This is significant for many reasons and its spiritual power is up there with the very best.
Shaka obviously thought so too as it was a standard at his dances for many years. and like poached commented above: I still can't believe how good this tune is.
Every reggae music lover should bust this tune loud through their stereo a few times.
Many thanks for posting. Just need that Swan Lake cut from Mawamba Dub and we can shut youtube down job done.
fantastic track and recording - you can't get the bass and quality on the online mp3's via iTunes - they are substandard recordings compared to this! ;) very good. It might be called 'Pharoah's Plague' but you should know since you have the vinyl! ;) Blessings, t
rocking sounds here, i never heard it before, thanks for posting. now it might be just me but it seems that there is quite a lot of reggae on youtube these days. rare jems added everyday. it's amazing!
Yabby U Meets Sly & Robbie Along With Tommy McCook (1982)
one of the best dub albums ever; also features Augustus Pablo on organ. This song is one of my favorite on this lp. Sly Dunbar is in rare form, and rarely plays drums like this anymore.
Strange: My album list Scientist as the mixer, while the above lists King Tubby. Sounds more like Scientist to me though. Perhaps the master tape is lost; this entire album would be a real gem to have on CD.
I can't believe this could sit in the vaults forever. Someone has got to reissue it. Blood and Fire have done some great reissues of Yabby U, so I'm pinning my hopes on them.
Sometimes there's confusion between King Tubby the man and King Tubby's the studio - maybe it was mixed by Scientist at King Tubby's(?)
1:03 and 2:55 is trademark scientist...and the subtle play with delays at ca 1:30. The banging sound of the spring reverb on the snares at ca 1:44 also. We can be sure it was tubby's equipment though...unmistakable sound...best sound ever
right hunh?.... in the Deep Roots Music documentary (w/ Roger Deakins on the celluloid) says, "King Tubby built the biggest sound system on the Island"... ReevVveRB yeah! wah

deepvoiceuk 1 year ago
@deepvoiceuk: Most likely it is Tommy McCook who plays the flute, just like on other Yabby You productions.

@Kemumbia true it could be either on of them ....shows how talented both men were
i would lean more towards tommy though

a lot of tubby credited songs were not mixed by the man himself but by scientist and jammys.
