i love my banjo thanks to you i was on here 1 day just looking up things see u look at 3 or4 of your videos next day went out got a banjo now play every day :) thanks buddy keep the videos coming
I've had a banjo hanging on my wall for a year. Couldn't understand the dvd, so I gave up. Watched this and played a tune right away. Not professional, but it felt good! Thank you!
@vkirkman That's really what's supposed to happen. You're supposed to feel good playin' the banjo. It's not an instrument of torture, at least it's not supposed to be...
You have a great perspective. Scruggs style is HARD and has made this the hardest instrument I have tried to learn. I started fiddle and banjo at the same time and can play around 25 songs on fiddle and 3 songs on banjo. Foggy Mountain Breakdown took months! Your advice will encourage a lot of people.
As a beginner I appreciate this (and your other videos) very much! I picked up a banjo a year or so ago and bought "Earl Scruggs and the 5-String Banjo" thinking, oh he's supposedly the best. Reading it has helped some, but watching people play scruggs-style on youtube is very discouraging because I don't even hear the melody to make sense of it. Anyway I started playing clawhammer on the uke, which is what led me to get a banjo in the first place. Thanks for making me love the banjo again!
I agree completely, Mr Peek. I started by learning clawhammer and then I moved on to finger-picking but when I'm just toolin' around I find myself always frailing because it's just a more way to pick out a tune. I hope it comes back as a popular musical style.
thank you so much for posting this video, for years i thought the banjo was hard to play, but after seeing this i will try to find one that i can aford and will learn to play. thanks again.
@banjobubby That's the Dynaflow banjo. Made it out of a part that came out of the torque converter on a Dynaflow transmission, the same one that was originally in my roadster, tied to the back of that 1953 Cadillac motor. Yea, I made it, me and General Motors.. hahaha.
@727JeffN I'd have to learn music then.. I don't know nothin' about music. Which just proves another point. You don't have to know a thing about music to play banjo.. haha.
Ok, quit being lazy and fix that nut. That capo is driving me crazy and it needs to go.
'Course, I really don't care ;) Banjo has facinated me for years but I'm missing the end of my left hand ring finger. I play bass and it doesn't matter if you have that fingertip. Most bass tab doesn't even include the ring finger, just 1, 2, & 4. But for guitar and banjo you kinda need it :P
I play Scruggs style because I'm missing the tip of my left middle finger. I play lefty and wear the finger picks on my left hand, I don't think I could play claw hammer with my stubby finger. But I do agree with what you are saying.
@golgothagarage you dont have to play with your middle finger hitting the strings you can use the index finger. i also play scruggs style and it is hard to get. i have been trying for 17 years but i love my banjo and i love playing it even if i dont know alot of songs.
I play 3 finger style and I know what you're talking about. Melody wise some tabs are better than others, I've been playing the song Wabash Cannonball for a couple of years now and I still haven't figured out how to fit the lyrics in, it sounds like the song but somewhere in the middle the melody sorta fades away. And yes most songs unless played "up to speed" don't sound like much.
Not mad, Just elated that you'll teach for free! Thanks! I've "inhereted" (given to) an old 5-string Sears banjo with resonator. It needs strings, etc. but it's really loud.
What happened to the guy on #1? I think he got replaced, though the second guy is wearing the same hat, but a different banjo and glasses. I got totally confused and started playing Scruggs style on my guitar...:)
why would anyone be mad? scruggs style as great as it is seems impossible to me and it is why ive never touched a banjo. im glad you made the playlist, i might be pickin up a banjo now.
Is that the tranny banny ?

@idezilla Cool.. First thing, take the resonator off. You don't need it and you'll like it better without it. Good luck playin.
