My Top 10 Beethoven Sonatas: 10 - Sonata No.24 in F# maior - A Thérèse 9 - Sonata No.13 in Eb maior - Quasi una Fantasia 8 - Sonata No.4 in Eb maior - Grand Sonata 7 - Sonata No.32 in C minor 6 - Sonata No.17 in D menor - Tempest 5 - Sonata No.14 in C# menor - Moonlight 4 - Sonata No.8 in C menor - Pathetique 3 - Sonata No.29 in Bb major - Hammerklavier 2 - Sonata No.21 in C major - Waldstein 1 - Sonata No.23 in F minor - Appassionata Yeah, I think that's it.
Yeah, that's Beethoven's. Waldstein, actually, is my second favorite Beethoven Piano Sonata - the first one is Appassionata, and the third one is Pathetique.
I had no problem with the sound level despite my clunky little PC speakers. I think it's not the CD, it's the crazy sound level variations on YouTube - always been troublesome.
@cangjie12 The sound is exactly as soft/loud as on CD. Most classical CD's are on the soft side to make sure the full dynamic range can be displayed. A lower average level is needed for that. Perhaps it's time to think of a new set of PC speakers? When I play this at max volume on my speakers, the walls are shaking! ;-)
@Godbluffer oh so that's the reason why classical cd's are softer than modern music! .. i always wondered why they couldnt make classical music CDs with higher average volume.
@cangjie12 Exactly! :-) And it really is a good thing! Far too many recent pop/rock CD's (and "remasters" of older albums) have the natural dynamics of the sound all squashed. Actually, a significant of the non-remasters have the better sound, but most people tend to associate louder with better and just aren't aware of what's going on. Just google 'loudness war' and you'll see all of this explained. :-)
It is powerful and technically excellent but in my opinion this is not enough. Everything sounds alike. As if the pianist would be on fire but does not think what he plays and which meaning the notes have....sometimes.
Wonderful for emotions, almost as awesome as chocolate!

i think the piece is fine, Mr. Brautigam plays like a death maniac... very beethoven-like
this is my favorite version

@PJinBston what's wrong with his rubato?
you need to forget about the romantic view of beethoven = metronome.
Brautigam really understands this music.

So you mean that Brautigam's hands are apparently very similar to Beethoven's? Fascinating, I didn't know that. :)
