbound I have 165k+ for my lvl 51 warrior and thats after some fairly large purchases. If you're an imperial you have a perk which allows you to find extra gold, other than that its just searching every urn/chest/cupboard/table you come across, selling high priced jewellery and other expensive items, doing shedloads of side quests and misc quests. If you're thorough and just keep searching and taking quests you can amass crazy money.
I wanted to make a thief with shock(destruction spell) in left hand and one handed weapon in right.
But, I also wanted it to be a fast character with stealth and agility who wears light armour...
Is that possible? If so, can you offer some advice on what I must do to achieve this character or offer help in anyway? Also, should this character be in the thief guild or what could his social status be?
@AvatarKris Its fairly easy to make a character like that. You should make a character (elf recommended) and immediatly start with the mix of destruction and one hand. If you want to use shock its oke but it doesnt really matter. also immidiatly join the thieves guild in riften. And work for them. they will give you a lot of experience in pickpocketing, lockpicking and sneaking. there are several guides on youtube about the thieves guild. any other questions?
@AvatarKris Yes I agree. Elves are great and so are Dark Elves. Anyway, just work on sneaking the whole time by crouching whenever in dungeons, and wear light armor and just keep working with your spells and swords. It's totally possible man. Also you can join any faction anytime. You can join the thieves guild to upgrade all those skills you want, then go to the Mages Guild in Winterhold and work on your destruction and get newer spells.
Also wanted to add that after you take quiet casting. You have to take master of the mind to make it work on undead daedra vampires and dwarf steam punk machines. The fire damage works on everything though. Or you could just take fire perk in enchanting tree get to 100 skill enchanting and duel enchant fear and stamina damage (Stamina is "fire" under skyrim). This results in a feared foe with no stamina to run as at 100 skill ench skill you'll do about a bajillion stam damage.
@AvatarKris Illusion. Buy the Muffle spell. Raise illusion to 50. Take Novice illusion perk, Hypnotic Gaze and aspect of terror. The last perk will puts fear into the perk formula. Which adds 10 to fire which has a fear component. This gives you 18 damage per second for fire. So screw shock. It also puts you 2 more perk trees to invisible casting and a few more skill points away from invis spell. Then put fear dagger in right hand. Slash once and burn.
At first, I wanted to be a battle mage, too, but now I use a shield. Conjure some flame atronarchs to distract ppl and to set them on fire for more damage. I do have the 5 points in armsman, and low level enemies die in 1 normal hit, but stronger ones like draugr death overlords resist 4 - 5 power attacks.
If your going for the Battlemage, Redgaurd and Breton would be best. Breton if your going to put more emphasis on your magic and Redgaurd if you are going to put more emphasis on your one handed.
This is good for those who don't want to focus on any Enchanting, but if you like enchanting it's a really good way to make money through the entire game and with 100 Enchanting you can make a set of whatever kind of armour or robes you want with "Destruction Spells cost less magicka to cost" enchantments. 4 pieces will give you 100% less cost (free) and you can cast over and over again all day. Your magicka bar doesn't even show up when you cast, and they all say 0 cost when looking at them.
@silvershot335 Yes you can do it with any of the schools of magic. Though I'm not sure I understand what you mean by way to get the enchanted armors. To get the free casting, you'd have to make the gear yourself using an enchanting skill of 100. To learn the enchantment in the first place, just check any general trader every so often to see if they've got any robes or jewelry with "Restoration spells cost less" but ONLY that. No extra Magicka regen or anything.
It varies, actually; its entirely possible to rely on getting a shitload of magicka, which really works if you want to cast a shit load of spells within the space of three seconds (or if you want to continuously cast Lightning Sotrm, which takes a ridiculous amount to hold down). It all depends on playing style. The heavy armor with magicka regen is probably the most efficient, but a proper archmage which can cast Lightning storm for all their 910 (960 for high elf) magicka is just plain badass.
Pick lightening as destruction perk.Augmented shock, augmented shock 60. Take shock as enchanting perk under enchanting. Enchant armor to reduce casting cost of destruction down to 0 or near zero. Enchant a really high shock sword it will take forever to drain. Or you could just smith up a normal sword that does massive damage.
And race does matter. Once again breton rules. Vampires with their drain health are useless against them. And as long as you have decent stamina and shock resistance....
I'd take 0% mana cost over mana regen anyday... I wear Archmage robes, and 3 jewelry each with - 28% mana cost for Conjouration / Destruction / Alteration etc... also once you get to that point, you three shot regular dragons... I've cast Lightning Storm for almost 2 minutes straight @ 3MP... most other spells are 0 cost... just spreading the info, maybe i'll make a vid someday haha good luck!!
@nomad82shuffler Race doesn't matter because you can make them all just as strong. However each race has different racial abilites. Nord is good they have 50% frost resist. But I like high elves too cuz they have 50 points extra magicka. Orc is also good for the beserker abiliity. It really doesn't matter which race you go with. But I think dark elves would be good because they do more damage with fire spells. So it's up to you
I used to think magicka regen was most important, then I realized reducing the cost of your destruction spells was more important. Stacking enchantments can allow you to use destruction spells for FREE. Even when you're talking about all spells, the regen stacked simply is too slow in combat when you're using high level spells.
@drayanair Nah, destruction sucks later on without enchantments. Even then higher level boss characters or just higher level characters resist like a motherfucker. I literally mauled all the opponents in my way with dwarven armor dual wield.
btw magicka regen doesnt increase magicka regen in combat... only out of combat.
magicka regen in combat is always 1/3 apparently, some ppl mentioned this on some forums... can you confirm or deny? please test in combat the magicka regen :(
I know that, but I like the look of Dragon armor, plus I wanted to use all those scales and bones I collected for something. I do have a daedric armor set though.
have you ever thought of applying enchantments that make your destruction cost no magicka? probably the best option as most of the destro perks are for reducing mana cost and then you don't have to bother with them. Also, even with magicka regen you have to wait small amounts of time for it to come back. If you want high speed destruction casts and don't want to worry about magicka at all its the way to go.
hahaha. I just collect a bunch of garbage, like weapons and armor I dont need and sell it. I also create jewelry with all the components I collect along the way and sell that too. I rarely buy anything. I'm always always selling stuff, it goes for a good couple hundred gold for most of the jewelry and 700 gold at least for the enchanted armor I collect from dungeons. Theres so much stuff to find and sell. :)
@zowbaid89 Yeah, today i got master destruction and they can only be cast with two hands sooo im duel weilding weapons and swithching to maser now and then.
I pretty much have the exact same character as you man it's a really enjoyable playstyle. I started off with a pure destruction high elf but once i got destruction to 100 i found that adding one handed weapons to the mix made the game incredibly fun.
Oh, that makes sense, by making all spells cost 100% less right? That's a good thing to try out, however my enchanting is pretty low and I'm actually trying to increase it to do that. Thanks for the tip!

Standard magicka is 100 points. Magicka regenerates on a percentage of roughly 3% normally.
Thus, having 200 points of magicka will regenerate the same amount of points as having 100 points of magicka with 100% faster regeneration.

I use heavy heavy armor and it helps alot

I used to think magicka regen was most important, then I realized reducing the cost of your destruction spells was more important. Stacking enchantments can allow you to use destruction spells for FREE. Even when you're talking about all spells, the regen stacked simply is too slow in combat when you're using high level spells.

@drayanair using alteration with robes works well too
Glord1118 3 months ago
@drayanair Nah, destruction sucks later on without enchantments. Even then higher level boss characters or just higher level characters resist like a motherfucker. I literally mauled all the opponents in my way with dwarven armor dual wield.

@drayanair use wards or alteration armor coating spells
202adr 2 months ago
@drayanair This is countered by the fact that various spells well make you take less damage as well as heal in the middle of combat.

btw magicka regen doesnt increase magicka regen in combat... only out of combat.
magicka regen in combat is always 1/3 apparently, some ppl mentioned this on some forums... can you confirm or deny? please test in combat the magicka regen :(

@xouric0
It is slower in combat, but it still is faster than if you had 0% regen. I could do a video of it and show you if you like.

dragon bone armour is not the best armour, daedric is better by quite a bit.

@Lynchdude1
I know that, but I like the look of Dragon armor, plus I wanted to use all those scales and bones I collected for something. I do have a daedric armor set though.

you get that mask from doing the College of Winterhold questline. The last quest to be exact, unless you call fighting Acarno a quest.

have you ever thought of applying enchantments that make your destruction cost no magicka? probably the best option as most of the destro perks are for reducing mana cost and then you don't have to bother with them. Also, even with magicka regen you have to wait small amounts of time for it to come back. If you want high speed destruction casts and don't want to worry about magicka at all its the way to go.

How the fuck did you get that much money?
JakeTomphson1 3 months ago
@JakeTomphson1

zowbaid89 3 months ago
@zowbaid89 Yeah, today i got master destruction and they can only be cast with two hands sooo im duel weilding weapons and swithching to maser now and then.
throbzdubstep 3 months ago
I pretty much have the exact same character as you man it's a really enjoyable playstyle. I started off with a pure destruction high elf but once i got destruction to 100 i found that adding one handed weapons to the mix made the game incredibly fun.

Ya I agree, Plus you can spam spells like flames, wall of flames etc and attack with the sword at the same time. It's really cool. :)

You can make all spells free w/ enchanting
Elderunlimited9 3 months ago
@Elderunlimited9
Oh, that makes sense, by making all spells cost 100% less right? That's a good thing to try out, however my enchanting is pretty low and I'm actually trying to increase it to do that. Thanks for the tip!
