i dont agree.. nolans batman IS possible... hes scarily possible.. what he is is improbable.. the circumstances neccessary to instill the motivation are common.. the mix of drive & capability is slightly rarer coz ppl with the motivation &will to do what he does wont have the means a wayne has
but in all fairness, given the right conditions &the "x factor" becoming the bat is very possible. u only have to look at say bruce lee stephen hawking &teddy roosevelt to realise this
Thought this was a really interesting question, really enjoy it.
Deffinately got to agree with Cap's point about getting a different Batman depending on the situation. A lot of the time i justify it as Bruce tailoring the Batman persona for the event at hand. For example in the bigger cosmic events he's aware he will be more use acting as the tactician behind the 'soldiers' or taking the stealthier approach in order to take on the threat scientifically.
love the podcast, great show as always.. but for crying out loud.. stop saying umm uh uh uh i counted at least 120 times!.... really bad. But i make it though cause i love what you guys do.
@stitch99 Not as much as perhaps it should-- I'm such a story analysis guy that when acting isn't working, I tend to chalk it up to a story not working for whatever reason. The acting could be bad because of bad directing or a bad script, etc. Or, it could just be the wrong choice for a role. It's hard to know for sure without being there when the movie's being made.
This makes me want to read some good JLA stories with Batman. I have already read Tower of Babel and liked it. Any more suggestions? I would prefer stories like the one Manos was talking about. I love seeing Bruce attack a situation strategically rather than just using brute force. Sorry if this sounds a little demanding.
Recently, Sony/Fox said they wont give Marvel bac the characters, such as X-men, Spiderman, F4, etc. If Marvel had these charcters back, do you think that their version of it will fit in with a possible 'Avengers' Sequel and that it will be better than ones already made by Sony & Fox?
Do you think that DC should follow the steps that Marvel has to get to Justice League having a film, if yes then why? and which characters fit in with it and which actors would you cast?
Hey Cap got a quick question for another possible rapid fire question session. Is collecting comics and other pop-culture items hoarding? I've had friends say that I collect way to many comics, games, and movies. I always will say that I am just expanding my collection. Do you think they are one in the same or they are different. Let me know and as always great episode and keep up the good work.
hey, what if the frank miller, superfriends, and chris nolan batman's were all just multiple personalities, just like his bruce/batman personas... haha jk
The problem is that Batman has become to be exactly like the gods he hangs out with. You basically have a man who has a limitless amount of skills, knows every fighting technique in the world and can beat every hero and villain in the DC universe and has no weakness whatsoever. In a sense he’s become too powerful.
You Do Realize That Batman Created A religion about himself to the Point that His Mytho's Stretches back to the Death Of the First Hero and His battle With Vandal Savage as Cain, the First Murderer. Batman Works Whereever you put them.
I think batman does fit in with the "Gods" in the JLA because he's one of the greatest hereos in the DC universe and he deserves the recognition. He's also a strategic genius who always comes in handy. The one flaw in the concept of him being in the JLA and I'd say with the idea of the character is that having him in the spotlight shows that he's human in a realistic grounded world the only way batman would work is if people thought he was some kind of omnipresent monster/demon
never read DC comics really always been a marvel fanboy but i thought the Justice league cartoon on cartoon network was well done and how batman fits there was perfect so ya he fits in
Personally I prefer Batman as a street level hero, I find the best Batman stories take place when Batman is taking on enemies who have no powers, but challenge Batmans intelligence and push him to the point of almost crossing his moral line.
I think there hasn´t been a story about Batman loosing his intelligence because the hole point of including him is to show that it´s better to rely on the skills you´ve acquired by training or practice than in those you gained in an afternoon. Also, one of the cool things about Batman is the he doesn´t need powers to kick ass, all he needs is to be on the top of his game, forgetting about fears and insecurities. Both are great lessons to teach kids.
Yes he does, he's a fucking fictional character people mean he's not real, including the overrated Nolan Batman movies. Batman is larger than life like cap and manos said, there are so many different versions of the character you can't just discount the other versions.
But the fact still remains Batman is very overrated within the past few years, his popularity is what kills the character to me.
IMO 4 the past fifteen yrs, or so....he's been wedged on to teams based on nothing more than his popularity. Most writers write him essentially as a loner w/ a background team, ala the Shadow, or Doc Savage, Bats "teams" r when he uses Robin, Batgirl, Oracle, etc. Don't even get me started on why Wolverine doen't belong on 'most" teams. :-)
@hellb he said only works there because its necessary.think about it the world going to end, batman swore to protect gotham, gotham is part of said world.besides he does have a power he's the worlds greatest detective. how do you solve a crime without looking for clues? they would be lost half the time without him.
Batman The Brave and the Bold mentions the lighter tone of its series as Batmite says "Batman's rich history allows him to be interpreted in a multitude of ways. To be sure, this is a lighter incarnation, but it's certainly no less valid and true to the character's roots than the tortured avenger crying out for mommy and daddy."
Nolan's Batman universe is so realistic and dark, that same universe can't be intertwined with a universe that has super humans and space hideouts. It just really wouldn't match up what so ever.
No. Adam West is just no Batman, lighearted Batman is not Batman at all. Look at his origin: Wayne parents were killed before his very eyes, and he is dress like nightmarish creature to scare criminals out of there minds. Is this look like comedy?
@1701EarlGrey He's so traumatized by the death of his parents that he rejects reality and replaces it with his own. The villains are hired actors and the police play along. Alfred is his doctor and Robin is an old friend he no longer remembers that plays the young sidekick of his fantasies. A psycological drama disguised as comedy. Avant-garde television.
No, I don't think that Batman fit in DC universe. I like Batman but what piss me off about him is that he win fights with much powerful opponents JUST because he is Batman. I hate Batman's prep time, DC let him win because he is popular. I aslo agree that Batman is not perse real hero, but he is much, much more real than characters like Superman. There is a lot quasi real characters like Batman: Zorro, Indiana Jones, they of course are not real but they are not match for characters like Dracula
I hated the new letters pages, because unlike the ones in Spider-man, they didn't use it as a way to let fans voice their opinion, but as a way to promote the next book by saying: "look at how great everyone thinks this book is! don't miss the next one, even if you didn't like this one, because everyone else loves it!" and all the editor would do is say "thanks! try reading this too! or sorry you didn't like this, but buy this completely unrelated book" Oh, Stan, how I miss you...
If we have to be completely honest - not at all! Much like the X-Men in the Marvel universe. Not even in the DCAU. You either have to make him too powerful, or you have to make the others less powerful. Now, I am all for a Batman/Superman team-up, because it's Batman and Superman above all else. Their dynamic is unique. However, JLA is something else. Once you add Flash, GL, WW it becomes a different game. There he does not fit. Sorry, guys.
i figure that If the League is made up of the "World's Greatest Heroes" then Batman being the "World's Greatest Detective" must be on the team. As Cap and Manos both have said Batman brings something unique to the table that the others do not. He can approach a situation in a different way. Also as Cap mentioned Batman 99% of the time will go out on his own and do his own thing during a mission. In this way he keeps his loner persona while still being on a team.
when I was younger I had an analogy for my top 3 heroes, basicly superman takes the day shift,spider-man takes the afternoon shift, and of course batman takes the night shift.
Small nitpick/correction: Black Canary actually first appeared in the Johnny Thunder solo stories as a "bad girl" and then Johnny Thunder just stopped showing up in his own stories, and she was the feature, and then she went on to JSA.
yes he does in a big way, keep in mind the first year of the justice league did not have batman and superman. the reason why justice league can always win is cause they have superman is the ultimate shield. if lex luthor is worst of all humanity (that makes batman the best) thus makes bats the true champion/representative of all humankind ie the leader of the justice league. As dc comics has superman he gets to stay in the shadows. if anyone should be parttime it is aquaman (the sea king).
I usually don't like the teams of super heros when you have like 10 heros who are all interesting in their own right none of them really get that much to do. The most super heros I'd add together is 2 or 3 tops ( that is from different comic books) anymore just becomes jumbled. But that's just me.
*The Animated Series Batman voiced by Kevin Conroy definitely works with the Justice League. This Batman is physically agile and can even outsmart other heroes.
*Chris Nolan’s Batman played by Christian Bale certainly does not. Remember that Superman Animated Series episode “Knight Time” when Superman beats up Bane. If Superman existed in Chris Nolan’s universe he would turn Bane into paste.
