  • aaw American accent!! how cute he is?? A LOT

  • Damn good accent!

  • OMG Tennant is flipping amazing at accents!

  • ah-hah, janet

  • He really likes climbing on couches, doesn't he... And his voice sounds so weird without the Scottish accent!

  • But his Scottish accent is so sexy!

  • wow that's so strange! he did a pretty good job though =) i prefer the scottish accent myself.

  • It's so bad that they canceled this show. I really like David Tennant and I was so happy that this show will coming up, but I'm sad now.

  • They should have given him a southern or boston accent. Flat midwestern accents are really hard cause there's nothing to focus on but flattening out your speech. With southern or boston accents, there is more to focus on and therefore, more of a chance of success.

Not that he did a bad job. He did a great job coming from Scottish to American. I don't think that we would have a problem with it if we didn't know he was Scottish and we weren't all listening for his Scottish accent. lol

  • Speaking as an American, I think his accent is pretty good! American accents are really hard to do correctly anyway. We're weird. So ALL the credit for doing that well! :D

  • that's a good american accent! Mind you, I'm english so what do I know? Lol! ;-)

  • I can see why it didn't take on

  • I don't give a fuck, I'd watch the shit out of that.

  • i like it better when he sticks to british accents

  • thanks janet :)

  • This is so amusing to me.

  • His American accent isn't bad, it's just . . . awkward. I find it cute. :)

  • wait what? this didn't air? why? how come? oh come on! should have given this show a chance and play it like they do all the other crap! And no. this doesn't even look like crap.

oh wait. thats why. because it wasn' crap.

  • Oh man, Scottish accents just don't take to neutral American ones very well. Maybe because they try to learn it in California- two accents with different heavy Rs don't mix! This is painful. And I've even gotten used to watching Hugh Laurie with an American accent!

  • Um, you guys, the accent's not all that far off. We're all so used to his lovely droll Scottishness that this sounds odd and a little forced. Anyway, the more important point is that his amazing talent is wasted on a script like this. :-/

  • I am really attracted to Scottish accents. I blame David Tennant and BARROWMAN!! *shakes fist*

  • The full title was: Rex Is Not Your Lawler, He's Your DOCTOR!

  • OH! And just to add to my previous comment *points below* there's a bright side to America. We have a WIDE array of accents. It's not hard to believe the one he's using is AN American accent.

  • Okay, NO fair! seriously, how is he able to pull off an American accent so well! I mean, it is a TRICKY accent to keep up! Especially if it's not your natural accent! I mean, it's my own accent, and I know it's not easy. No, it's not perfect, but so what? Seriously, last I heard him doing one, it was, frankly, HORRIBLE, but this is AMAZING!!! (not to mention sexy)

  • David Tennant in a Scottish accent: Insanely hot.

David Tennant in a British accent: Outrageously hot.

David Tennant in an American accent: Unexpectedly hot.

  • DAVID TENNANT AMERICAN ACCENT WHAT IS THIS I DON'T EVEN -

  • what is this show???? was it not picked up?

  • @shadowofthecandle Yeah, it wasn't, unfortunately.

  • @aalexisi darn. but why? and do you know the title?

  • @shadowofthecandle No idea--and same title as the video: Rex is Not Your Lawyer.

  • @aalexisi thanks!

  • @aalexisi thanks!

  • i can hear is scottish ness trying to break out of his voice

  • I'm not sure if he was trying to speak in an American accent. I mean...at first I thought he was just sticking with his normal Scottish accent. But then, some words...

You know what? The character could just be a Scot who's lived in American a while. I don't care. I want to watch this! :D

  • hi. he's hot. ok

  • I love this. WANT...

  • Epic Fail on NBC part. They have such crappy shows on that this one would have been refreshing. His accent is alright. He would have gotten a dialect coach to work with to help him perfect it. Good first try with it considering his Scottish one is quite thick. :-) Better actor than most of the ones we have here in the States.

  • the funny thing is the very first time i watched this clip ..... i had no idea who David Tennant was although i did find him hot hehe

  • Oh, he's trying though. I'm sure if the show had gotten picked up, he would've gotten a dialect coach and whatnot. This is a pilot and he has a Scottish accent that is VERY hard to mask. From the voiceover to the end of the scene, he really improves. So lay off!

  • @thuddedme i think it was a good initial first attempt at an American accent. i've heard worse interpretations of an American accent to be honest. At least this one was not the bland and boring versions you hear all the time.

  • what is with that accent....

  • It's hard to call this American... its more like he's speaking in Ariel font

  • tennant has a very odd american accent

  • WHY DID THIS SHOW NOT GET PICKED UP D:

  • He sound so silly!!! But it's really good. I love him!

  • he's "american" accent sounds more Scottish than the accent he did on doctor who... lol

  • omg, he's he attempting to do an american accent? :D

it sounds so scottish, it's adorable. i love it, ahah.

  • ZOMG the accent! :)

  • Maybe nobody's perfect but as for me, David Tennant is TOTALLY PERFECT <3. And I don't care what do you think, really XD.

  • That accent is making me blush. I think most of the reason I'm hearing all the Scottish is because I was just watching Blackpool. Gotta watch this again and listen more closely. I do admit it sounds a bit forced.

  • He just needed abit more practice at that accent is all. As an American, I think it's not that bad; it doesn't really suit him, I think, but I would definitely watched the show. Also, this may have been just a bad clip, I mean, listening to the Doctor Who audiobooks; he had a decent American accent for several of the characters in there. Still would have loved a Scottish Rex, I love his accent.

  • The accent does not even sound bad! I think a lot of us just prefer that amazing scottish accent of his :D

  • Why wont anyone let him keep his scottish accent!!! Its freaking hot!

  • Well im not going to be too judmental on the accent, however, many people would have tuned in more, had he kept the british accent, i realize that this is not david tennant fault as more the directors, but i can handle the accent change, many people however could not. Im still looking for the full episode so i can say hey at least i watched it lol.

  • Why are people being so judgemental? For a scottish man, he speaks a pretty good american accent. He was trying his best and at least give him credit for doing so. It really bugs me that people put him down and tell him that he sucks. Anyone who says that shouldn't be talking because they probably would suck at doing David's scottish accent too. Give him a break. Nobody's perfect. >:P

  • @lightningboysgirl16 I don't understand it either. Granted, we're all used to his Scottish or English accent, but he's pretty darn good with an American one, too. It sounds a bit Mid-Atlantic with some Appalachian thrown in for good measure, if I were to try to narrow it down to a certain region.

  • eh sounds sort of legit. more new york accent though. brooklyn to be specific.

  • ...dat...accent...wah??

  • the accent is a hoot

  • I'm crying a little because this show hasn't been picked up yet! NBC! Y U NO PICK UP GOOD SHOWS?!

  • Graaaaahhhh.. NBC totally messed up on this one! I mean, I SOOOOOO would have watched this!! ._.

  • I don't think the accent is necessarily bad, I think it's just very odd to hear him with an American accent. It's not the best by any stretch, but it's not the worst I've heard. It almost sounds like a North American accent.

  • @ohmagaod I agree. I think it sounds akward now, but after a while, he would have gotten better at it and we would have gotten more used to it, despite the jarring transition. He actually sounds better when he exaggerates it or tries to sounds cocky like when he says, "Is he dead or not?" I totally bought that!

  • Since it was still it pilot form it would have been nice to work in a plot point to let him retain his natural accent. Probably would have skewed better. Looked like a cute show I would have watched it.

  • David is fantastic, but his American accent is terrible!

  • haha. I absolutely ADORE David Tennant but, man I dunno, his American accent is a bit jarring, isn't it?? Maybe it's just that I love and identify him so closely with either his cheeky Scottish or cheeky "Doctor Who" accent. So yeah, American DT is strange =) But still brilliant and wonderful!

Mwah, why oh why wasn't this picked up, NBC?!?!?! Not enough room after all those other "quality" disposable shows you have on your roster?!?!!?

  • I like him better with the British accent. He sounds like Pee Wee Herman with the American one.

  • He looks good, but... yes, the accent Dx

  • Okay so my friend who's never seen anything with david in it comes into the room and sits behind me to see what I'm doing because he's bored. So as I stumble across this clip and hear his accent, I can't help giggling like an idiot the whole time, while my friend tries to figure out 1, what's wrong with me. and 2, what's wrong with his voice. It does sound a little off, but it's still nice :3

  • I can't stand his accent :L dont hate me for not liking something :P

  • I have noticed also that if the actor is not American/Canadian, he's either British, Irish, or Australian.

  • @davincent98 Welcome to all actors Scottish.

  • I see House whose younger and is lawyer not a dorctor. Still good, just unoriginal

  • @givemerockordiehard House in reality is older than Rex by 12 years, so it's slightly original.

  • @TennantJunkie1993 ill give you slightly, but it sounds a lot like House. Still would have liked to see this on the air

  • David John McDonald, Tu es tres mingon when playing naive.

  • Usually a British person doing the American accent sounds kinda... whiny. Tennant is no exception. This writing doesn't seem exceptional, but yes, a British Rex would have been less distracting for those in the know, and might have freed up his performance for those that aren't.

  • omg its like an injustice to the world not hearing his scottish accent :(

  • The accent is sooo wrong. Just make him English or Scottish. That's MORE INTERESTING anyway!

  • why do supremely talented british actors always have to stoop to the low level of mimicking an american accent? They're speaking english already, so what's the problem?

I don't like this on him... he sounds fake. Maybe that's because I have heard him in his own lingo too many times, but I didn't have a problem with his RP, so that can't be it.

  • @hcvang His accent is good, in my opinion; He's scottish, not british, but used an Estuary English accent when playing the Doctor; Don't judge his accent!

  • give the scott a break!

  • This is a bit like watching Men Who Stare At Goats with Ewan McGregor. Apparently them Scottish people can't really do good American accents.. All I hear is WRONG

  • I really could've gotten used to the accent really I could have, because it would have meant that David Tennant would be sharing his brand of awesome on this side of the pond.

  • He sounds exactly like Charlie Sheen.

  • He sounds ridiculous with an American accent. xD

  • Would have been a good show, but he need to work on his American.

  • It didn't get picked up because it has a horrible premise. But his attempt at an American accent is cute..

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL this is supposed to be an American accent? I thought it was his natural accent until I read the comments. Oh well. At least we know that even his failures are adorable!

  • Why was this not agree? How can the TV execs know if it'll be popular or not if they don't even see it's ratings? I'd heard that Tennant's American accent was bad but it sounds good here. Will this ever be aired?

  • His American accent is crap. He doesn't do everything well.

  • That was very interesting. (:

  • Was that supposed to be an American accent? David, I like you Scottish.

  • Davidddd........ American does not look good on you.

  • Dreadful

  • His accent in the voice-over at the beginning sounds reeeeally bad. But the actual scene sounds as though he'd gotten in more practice since that was recorded and (to my English ears) he sounded American.

  • His accent here...I don't know what to make of it! It's weird, but because it's coming from David Tennant it's also kinda hot. You can just here the Scottish waiting to come out in 0:14 - 0:35. But when he says, "Stop snooping" or "That's our case?" he just nails the English accent. I would never miss an episode of this if it were on NBC.

  • And yet again, Tennant is eating/licking his fingers. XD

  • Fuck you NBC =( meh

  • WHY THE HELL IS THIS NOT ON TV?!?!?!?!?!

  • GOD DAMN YOU NBC!!! David tennant would've still made a good lawyer!!

  • First of all ADORABLE! Second he would be better at a southern accent the way he kinda draws it out a little bit <3

  • Overall a pretty good accent but his Scottish is still poking through. LOL

  • 0:26 > AWWWWWWWWN. <3

  • Yikes, David Tennant with an American accent? I adore David Tennant, but I don't know if I could get used to that.

  • This is so bizarre to listen to. I'm sure I would have gotten used to it if I'd watched more than this minute and a half clip, his accent isn't all that bad and it would have gotten much better if he'd kept the gig. Shame NBC didn't pick it up! I would have been very happy to have Mr. Tennant on my television every week.

  • shouldve just let him used his own accent

  • His accent is so cute! It's so awkward :)

  • Am I the only one who thinks that David's American accent still sounds a little Scottish?

  • @PichuandEevee That's why I can't stop laughing. I would never be able to take this show seriously... XD

  • @PichuandEevee I'm with you on that, I can pick up a little Scottish in it. :)

  • @PichuandEevee Ever heard Connery's Russian Accent?

  • Weeeeeird! lol. it's like there are holes in his speech. -_-;

  • his accent is hilarious cause its meant to b american but you can still tell he's scottish XD he's still awesome tho :)

  • what a teeeeeeeeeeriiiiiible accent

  • Whoah! Tennant with an American accent!? What?!

  • I think this show would have gotten better in time. Like House. Such a shame. =(

  • no way......daivd..........our anerican accent does not suit you........ sryy!!!!! plz dont take it offfensive!! your me fave!!!! but you sounds awesome with your scottish accent!!! love you!!

  • Wait, I read the script for this and the character was written as a Brit. Why is David doing an accent?

  • not only is his accent a bit rubbish ... the whole thing looks a bit .... naff!

  • Really wanted this one to get picked up. If I didn't know him already I would have suspected because the accent is in and out, but still kinda cute. He's trying and that makes him more adorable. :)

  • OMG >.< I can't even listen to it. it's so WRONG

  • OMG the accent!! I cant even.... Oh, David. You're adorable. But please speak normally. Your Scottish accent is super sexy. Kthx. =)

  • Can I just say, POOR AMERICAN ACCENT DAVID!

  • oh, i love you david tennant.. but no, sweetie, that is not an american accent. thats not any american accent.. it sounds like a scottish - brooklyn mix, with a little speech impediment thrown in.. but i still wish this show had been picked up

  • His American accent isn't actually half bad. . . don't get me wrong I prefer his Scottish or English accent any day, but if it meant watching him on another show, I'll take the American one. . . too bad NBC was completely stupid and didn't pick it up. I actually really liked the idea of it. Plus, David Tennant is AMAZING.

  • He does NOT sound American LMAO

  • Is it unaired?

  • Is it unaired ??

  • Nooooo I've only ever liked the way one person sounds as an American - John Barrowman. As far as I'm concerned everyone else on the planet should have some sort of British accent.

  • @emelton07 I agree he has a great voice but you have to admit there are some other great american accents out there.. Morgan Freeman and Walter Cronkite for example.. however I would be just fine if everyone had British accents :)

  • @RowrTiger True, true. My heart just flutters whenever I hear British accents. lol

  • With a little practice, he doesnt sound half bad in American

  • Man i would have watched this show Aghh!!! Not cool NBC

  • lmao is this for real

  • I'm sorry, I love it. I love to hear foreign people's American accent. If even if it's terrible, it's still awesome to me! lol.

  • ITS SO WRONG

  • I'm sorry. I love 10inch as much as the next fangirl. but really??

  • So weird to hear his voice like this...

  • Can someone please explain to me why this didn't get picked up? I DON'T UNDERSTAND. it has David Tennant. Why is it not on my tv?

  • @thatothergrace Because they pitched it to the idiots at NBC. Nobody at NBC is smart (except the guy that picked up Chuck).

  • @thatothergrace Because they're too busy trying to put out new shows like Happily Divorced that have people like Fran Drescher in them. Sad.

  • @thatothergrace Because NBC is run by a bunch of fickle overpaid douchbags that wouldn't know good programming if it slapped them in the face. Case in point, in 2010 they gave Conan the Tonight Show and moved Jay Leno to 10:00pm (instead of just making him retire) then after 6 months they fired Conan so Jay Leno could get The Tonight Show back.

  • @thatothergrace it is yet to start i think its starts in late 2011 or some time 2012 the network has waiting for the ok

  • That's so cool! American accent with liitle notes of Scottish :) ^^ LOVE it :)

  • This actually seems pretty interesting, I really wish this episode could be found somewhere :( David is still awesome even with an american accent.

  • On a final note.......It's great for an actor, especially a highly accomplished actor like David Tennant, to take on more diverse & challenging rolls, like the one David tennant did of Rex, because this way an actor, or actress, can avoid the dreaded stigma of being typcasted as one particular character, explore new rolls, challenges and scripts and most importantly.....stay working! ^_^

  • What'e even more amazing is that David Tennant had to almost completely lose his scottish accent to do Doctor Who but on very rare occations you can hear that beautiful scottish roll of the tounge when he says some words containing the letter "R", It didn't happen often though. It must have been hard to completely lose his English & scottish accent with this roll of Rex. If I never saw his previous work before this then I prolly wouldn't notice as much.

Brilliant Job tho and good luck!

  • @darthsideous1968 I personally like the bit in Doctor Who where they take on a werewolf and David Tenenant is "squee-ing" over it.

  • It's amazing to me to see that quite a few British & Australian actors are dropping, or attempting to drop, thier accents for American television & movie rolls these days! Australian actor Hugh Jackman "(AKA Wolverine from X men)" Hugh Laurie "(The Doctor from the hit TV series House)" The lead character of Sheriff "(from the AMC mini series The walking dead)" And now we see Scottish born actor David Tennat "(AKA Doctor Who)" doing an American Lawer. It's pretty amazing when you think about it

  • GOD I wish this had aired...need my David fix!

  • Now I know why this wasn't picked up for more episodes. With that terrible attempt at an American accent, I'd only be able to watch this with the volume turned down

  • His American accent TOTALLY has a Scottish lilt at the end of every word.

  • Great acting from Tennant as always...but...I think he needed just a little more voice coaching to perfect the accent.

  • MOTHER OF GOD, THAT ACCENT

  • David Tennant is my favourite actor - standard - but that accent is a bit....ropey...:S

  • David Tennant needs to climb on furniture more often.

  • why couldn't they have made this show -.-' I want to seeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

  • I think he failed to say hired.

  • is it cancelled? D:

  • His American accent does sound a bit weird, especially with the "r"s. But I think he's doing pretty well. He reminds me a little of Christian Bale (who also fakes an American accent in Batman) at some points. I do prefer his Scottish accent, or English (in the case of Doctor Who), but he can take whatever roles he wants with whatever accents he wants. He's still immensely talented.

  • Are you serious? His accent is not that bad,

In the end of the clip it gets better.

  • Comment removed

  • what is this sorcery???

  • I dont know if it is just me but was Tennant's american accent crap?

  • I think I would have still watched it on mute. But, yeah, it's really hard to listen to.
