  • This may sound dumb but what is this about?

  • the song lyrics r in hindi

"radhe radhe shyam bolo radhe radhe"

it means "say radhe shyam" which is some hindu's god i think

  • i'm so confused..

  • Is that guy Slyfox?

  • This is really good!!!

    Keep going!!

  • I really see myself in Maneesh...

  • moreeeee

  • anyway.... Thanks, Smokey!

  • PScott, this was awesome, love and respect for your team from Pakistan!

  • @harrisbinkhurram :) Thank you!

  • Please could you add czech subtitles?

  • Ahoj, Foolercze. There have been requests to translate "Maneesh" into several languages but we haven't had time. If you or anyone else would like to go ahead, you have my blessings.

I like to think though that all of the films I write/direct can be understood by watching people's physical behavior.

At least, that is a goal.

    Anyway, thanks for commenting--

    Patrick

  • @ZoochosisCom yeah can see the message in the acting/directing, again thumbs up on your talent

  • sumwat a schizoid type of personality. am i ryt??

  • Great short film, but I wanted to smack some sense into Maneesh for running away from a beautiful woman who obviously loves him out of fear of the unknown. Very sad how often this happens in real life =T_T=

  • This is unexpectedly beautiful

  • i literaly wanna go cut myself now

  • lyrics are rate rate rateeeee rate rateeee

  • Beautiful film showing how fear can destroy the potential for happiness. Hope to see more like it.

  • i need subtitles!

  • He tried jumping the entrance and he hit his leg. I assume that's why he is limping

  • I cried at the end.

  • Hey, Maleesh, her friends are just treating you as one of them. They seem to act that informal way with everyone. The difference and non aproval is in your head only. The lack of confidence is a problem you have to solve. IMHO. Good video, guys.

  • seriosuly what the frig? so many unanswered questions

  • She was pregnant and he didnt like her cat Jesus.

  • Indian Dan Bejar!

  • no entendi nada u.u

  • what's that chanting song? or at least give the lyrics

  • @TheEL337dude The music was sung by the women in the yoga room and led by Travis, an actual Yoga teacher in West Los Angeles. Travis is not an actor and not at all Hollywood but I'm sure he'd be flattered by any compliments you'd like to pass along. He's a really beautiful singer and harmonium player.

  • @TheEL337dude The chant has three words "Radhe Radhe Shyam". Its sung in a lot of variations. You can just youtube the three words and you can find a lot of video regarding the song.

  • After viewing some of your other films, I kept waiting for the punchline on this, which I think made it even more poignant when there wasn't one. I had to rewatch it two or three times in various new perspectives. Really love the choice of music for the stair climb, it creates a very specific, interesting mood.

  • @Lizbeast Thanks, Liz! Glad you weren't disappointed in the lack of a punchline. We'll be releases these every now and then, less overtly comedic films, and it's good to read positive responses like yours and the others because it tells me that the audience does exist for a little bit of tonal variety.

  • Very nice!

  • that made me sad :(

  • @MrBignick214 that made me sad because I realize now I have just lost 10 minutes of my life...

  • [continued] Oh and the cat? She loves him, though he's also furry and can't swim.

  • [continued] At the entrance "I don't want to be part of this", that alienation, otherness. Maneesh doesn't realise that life doesn't have to be difficult, the gate is actually open.

The yoga class in the sports centre is her culture embracing his culture, but he doesn't understand this.

He hurries past the yoga class to take the more difficult route, the uphill staircase, out of the place where her world meets his.

He may never realise that he's giving up love for cultural differences.

  • @GeniusSparrow & @ksblah2580 Thanks for the comments. I don't like to give a yes or no answer to any responses but it is gratifying to know that so much of what we were intending is coming through. Not only that, but that fans are finding room for their own interpretation.

  • @GeniusSparrow That's a great explanation. But just because he's a different colour (not calling you a racist, just saying don't be fooled) doesn't mean it's a cultural difference. I see this occurring quite a lot simply in social situation. Most couples aren't in the same group of friends, that makes it difficult when the relationship ends. But I think Maneesh doesn't find a way to fit himself into her circle of friends. None the less, great lil film! :)

  • @HolyCrapDudeXD True, cultural differences aren't only about ethnicity, and in this case his "otherness" is also about his disability, his clothing, his state of mind, his height relative to the inches guys and so on. But I'm sure that ethnic background is meant to be part of the story - his bame as the title of the film, the inch-boys' difficulty remembering how to pronounce his name, and the yoga class all suggest this.

    It's a captivating story of self-sabotaging love.

  • Beautiful film.

An unequal relationship by society's standards, she's an almost-perfect girl, with her own issues. Not obvious when she's arranging the trip to Big Bear, clear when he disappoints her. Her acne, not visible when she's made-up, visible when she's been in the pool.

She adores him, wants him to be the best man he can be (the hair scene, where he looks gorgeous).

He doesn't know how to feel her love, and return it, because of his own issues. [More to say but little YT space.]

  • At the end when he's climbing the steps, I'm thinking he was contemplating suicide and it's left up to the audience to whether he does or not.

I have had moments in my life like this when I was with a girl I was really into but her friends were bitches or douches and my choice was either to let her go or turn her against her friends. It was a lose/lose situation and I think that was where he was at.

That said, I have to say what hasn't been said yet: Forever Alone.

  • he is a cat?

  • he had a raging boner and walked with a limp because of it

  • I never expected this, and I love it.

  • I over think everything so I didn't think I understood. What I FELT was dead on...exclusion, insecurity, adoration, seclusion and finally, loss. The contrasts in the final cuts were heartbreaking. Well done.

  • I don't get this.

  • he was a terrorist who was supposed to bomb that building but couldnt find the detonator. he seemed nervous the whole time. ya

  • Not bad at all quick simple but a deep story and I'm sure a lot of people can relate to Maneesh. For those that don't understand, he is escaping from life. The girl see pass his looks and he's awkwardness, but for people like him is hard to be social and that's what he couldn't handle. I don't think it she was the problem the issue was with her friends he just didn't feel like he would fit in and there for that stress him out.... at least that's what it seem to me. Great job guys keep it up

  • Hes insecure about his prosthetic leg and it is effecting his social life in a negative way. Its about insecurities.

  • Oh insecurity. How well your own problems can destroy others' lives.

  • Or maybe he was just trying to save her from a cult.

  • @nikker1985 Hahahahah

  • He wanted to sneek in.

He tried to give her the hat thingy.

When he told her he is not coming to Big Bear she called herself stupid and then thought maybe he is cheating.

He sais who would have me...and then when she pills the orange he tells her she is stronger than him.

She then sees him putting that hat thingy in her bag and gets dissapointed.

    He then leaves.

Why did he sneek in if he could just enter? Why did he try to sleep her the hat thingy? It is apparent that he has confidence issues

  • He is the cat! Am I right?

  • Maneesh was afraid of life, and looked to escape, and eventually life also gave up on him; now all that is left for him is an escape route which is an uphill journey, carrying memories and regrets, wearing him down.

  • i don't get it...

  • whats the song the guy was playing with that accordion?

  • the name of your character is '8 inches'.

    really?

    Yup.

    >.> <.< okay

  • It's basically a story of an individyal lost in a world of awkward physicallity and uncomfortable relations.

  • This is really good, thx for sharing.

  • wtf is this shit

  • He chickened out and sought "comfort" (that is, less pain) by choosing to be alone instead of being confronted by is self-perceived awkwardness, misanthropism and physical ineptitude. Seems like all the negativity he carries was interrupted in the moments he shared alone with his gal, but the outside world brought the dark clouds again: her friends and her active social life diminish him as a man and make him wish he was someone else in some other place.

  • Been there too many times... I know exactly how he feels. great video

  • Uhhhhh.....what did I just watch? I don't get it.

  • He's gay?

  • That was sad

  • Thanks for the thoughtful responses. Especially

    Hyrulean, BIGBROTHER and MUSIKIll.

You're picking up a lot of what we were intending with the story and characterizations and that makes me really glad. You can find out more in the director's commentary on zooochosis com where I talk a bit about the subjects you're raising, like the estrangement Maneesh feels and the alienation.

Thanks for watching. Every now and then Zoochosis will be releasing some of these slower films.

    }:>

    PScott

  • Personally, I think even though he WAS what she wanted, he just couldn't trust it. Or as BIGBROTHERiswatchinU put it, he couldn't relate to her and her wold. Wow, what a well done little tragedy.

  • @musikilll

    }:>

  • would like to understand the message, but did not.

  • OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Damn Scott don't have other work? you are very very bad (killing you!)

  • i dont think this is supposed to mean anything.

  • so, he left her, because she was too good for him and she hang out with lots of ripped dudes and that makes maneesh feels like he was not good enuf fo her?

  • what camera/lens combo are you using o film this?

  • I didn't rate it because I don't understand it.

  • I didn't rate it because I don't understand it.

  • so was he gay or what?

  • @iwantcoolname , No, I think he does not feel comfortable in the world she lives in. I can relate to him a bit. Have you ever been really into a girl but not been able to stand being around her friends or family? He is struggling with the fact that he loves her, but he hates most of what she does and her friends. The ending is sad though, mostly because you could tell he really loves her but he is leaving anyway.

  • duuude! She may have been a Water Polo Viking but she was totally DTF for that curry sauwce!!!!

  • Man, that just got me really depressed, well, gonna go watch 'thanks, smokey.' to get over it.

  • Damn, this really needs more views. The acting was superb, and I identified with Maneesh pretty strongly. Too bad I'm not bright enough to really understand the ending. I think it's like, he is trying to escape the relationship due to his fear of life, and the scenes in between were like how great his life could be if he got over his fears?

  • @HyruleanHero1988 i think the ending is his way out of life. I'm not sure because i think this short film thing has allot of hidden messages but I think it's like a stairway to heaven?

  • @HyruleanHero1988 here's how i interpreted it: teacher and student fall in love, she wants to continue their relationship but he wants to end it because he knows that she would be better off without him. It pains him greatly to abandon her, but he knows that it's best for her. He wanted to return the hat she made him. The scenes were flashbacks, memories of what he must give up on.

  • @kitsurubami I didn't see any evidence that they were ever actually together. It looked like he was aborting the relationship without ever starting it, because he was too scared to put himself out there. I think the "flashbacks" were really a view into the wonderful life he could have had, had he overcome his fears and went for it. Notice his appearance over all is cleaned up, they get a place together, she looks much happier and prettier, life over all just seems better.

  • @HyruleanHero1988 I don't feel like, had this been his current existence, he would have willingly left it.

  • @HyruleanHero1988 i have since watched the directors commentary and it was as i said.

  • I am so confused why this is a comedy or its about why break ups are good or like reasons.... this is good but the description is horrible

  • I get it. He was allergic to her cat.!

  • @Howlnwoof really? he was?

  • @Howlnwoof huh?! LOL

  • i don't understand.

  • nice !
