You don't know the story. Snake was made to die quickly - he can't reproduce and he ages really fast. This was so the technology behind him doesn't get into the wrong hands. For the whole story, well - I can't give you an act by act summary because it isn't my job nor can i be bothered =P But just read it up I guess. =)

@123avdb4 its easy his genes since he is a clone has been infected with a virus called foxdie wich you should know since you played mgs2 and those genes also let him age faster so that the clone dies after arround 40 years of age since he was in his late 20 in shadow moses gives you the 9 years to mgs4 . the story isnt confusing at all everything releases on the end. so play it till then and then come back and post again :)
