  • This song is such a great blend of melody, and lyrics:) one of the greats of the songwriting era

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written. The video moves along perfectly with the song.Good job, thank you so much.

  • My favorite by Don MaclLean - beautiful in every possible way. Thank you for this wonderful post.

  • As I listen to Don McLean and others of his time I realize two things: Their music was far, far superior to what we have smearing our ariwaves today. Finally, I grew up twenty years too late. I missed my generation...

  • so , can someone help me understand this song , im only 8 years old , thank you .

  • Sometime I wonder how can today kids be able to enjoy this kind of music when they were into these Hip Hop and Rap music. Recently , there was a shooting in Brooklyn, Brownsville black neighborhood and black leaders came out telling their people to stop the violence. They should tell their kids not to listen to Rap music.

  • thanks for taking me to a place I have not been in a long time

  • Thanks for the high fidelity and terrific photos! LOVE IT!!

  • this is not the original version from tapestry although that's where the song is from, just not this version, the tapestry version is quicker and there's more finger picking guitar work.

  • @e61807 I am NOT building castles in the air! All we both are destined to do is REAL and planned by God! So come on and start working at your destination! God does not want to wait any longer!

  • Dear Pissonmanu. What a clever name. I bet that has been done to you many times. Shucks, I thought he died and was buried under Grant's Tomb. I do know he died on the fourth hole of The Hills of Lakeway. He, Lee, and me played a round of golf not too long ago. No he is alive and well (he does have asthma). He is two years younger then I am and can write almost as well. Have you heard "Babylon". It was inspired by Psalms 137. Some idiot named James C. Ronning helped with the lyrics at my home.

  • Great Song.

  • I think most people only know Don's music through American Pie, but he has great many other songs he recorded. Love this song.

  • Beautiful job! So glad I found this! "Castles in the Air" is my life's theme song!

  • Thanks James for this song. I know right now who this song was about then and NOW. Written by one of the greatest song writers of our time. But few know. I feel privileged to know you and I am sorry it has taken you so long to take control of your life. You are a child of God and an instrument of our souls. And thanks Don McLean. You were the perfect voice for this song. Goodbye old friend and may you find your castles in the air. You are free and be true to thee not some one else.

  • @e61807 What the hell. You speak of him in the past tense, not sure if you know, but he is still alive. Also enough with the god crap please. Its a great song, done by a very talented artist. Has nothing to do with your so called God. Its music, not some higher purpose. Grow up.

  • louvado seja Deus pela juventude dos anos 80 e poder viajar no passado ouvindo essa linda canção que é uma chave para o passado

  • Erick

  • Excellent piece of work! Thank you very much for Sharing!

What a way of meeting people and get to see their talent. At first was reluctant being on youtube, but getting to do this has brought me into the houses of some very special people. You are one of them. Life; isn't it wonderful!

Keep up the good work. Hope You Are Having A Splendid Day!

    A New Friend

    Erick

  • Beautifull pics....well done ;)

  • My father's compared his reasoning behind him divorcing my mom with this song. The irony is that while Don McLean's song says he's leaving the girl because prefers the country life over the craziness of city life, my dad left because he grew bored of our country life and wanted to have liveliness in the city.

  • It is From the 1970 Album TAPESTRY ( MEDIA ARTS))

  • @atyourserviceable The original version is the opener from his album "Tapestry" (1970)...this version of the song was re-recorded by Don McLean and is the opener from his album "Believers" (1981)

  • It is From the 1970 Album TAPESTRY ( MEDIA ARTS))

  • i cant remember but i think this was from the 70s. timeless

  • @TheCounslor 1981. Seems like just yesterday!

  • this is 1 of the best don mclean songs, wot a songwriter, he is a legend.

  • My Grandma used to always play Don Mclean stuff and this song stuck in my mind.

    I did''nt think of the words,I thought of castles,knights and ramparts,etc..lol !!

    Silly boy was I.

I aint heard it for ages and now I finally get it!!About a unhappy love that was all just ''Pie in the sky'' or ""castles in the air''!!

I prefer the country life too,Don,and I cannot abide ''game playing''in relationships.Too exhausting!!

Prob'' like anyone who read this lengthy post will be! lol !!

  • BEAUTIFUL!! :D

  • I don't think I've ever heard this Don McLean song before, but it's beautiful! Thank you for posting this. Again, your photo choices -- WOW! ~~ Lynn
