  • you say it was your horse that was drugged- do you absolutely have records for that? You are turning a lot of people away from supporting a horse rescue that does their best for the horses. As a fosterer, adopter and volunteer, I have been working with DEFHR for 9 years. I have never seen any wrong doing on their part, and unless you have absolute proof, please think about what you are alleging against one of the only capable rescues in MD.

  • those auctions function, stay alive, and keep bringing in revenue. DEFHR doesn't feed into that vicious cycle for that reason amongst others. Think about what I said- I am so sorry that horses you cared about were put down- a lot of people understand what it is like to lose a horse, myself included. But you can't blame DEFHR for trying to make the world better for the other 99% of horses in their care. As for the drugging- do you have proof? Because that would worry me, if I had evidence.

  • @thacarter1023 I took pictures. I don't have to make things up to give DE a bad name, they do a pretty good job of that themselves. I'm just putting it all out there since DE doesn't. Well yes I suppose you have a point about the auctions, however DE also doesn't take horses in from there because they support the slaughter industry. I think on one of the websites I made it quotes a DE staff saying something like "sadly now that horse slaughter is banned" or something...it's on the site.

  • @legacylover2 They actually sedate a lot of horses...in that parade they had some horses were sedated for that also. If they did it before, they probably still do it. I wouldn't know since I don't go there anymore, but yeah it has happened at least twice that I know of.

  • The owner/company that sponsors and runs the auction gets a portion of all proceeds, thus allowing more and more horses to filter in as their auction house that feeds horses to killbuyers stays in business. Many rescues do not support or 'horse shop' for their rescue horses from auctions for this reason. Camelot? scam. One person gets the proceeds from this auction and they are filthy rich. People who get their horses from here feed into their bullshit. You have to understand that this is how

  • BEFORE all of the events you point out even occured. Coincidence? I think not. If what you are saying about DEFHR was true, my horse would have been euthanized IMMEDIATELY. How can you figure that one? I don't mean to be rude, but what you are saying about DEFHR and keeping these videos up to prove a point is ridiculous. With my own experience with my brat of a horse, I completely disagree. And the auction concept is completely different as well. I assume you don't know how auctions work...

  • I don't agree. While you do make good points, you are still thinking about the most optimistic, happy go lucky half-options. by this I mean that you aren't thinking through the whole process. DEFHR probably didn't get $ from mountain/gatsby etc, but they also never got money from the horse that I adopted. She had a bucking problem, and nobody there rode her. She was a pasture ornament. How could they get money from her? But she was still there at the rescue for 3 years. (2004-2007)

  • @thacarter1023 What? DE has nothing to do with auctions- they only deal with animal control. I don't see the relevance. As for your horse, my horse was also at DE for like...8 years? or close to that. She was adopted/returned 4 times. DE reassured me that my horse wouldn't have been put down because of her "personality" but they lied before. I can't believe anything they say. Like I said after these ~11 horses were put down, I don't think they put down any more horses for stupid reasons.

  • @thacarter1023 When you adopted your horse, DE had space and could take in more thus allowing them to get more money, so in a way your horse did indirectly put cash in DE's pocket.........I can't take down the videos, if that's what you're trying to get me to do.

  • @thacarter1023 I volunteered at DE since I was 10, I'm 18 now. I fostered Legacy until she died and adopted Eve. I made videos supporting DE for a while- some were even featured on their website. So I wouldn't lie and "slander" them as some accuse me of doing. I genuinely loved DE until I realized what messed up stuff they were doing. The Maggie, Marbles, etc. incident was so bad I couldn't understand why even after they tried to explain to me it wasn't right. Then after I....

  • @thacarter1023 got the rest of the story from Maggie's adopters, I found out DE wasn't really that great. Then the Mountain &Gatsby killing really pissed me off. Deliberately denying the horses a chance to live when transport &another rescue was willing to take them. DE isn't the only rescue. I've known 2 others- one of which did exactly the same thing DE did and both were corrupt. It's sad that horses aren't the first priority in most rescues anymore. I'm kind of done with rescues in general.

  • This video is bullshit. I have fostered, adopted and volunteered at DEFHR. They do not euthanize for no reason. There had to have been a reason for euthanizing Maggie, Gatsby and the others. I do not support horse slaughter and wouldn't DARE support a rescue that supports euthanasia without reason. The facts that 'our maggie' provides are one sided. DEFHR is a great place and works to rehab these horses. So, out of approx. 1500 horses, 3 were euthanized FOR A REASON. Get past the superficial.

  • @thacarter1023 I fostered, adopted and volunteered at DE too. Our sources for this video include DE staff as well as Maggie's adopters and Mountain and Gatsby's potential adopters. When Maggie was put down, it was a shock to me bc DE told me they wouldn't do that to her without evaluating her. They never evaluated her. She was put down for being dangerous and being a liability, but how do they even know she was dangerous if they didn't give her a chance? I did not support what DE did there so...

  • @thacarter1023 ....I took my horse and left. If DE had been honest from the beginning and not lied to me saying they would give Maggie a chance, I wouldn't have made these videos most likely. I would've been upset, but if they had told the truth to everyone (not just me) there wouldn't be anything to expose. Mountain and Gatsby is a whole other story. They were put down for space and age. People wanted to adopt them, but DE did not let them go. I wasn't a DE volunteer when they died, but....

  • @thacarter1023 I tried to find them a home. DE didn't want to send them out of state to an adopter, they euthanized them instead. They made up a bunch of BS about Mountain & Gatsby saying they were sick/diseased/etc. It was all bullshit. Show me the vet records that prove any of that. There are none, which is probably why one day the DE website said Mt or Gatsby had a severe back issue, then the next day that part was removed from their website. That pissed me off. DE is a sketchy rescue.

  • @thacarter1023 If you want to learn more about Maggie and Mountain & Gatsby, head on over to the DEFHR youtube channel and comment asking about them. 20 bucks says your comment is deleted and never responded to.

  • @legacylover2 I could agree with what you are saying about Maggie...maybe more should have been done if I actually (and you actually) knew what happened from DEFHRs side. For Mountain and Gatsby- it's a sad truth that they were put down for space and age, as you said. but think about it a different way. Senior horses need different care that people probably couldn't provide for them. As for people wanting to adopt them from out of state...would you, as a rescue, want to adopt out of state? THIS

  • @thacarter1023 It wasn't just an adopter that wanted to take Mountain and Gatsby...it was another legitimate rescue- one with more experience than Days End. It's sad how another rescue has to rescue horses from being put down. I guess DE thought they would look bad if another rescue took in their horses. There were a couple other adopters from out of state that wanted Mountain and Gatsby, but DE denied them all. But as you were saying.....

  • @thacarter1023 ...if it was my rescue and I had to choose between putting two horses down or sending them out of state, I'd choose the latter. If I knew the adopter was legit and qualified then a few emails or phone calls of updates on the horses would suffice. Especially since it was another rescue with years and years of experience. They would definitely have been the perfect retirement home. DE is obligated to take care of each horse in their care. Did you know that DE receives money from....

  • @thacarter1023 animal control to take in new horses? However they don't receive any money for the horses they already have in their care. So they were not getting money from Mountain and Gatsby. Why not put Mountain &Gatsby down then get money from the new incoming horses? They only take in from animal control. They've never ever rescued a horse from an auction or taken in owner surrenders....because they don't get more money that way. It's all about money nowadays with the majority of rescues.

  • @legacylover2 is how horses end up in rescues in the FIRST PLACE. I completely 100% agree with not adopting out of state. Checkups/evaluations after the fact must be able to be done. Out of state, this is not an option for horse rescues with limited resources. I don't agree with putting down old horses because they take up space...but this is a horse rescue. Again, out of 1500 horses, they put down ones that cannot be adopted to make room. It is awful- but they were HUMANELY euthanized. I don't

  • @legacylover2 expect you to change your opinion, but what about all of the good DEFHR has done for the other 99% of horses that do end up there? You can't call DEFHR a slaughterhouse or a kill rescue. What about the other animal shelters (dogs cats) near you that kill every WEEK? DEFHR doesn't follow that policy because they actually do take the time to focus their resources on training and rehabbing, they do not kill just any horse. I don't expect to change your mind, but you can't possibly

  • @thacarter1023 That's what everyone keeps telling me. "What about all the good they do?" I remember one time at the spring carnival, DE didn't have any horses to use for pony rides so they sedated a few horses and put kids on their backs and raised money that way. One of the sedated horses was mine. Is that good? It's a corrupt organization. Everyone knows shelters put down their animals. DE is a rescue, not a shelter. They shouldn't put down their horses for space unless...

  • @thacarter1023 there is an actual reason---an actual reason not "Oh this pony might be dangerous" or "these horses are just taking up space". I don't think DE has killed any horse for no reason in the past couple years because of what happened with Maggie, Mountain, Marbles, etc. They know they can't get away with it again because they barely got away with it the first time. This is why I keep the videos up to make sure what happened in 2008-2009 never ever happens again.

  • @legacylover2 think of DEFHR as a kill rescue/slaughterhouse etc. It isn't right.

  • My heart is broken to see these horses destroyed. I have 4 Quarter Horses and 2 miniatures. I cannot imagine what I would do if something like that happen to them. My DIL try to convince my g-daughters Sunday Morning was crazy. Guess what? We put a saddle on her with a bit and she is the best ride. Her brother is just as gentle. Why? Because they are pets not product! Product is what these so call rescuers think. WRONG! These horses are loved. Thank you for your video and I have subscribed.

  • I really like this video. It gets the message across very well and it has a special emotional appeal to it that makes me both angry and sad. It's probably the best movie out of the bunch. Nice job.

  • you should send that to them

  • first of all, WHAT THE HECK IS days end??? second, i am sorry for your loss, third, i partly get it and partly not. days end was a rescue??? if they are it makes no sense why they would kill innocent horses because they were too old, or whatever. and these days end people sound kind of scary, DAYS END?? what is that like "when you come here your day will end?" it is a horrible name!

  • Sorry, meant to say in my first comment that international viewers can't hear the songs. Been disabled apparently by Sony music. Some ridiculous copyright breach. Bet if I listened to the radio long enough I'd hear them anyway. The idiots!!

  • This reminds me a lot of the RSPCA (that "protects" animals in Wales and England). They kill hundreds of healthy, adoptable animals every single year. For reasons you cited in your video. Too old, too dangerous, blah, blah, blah!! Seems like a song many "rescue" organizations sing. R.I.P. Poor, sweet and innocent horses.

  • Days End made the horses Days End HOW COULD THY BE SO MEAN!?! BUY SPACE!

  • euthanasia and slaughter are two VERY different things, honey

  • Those horses were adoptable and it was way more than 3, honey. Try 15 innocent horses. Most of which were under 10 years old. Days End is supposed to be a rescue NOT a shelter. Big difference. The rescue I work with currently has 100 and yet they don't euthanize for space.

  • I HATE DAYS END SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!! They have NO right to put those innocent horses to sleep. When I grow up, I'm going to be an Equine Vet and an Animal Cop and I am also going to open a horse rescue to rescue as many horses as I possibly can. Days End should have their freaking days ended!!! I agree with you 100%, legacylover2.

  • Rocca broke her cannon bone and that was partially Days End's fault. It was pouring down rain and they put Rocca on rubber mats in that little paddock they had at the old farm. Not the best idea IMO. There's no vet records to support any of the problems Mountain "had". DE also said he had a list of other health issues, at one point they said he had some type of disease, but then they took that statement off their website.

  • Since you don't believe me, ASK Days End why they killed Maggie- or better yet Email them!! I bet my life they won't reply!!! & if they do they won't give you a straight answer!!

  • PS If you think those horses "had" to be put down, you are incredibly misinformed my friend...and you have a lot to learn. I suggest starting with our many websites and reading them thoroughly. Good luck :)

  • Hey I have to ask you, if you're mother was shot in the head, a quick and ultimately painless death, would you be saying "Oh, well at least she died a humane death." Unless you don't give a flying, I'd say you'd be pretty upset and distraught, am I right? Same thing applies here, except these horses weren't your personal horses, therefore you probably don't give a crap about what happened to them. Continued...

  • Figuratively speaking, your mother or whoever you want to call it, is "dead". Do you care how she died? She's still dead right, so does it matter how she died? You could use her painless death to make yourself feel better, like "at least she didn't suffer". But she's still not coming back. Same thing still applies here. Maggie had a family too (see her website) and trust me, her family wasn't saying "Oh, at least she died a humane death." Point is the pony's dead when she didn't have to be.

  • oh god i was going to work there o sundays but i wanted to look around about other people said first oh my god

  • oh god i was going to work there on Sundays they really pro slaughter

  • Yeah they're pro slaughter. They've never ever taken in any horses from auctions, they're endorsed by pro-slaughter organizations and they talk about the necessity of horse slaughter whenever they get a chance. :(

  • i will try to help

  • how could they do this to these poor horses.

  • i used to volenteer at DEFHR. like i spent more time there than i ever did at home. i had over 1300 hrs. Then i stopped going, b/c they ALL took advantage of me. It was ridculous. This makes me very upset and i plan on going in and talking to them about it and showing them this video. If this is fake i will find out. I knew Maggie, Mountain, Gatsby, and marbles very well. I was even there the day that Mountain came in. (and i also loved Legacy very much) This angers me very muvh. :(

  • yeah it pissed me off too. Glad you knew the horses so you know darn well they weren't dangerous and shit like Days End keeps telling people. I made a website for Maggie that displays her entire story- the true story DEFHR doesn't want people to know. I'll put the link in the description so you can see. It's really sad, especially Mountain & Gatsby's story, I'm debating which scenario was more devastating Mountain & G-man's or Maggie's. It's a toss up.

  • OH- And if you do talk to the DEFHR people tell them I said "Hey" and tell them I look forward to seeing them at the horse expo hahahaa I don't work with DE anymore, I decided to go with the no-kill rescue instead :)

  • Haha lol =)

    It was cool...

I saw the obese Donkey =(

    remember, ILY,

    X

  • lol! did they tell you about the horses they killed for no reason? I used to volunteer there & saved my horsey from there. She did not like it at that place.

  • Noo... they didn't =(

    I was a voulenteer tho..

It was cute... We mucked out

the pony paddock.... I can't believe dat.

:((((( Not going back there again =)

    Remember, ILY,

    X

  • lol figures. Yeah I volunteered there too a while back... I volunteer at a new rescue now. They're freakin awesome.

  • Good (=

    ~X

  • Ehmagawd, I just realized that I went to Days End for a field trip when i was at Camp... THAT IS SOOOOO WEIIRD. :)

    Remember ILY,

    X

  • Hey thx for signing Maggie's guestbook! I haven't been able to send you an email yet! But I will! :D

  • They're in a better place..this world is so messed up...I know that sounds mean but..I don't even wanna live in this world any more..I love all horses and hate seeing them suffer..just call would of saved those beautiful lives and these so called "horse lovers" put them down like it was nothing.R.I.P all you pretty horses and ponies :).I own a old horse his name is Last chance and I made a promise to keep him in till the end of his days..God bless you your a nice person

  • Thanks yeah they are in a MUCHHH better place now than that POS place they call a horse "rescue". Those deaths were completely unnecessary and irresponsible. It's amazing those people think we're "overreacting" because they killed 12+ otherwise healthy horses in a few months. Most of which had escape routes outta that place. lol. Thanks for your comment :D

  • I know what you mean and your very welcome!!

  • Wow how dare Days End! Even if they were a little dangerous someone could have made them pasture pals! Like how they do with mustangs. They live in a Pasture and run wild. That's sad that they could do that!

  • i got a horse from days end farm. yani.. a TB mare. i hope she got re-adopted. i was like 5 when i got her and she kept buckin my mom off so i couldnt ride her. and they took her back. yaniii <3

  • every animal in this world deserves a second chance...

  • hate to brake it 2 u but the 2 old 1's had problems and would suffer if they didnt put them down. I adopted urban from them and loved them.

  • You've been horribly misinformed my friend. I adopted Eve from them and I hated them. XD PS Those "old 1's" have names- Mountain and Gatsby. Respect the dead thank you.

  • And "brake" is something you do on a bicycle.

  • PPS read the description for the facts.

  • This made me cry and that's a hard thing to do!

    These people make me sick

  • This is so sad :(

I think you probably know about the animal rescue site that has the voting for giving a shelter money, and Days End is #1 in Maryland #2 overall. Its so sad, a better rescue (like Horsenet) should get the money

  • Oh I know :( But I can use that to my advantage- They have gotten THOUSANDS of people to vote for them. They are doing absolutely everything they can to get their dirty paws on that ca$h. They are posting EVERYWHERE, high & low.... What did they do to get Mountain and Gatsby adopted?*nothing*. They are doing everything they can to win that contest, but they did absolutely nothing to get those 2 horses a home. Maybe if Mountain and Gatsby were two $10,000 bills they'd be alive today.

  • Gotta love irony.... :)

  • Yeah they were very healthy. Since it's Days End (operating for 20 years, 501c3 nonprofit, known everywhere), everyone thinks that Days End always has the facts and legitimate reasons for doing... whatever it is they do. Mountain and Gatsby... they had no legitimate reason. They told me last August Mountain and Gatsby would die because they were old and virtually unadoptable (I have it in writing from them). They even went into detail about how they are sweet and kind but... (continued...)

  • no one wanted them. That's why they were to die. NO WHERE did they EVER mention they had any "back disorders, fear issues"... NEVER. I've known those horses for years they had NO behavioral issues or ANYTHING. Then 1 week before they kill those horses they say they have "fear issues, behavioral issues, back issues, feet issues" whatever health issue there is~ Mountain and Gatsby had it. NOT TRUE. They never got a vet to exam them, they have no proof those horses were crippled (continued...)

  • It just made me so mad ya know? It's like they wanted to euthanize these horses *WINK*WINK* because they didn't want to have to deal with them. They had no problems. All that crap they posted about these two horses on their website was just not true. It's like Days End doesn't understand how to respect the dead! Even after Maggie is dead, they still say she's a monster. *sigh*

  • their choice to euthanize completely healthy horses for being "old" is not only irresponsible, but it makes other more reputable rescues look bad. You can read the description of this video too, it answers some FAQ. :)

  • Hi. Nope. I was a volunteer at Days End for 7-8 years and just adopted one of their horses (before they started euthing them). Mountain and Gatsby had a place to go in Iowa, Montana, and various other farms, but Days End would not respond to the offers of help.... until it was too late. Those horses were VERY healthy. Days End posted on their website how they had "back disorders" and what not. They never got a vet to exam those horses so they have NO proof those horses had any (continued....)

  • health issues. Days End has the space, funds AND volunteers to care for two elderly horses. But they did not want to send them to another home. One of the rescues that wanted to take in Mountain and Gatsby was the 2nd longest running rescue in the USA. Highly reputable. All Days End needed to do was a simple rescue transfer. Then those 2 horses would be living and Days End would have gotten lots of donations/publicity for their compassionate actions. However they LOST donors because (continued)

  • Nice video Juli. I wish it was not true. I cannot believe they killed Mountain and Gatsby. When will they every we stopped? this is ridiculous!!!

  • So what is their problem??? These horses could have lived with no problem. Thats pretty messed up to kill a perfectly good horse...

  • So sad. Thankyou for opening eyes. Rip innocent angels xx

  • This is awful! How could they kill them when there was no real reason too?! It's not like they were in pain and had no chance! They could have had loving homes! Being old is not an excuse to euthanize them, and if a horse is "dangerous" that can be worked on with training, they don't have to kill them ='(

Thank you for making this video and getting the message out there.

  • Omg Juli I have tears in my eyes, all this perfect, loved, beautiful animals all being killed for a pitifull reason as BEING OLD?! Shame on you Days End! This really has to stop, You really are an amazing, compassionate, caring person Juli, and everyone else who tried to help these poor horses, Thank you for showing people this and spreading this horrible act.

What kind people rescue horse for them just to be euthanized anyway?

    Fantastic video.

  • You did an AWESOME job on this video Juli!!

    I LOVE IT!

    shame to Days End!

  • DEFHR has no idea what they just did to themselves.

  • Wow. That's extremely disturbing. Congratulations Days End! The most prideful and selfish killing rescue in America!!!!!!

  • RIP, Mountain and Gatsby. You deserved so much better than this. Humans let you down but we tried to help. The FOBs will never forget you.

    Mary in MD

  • Days End sold out a long time ago just look at there profit records. Rumor is there moving more horses to that route.

  • Even if these poor horses were unhealthy, as some suggest, they had someone willing to adopt them. I have adopted and "elderly" dog, knowing full well what she and I are in for. There is NO EXCUSE for the destruction of these horses. Days End. A name to remember and discuss among my friends here in Canada who know what a "rescue" truly is. Shame!

  • That's horrible!

Rescues are suppost to help horses...it's especially awful because people offered to take them in and they ignored them!

  • this is so sad :(

  • THIS NEEDS TO BE STOPPED NOW!!! Days End YOUR A BAD RESCUE!!!! Grrr!

  • thats horrible! oh my gosh!!! who ever did that are idiots!! thats terrible!

    amazing video, 5* and faved!

    RIP Days End horses:(

  • oh my goodness :|:(

CAN YOu not report days end to a animal crultey chairty ?!

did they do it to legacy too :-o :(

i need to cry i htikn

  • Well a lot of organizations know about it already, we're just trying to spread the word about what they're doing. I hope they didn't do the same thing to Legacy!

  • This is horribly wrong.

    and Sad.

This needs to be stopped and shut this place down. It angers me.

  • I find what days end does sick and cruel thats not right these horses deserved better
