I am 52 years old I forgot this song was ever recorded. Leave Ms. Ross alone she delivered what a lot of black female's need to hear. Well done ladies!!.
Leave Ms Ross alone, that lady was taking care of here babes.
I will always love Diana Ross with the Supremes or with out. This little black lady did the D-Thing. Sster's open up your mind, Ms .Ross is a very smart lady. Please take positive notes from her life, she is a true Icon! Date who you want to date Marry who you love!!
this has got to be one of the worst stereo mixes of a Motown song from this time period. The mono version- which was the actual swingle- is mixed much better.
@dancinonasmoothedge Motown was prepping Diana for her solo career with the "Love Child" album .... so the Andantes were substituted for Mary and Cindy for a large portion of the album (including this cut, although this upload cuts them out completely, which is a shame).
I love this version with the Andantes singing, but the live performance videos with Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong singing backups behind Diana Ross are just AWESOME. That takes nothing away from the Andantes, who sang backup on so many Motown releases, including many for Martha & The Vandellas. But there's just something about hearing Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong that just brings that unique quality to the Supremes.
@SisterSoulLA Hi, thanks for your note. I agree with you, the live performance videos with Mary Wilson and Cindy Birdsong are priceless and while I do not have access to any of those, you have motivated me to try to find a recording of the Supremes performing this work.
@oceanbound222 Hi, thanks, I know about the Andantes, but I was unsure how to reconcile that fact with the 45 RPM cover. Maybe I will make a note of the discrepancy in the text above.

@classicvinylbiz That is a great idea. One of the back-up Supremes, Margie Wilkins, always tries to claim ownership of the many songs her voice was thankfully never on.

How often did Mary or Cindy make it into the studio after 1967? Ever? Sometimes?

Always loved this song, although it's evident the background singers are not Mary nor Cindy.

Just so you know, the backup Supremes were not on this classic record, the backup vocals were the glorious Andantes !
