I'm not an anime fan particularly, but I have seen a few, and I always wonder something: In things like this (or sky crawlers, or similar), the airplanes and buildings and cars and such are 3D, very well drawn, have smooth animations, shading, etc, yet the people are simple 2D drawings running at like 1/2 the framerate. Maybe its a style thing I'm just not getting, but it feels like the characters are out of place, hastily drawn because the artist doesnt like drawing people or something.

AND, Robotech is just a mix-mash of anime series edited together by Americans to create the Robotech saga, which IMO shouldn't even be considered anime.
Gundam touched more on war-themes while Macross more on conflict and songs.

They need to re-release this --- after they've corrected the dang color bands on the missiles. Coloring them BLUE is what happens when you base your animation scheme on looking at publicity photos where the aircraft are carrying TRAINING / CAPTIVE CARRY missiles which DON'T FIRE.

@CaptainGaruda no t is not you, F 14 is not a dog fight air craft. In reality F 14 is more a ranged interceptor (mainly ballistic missiles). But when it comes to having the best looks for mecha series, can you find any other plane closer to a mecha than the F 14 Tom Cat?

@exPOnEntial7 the Differences between the VF-0 and VF-1 are very simple. They are exactly the same mechanically except the VF-1 uses nuclear reactor engines while the VF-0 is still using turbo fan engines.This allows the VF-1 to operate in space where the VF-0 is limited to atmosphere only.

@lordazn maybe the gun pod wont destroy the x-wing bit it might damage it. the VF may not even need to shoot its gun pod seeing as how the "latest" models carry some sort of beam cannon and definitely stronger head lasers than the "early" models and lets not forget that weird ass glowing knife or punch they use in close quarters
I also wouldn't underestimate its maneuverability which im pretty sure is better than an x-wings seeing as how it can transform ridiculously fast in mid flight and all
Space: Assuming the X-Wing have maneuvering jets (like the Vipers of BSG had), then they may be evenly matched. The shields on the X-Wing are more formidable than the pin-point barrier system of the VF-25. It would be close.
Atmosphere: The X-Wing is not as maneuverable as the VF here and is extremely vulnerable. The shields would save it most of the time, while the VF-25 flew circles around it. The VF-171 is almost as bad in atmosphere.
@Seirra54 Hmm, I've never really heard anyone mention X-Wings having verniers before(nice reference by the way). i suppose it isn't impossible though. I agree regarding shields, the pinpoint system looks like it needs to be turned on by the pilots when they need it unlike the x-wings which seem to be on all the time (unless they're knocked out)

@WOLFxLORD I meant it as the 171 handles terribly in Atmosphere (look on wiki or some other reference website). Anyways on the subject of pilots, it would have to be Skull Squadron (of SMS) vs. Rouge Squadron (from the book series Rogue Squadron). They should do something like Deadliest Warrior for that... Except don't use those guys from Spike. Can't watch that show after they said a grenade with a bigger boom is deadlier than a grenade with more shrapnel.
@jonascheah: A single laser blast would blow up a crappy Valkyrie. X-Wings have shields and none of the VF-0's weapons would have any effect on an x-wings shields. An X-Wing can put power into its forward repulsers, swinging it around and allowing it to nail that bitch at 4:42. Just one laser would turn that piece of garbage into flying pink shrapnel.
@Iffy350 Every time I see an an Xwing take a hit, it either explodes or goes flipping through space out of control. Those "shields" you refer to are made to deflect coherent light; lasers. VF0/VF1 has that, but it also has kinetic energy weapons; "guns-up". Not to mention radar/IR guided missiles.
When this thing flips into a mech in your face, VIFFs above you, and sends solid slugs ripping through your hull, you'll finally understand the advantage of variable geometry fighters.
@Iffy350 That is what I was thinking. Anyways, the VF-0 is a prototype. Against an X-wing, a VF-25 would be used. It would be a very close fight, it would depend alot on the skill of the pilot. Both have their own edge. The VF-25 is way more maneuverable and has shields like the X-wing. The X-wing has a weapon that is good, but not may not stop the VF in one hit.
@Iffy350 A VF-0 may not stand a chance, but a VF-25 would. The X-wind could not maneuver as well as an of the Valkyries. A pin-point barrier (the type of shields they use for the VFs), can take multiple shots and can recover quicker than the sheilds of the X-wing. Anyways, the fighter in this vid is a prototype. If you used any of the newer models, the X-wing would be in trouble. The X-wing can take many hits, while the VF can avoid and dodge the shots and later can take many hits and survive.
@Iffy350 You fail physics forever. A laser works by heating up something until it melts or combusts. If the fighter is made of a heat resistant material, the laser would be ineffective. Besides, the blasters from Star Wars behave more like charged particle beams, which are like bullets made of charged particles such as plasma that can travel at close to but not quite the speed of light and therefore have hell'o kinetic force. However, they can be easily nulified by em fields and diffuse over
extreme distances. Kinetic weapons on the other hand do not have that limitation. Any projectile traveling at a speed of 3 km/s will impact with the force of it's weight in TNT and they cannot be easily repelled. Nothing less than armor 10 miles thick or wall made of superheated plasmas held in place by powerful electromagnetic fields would even have a chance of deferring them.
@hyperdude144 Because those F-14's were not made with the same tech as the Variable Fighters, the VF-0 which looks like an F-14, has the technology to transform it.
Well, He has no chance to begin with. Insane amount of homing missiles unaffected by the flares. Extreme speed and mobility. Not to mention it has a crazily powerfull gun and armor. + We can't exclude it's transformation abilities. It drastically changes the machine's airframe thus allows rapid speed decreases/rearanging thrusters. It's a hell to any of the present fighters.

@jackie901 Yeah sorry I did come off a little harsh,but I was enjoying the entire thing as it was. Thinking it was just a show with alot of realistic dogfighting. The robot just flipped the script on me and I was upset lol.

Good scene, too bad about the incredibly bad music, the original Macross TV series had such great music, the composer for Macross Zero used music samples from Starship Troopers and The Mummy in the scene above.

@lordazn maybe the gun pod wont destroy the x-wing bit it might damage it. the VF may not even need to shoot its gun pod seeing as how the "latest" models carry some sort of beam cannon and definitely stronger head lasers than the "early" models and lets not forget that weird ass glowing knife or punch they use in close quarters
I also wouldn't underestimate its maneuverability which im pretty sure is better than an x-wings seeing as how it can transform ridiculously fast in mid flight and all

Space: Assuming the X-Wing have maneuvering jets (like the Vipers of BSG had), then they may be evenly matched. The shields on the X-Wing are more formidable than the pin-point barrier system of the VF-25. It would be close.
Atmosphere: The X-Wing is not as maneuverable as the VF here and is extremely vulnerable. The shields would save it most of the time, while the VF-25 flew circles around it. The VF-171 is almost as bad in atmosphere.

@Seirra54 Hmm, I've never really heard anyone mention X-Wings having verniers before(nice reference by the way). i suppose it isn't impossible though. I agree regarding shields, the pinpoint system looks like it needs to be turned on by the pilots when they need it unlike the x-wings which seem to be on all the time (unless they're knocked out)
the 171 is most likely not as bad is it might seem, the bird itself is probably decent but its those shitty NUN pilots that completely butcher it

@WOLFxLORD I meant it as the 171 handles terribly in Atmosphere (look on wiki or some other reference website). Anyways on the subject of pilots, it would have to be Skull Squadron (of SMS) vs. Rouge Squadron (from the book series Rogue Squadron). They should do something like Deadliest Warrior for that... Except don't use those guys from Spike. Can't watch that show after they said a grenade with a bigger boom is deadlier than a grenade with more shrapnel.

@jonascheah: A single laser blast would blow up a crappy Valkyrie. X-Wings have shields and none of the VF-0's weapons would have any effect on an x-wings shields. An X-Wing can put power into its forward repulsers, swinging it around and allowing it to nail that bitch at 4:42. Just one laser would turn that piece of garbage into flying pink shrapnel.

@Iffy350 Every time I see an an Xwing take a hit, it either explodes or goes flipping through space out of control. Those "shields" you refer to are made to deflect coherent light; lasers. VF0/VF1 has that, but it also has kinetic energy weapons; "guns-up". Not to mention radar/IR guided missiles.
When this thing flips into a mech in your face, VIFFs above you, and sends solid slugs ripping through your hull, you'll finally understand the advantage of variable geometry fighters.

@Iffy350 That is what I was thinking. Anyways, the VF-0 is a prototype. Against an X-wing, a VF-25 would be used. It would be a very close fight, it would depend alot on the skill of the pilot. Both have their own edge. The VF-25 is way more maneuverable and has shields like the X-wing. The X-wing has a weapon that is good, but not may not stop the VF in one hit.

@Iffy350 A VF-0 may not stand a chance, but a VF-25 would. The X-wind could not maneuver as well as an of the Valkyries. A pin-point barrier (the type of shields they use for the VFs), can take multiple shots and can recover quicker than the sheilds of the X-wing. Anyways, the fighter in this vid is a prototype. If you used any of the newer models, the X-wing would be in trouble. The X-wing can take many hits, while the VF can avoid and dodge the shots and later can take many hits and survive.

@Iffy350 You fail physics forever. A laser works by heating up something until it melts or combusts. If the fighter is made of a heat resistant material, the laser would be ineffective. Besides, the blasters from Star Wars behave more like charged particle beams, which are like bullets made of charged particles such as plasma that can travel at close to but not quite the speed of light and therefore have hell'o kinetic force. However, they can be easily nulified by em fields and diffuse over

extreme distances. Kinetic weapons on the other hand do not have that limitation. Any projectile traveling at a speed of 3 km/s will impact with the force of it's weight in TNT and they cannot be easily repelled. Nothing less than armor 10 miles thick or wall made of superheated plasmas held in place by powerful electromagnetic fields would even have a chance of deferring them.

early on they used the F-14, then the variable technology arose and developed the VF-1 which looks like an F14 but it's variable.

Well, He has no chance to begin with. Insane amount of homing missiles unaffected by the flares. Extreme speed and mobility. Not to mention it has a crazily powerfull gun and armor. + We can't exclude it's transformation abilities. It drastically changes the machine's airframe thus allows rapid speed decreases/rearanging thrusters. It's a hell to any of the present fighters.
