  • Moving!

  • Just, too good.

  • em Português, um vestido de meia taça, o champagne quase saiu pela borda...in Portuguese, dressed in a half cup, champagne almost went overboard

  • Heavenly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!!!!

  • Heavenly

  • Beautiful song but i kept expecting Isola Jones to pop out of her dress!

  • I have listened to this clip at least 50 times in the last week. bella figlia dell'amore is the ultimate chicken song. I just want to ravish someones wife after singing ths in her ear ( just like the Baron, baby!) schiavo son devezzi tuoi!

  • Joan Sutherland and Renato Cioni--that IS the best!

  • boobs and Pavarotti

  • It just dont get any better than this period...

  • Joan Sutherland's high notes arched liked scintillating meteors over any ensemble. That voice was a miracle of nature. R.I.P. La Stupenda.

  • Poor Rigoletto. Having to sing the whole part bent over. Must be so hard!

  • @carolineleiden Leo Nucci makes it look easy.

  • This quartet is OUTSTANDING, MAGNIFIQUE, ORIGINAL AND UNIQUE. JUST BEAUTIFUL. Love it. Thanks for sharing it.

  • Is it true that Isola Jones became deaf after this performance?

  • Pavarotti and Sutherland: THE BEST!!!!

  • She looks a bit like Grace Bumbry

  • Nice

  • I usually refer to this quartet as a tenor solo with trio accompaniment. However, here Joan turns that on its head. She soars, and the other dare not fly near the sun.

  • Too bad that comments about Isola Jones are about her breasts rather than her voice.

  • only thing more beautiful than Isolas personality and Pavarottis voice must be Verdi's soul...for having written this

  • Listen to the size of Sutherland's final D! :)

  • The music is just beautiful, but so is Isola's... "personality".

  • @anableps67360 Does it hurt having to carry around an ego that large?

  • @anableps67360 Who do you think you are? Do you think any of us truly care to hear the senseless dribble which forms in your tiny little brain. If you don't like a singer then don't watch the video, none of care to read such filth while enjoying such beautiful music.

  • Wow, Sutherlan'd high notes are SUBLIME!

  • My absolute favorite version of the famous quartet in Rigoletto with a distraught Joan Sutherland, a lecherous Luciano Pavarotti, a vengeful Leo Nucci and a voluptuous Isola Jones. This is a masterpiece of singing, staging, timing, and acting! Thank you for posting it!

  • Truly great........you should have seen them at the Met....it would and did take your breathe away

  • Isola Jones is crazy hot!

  • Sin palabras, magnificos los 4

  • thats cdnt be better. the ending is sublime..rarelt u get

  • Oh ist so funny..

Well some singer have a figure and some a voice...-Im shure thats the deppest cleavage in Operatic History

Sutherland is good (later in the Terzetto she sing an E Flat!

  • Love your last comment about Isola Jones' ... "personality".... Must have gotten quite a few "standing ovations".

  • @fareneng I had not noted the "personality" of Isola until I read the comment.

  • @fareneng Haha, awesome comment.

  • Will that damn wardrobe never malfunction?

Actually I am not a complete peasant. Pav and Joan are, as always, sublime.

  • It's just best ever in opera. Verdi, Pavarotti, Sutherland, Nucci, Isola Jones and this marvellous cuartet. I will not never tire of listening it. I had the oportunity of listening Nucci in Madrid Royal Opera Theatre and it was possibily the best rigoletto I'd never seen. unfortunately Pavarotti and Sutherland are not alive but we'll always have videos like this.

  • This is a flicking musical orgasm. It doesn't get any better. ( I need a cigarette now- L.O.L.) Pavarotti is a God and he will "live forever".

  • it's is marvelous, thanks for puttin' it on U Tube

  • this girls boobs + Pavarotti's voice = my money's worth

  • @guitarbeasts + Sutherland's Db!

  • How she manages to sing in that dress without it giving way is beyond me.... even still it's only a minor distraction from Pavarotti's voice.

  • Le plus beau quatuor de tous les opéras.

  • @tc1000 I agree! but we must remember that in the story she is a part of a plot to kill him.....what a way to go............

  • Nice rack too!

  • one of my favorite pairs i all of opera , When was this recorded ??

  • @joergsattler one of your favorite "pairs"? - har har har.

SuAnn's "don´t put attention in Isola´s...." is like saying

from a great height "Oh My God - Don't Look DOWN!"

It's a sure way to get someone to look down :~)

  • @joergsattler

1/11/1987 a gala that was broadcast on PBS.

  • I do get to see this opera in L.A. in Dec. 2010.

  • I love this and hope to see it in L.A. Calif. in Dec. 2010

  • Exquisite in every way. Felicitous. Words utterly fail! So gorgeous.

  • RIP !

  • Unbelievable - may she R.I.P.

  • Quem disse que Pavarotti não fica bem nesta ópera? idiots!!

  • Stupendous and timeless...unfortunately missed.

  • The amazing response from the crowd says it all. Unspeakably amazing...

  • i'm sorry but the Isolas "personality" is the most visually slowdown

  • Questo Quarteto e molto Bene Bravisimo

  • RIP, thank you for the amazing voice.

  • What an exceptional performance! I am moved to tears by such a wave of supreme beauty.

  • ☆♡☆ Bravo!!! Superb!!! R.I.P.---Prima donna Sutherland...i hope you will enjoy singing with Pavarotti in heaven. Thank you so much for posting & sharing this marvelous clip.☆♡☆

  • Brilliant, this performance was absolutely brilliant and showed what geniuses Sutherland and Pavarotti truly were. May they create such magical performances in heaven now. R.I.P. Dame Sutherland.

  • Addio per sempre STUPENDA cantante !

  • RIP Joan Sutherland, you and Pavarotti can now sing duets to the angels in heaven.

Thank you for the gift of your voice.

  • @TheOpusofCharlie what is the name of this aria?, thanks

  • @mauriciomille "Bella figlia dell'amore," beautiful isn't it

  • @TheOpusofCharlie so beautiful, thank you!, 'la danza' is a napolitan song isnt?...is so beauty that too!, thanks, and for me one of the beauty arias for me is 'm'appari tutt amor' have you ever heard it?

  • lol, I love the description you wrote for this video!

  • Katy Perry, eat your heart out!

  • magnificent! to listen and die...or better, listen again and again.

please, can anyone trace the year of this?

  • Fantastic! The audience response at the end says it all. How often do you hear an opera audience respond like that?!

  • A miracle of modern engineering that there was no costume failure, and indeed a great pity as well.. Beyond compare as the definitive performance. Bravo and Brava

  • I don't understand how one can sing so loud right in somebody's ear. Doesn't it cause hearing problems to the other?

  • Richard Bonynge must have conducted every performance of his wife Dame Joan. So he must have been in the orchestra pit in this performance. Her crystal voice attracts a huge number of audiences. I wonder when this performance took place.

  • I'm sure Luciano was enjoying Isola's "personality" - and what a view he had (LOL!).

    The quartet's performance is magnificent!

    And I definitely miss Luciano...

  • incredible voices!!!!!

  • Het beste operafragment wat ik in 40 jaar heb gehoord !

  • damn she has some big TITS!

  • This was a trio. I barely heard Nucci. The conductor needs to ease up a little on the volume but then with Sutherland and Pavarotti singing so loudly... Who is conducting anyway?

  • Poor Isola Jones. I can't imagine it would be very comfortable to have Luciano Pavarotti bellowing in your ear.

  • @martythetickler

Are you kidding me? Her facial expressions before she began singing--those weren't acting.

I'm pretty sure she came 6 times before she even started to sing.

  • @DominationSupreme True, but it would be really loud & that's why I think it would be uncomfortable.

  • @martythetickler

Yeah I know what you meant =P

  • SUPERB !!!!!! There was only one Pavarotti

  • PARA LA OPERA NO HAY QUE SABER NADA ......................SOLO SABER OIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR...............EL QUE TENGA OIDOS QUE OIGA EL QUE NO QUE SE ATENGA A SU PROPIA CULTURA.......CADA CUAL TENDRA SUS LIMITES......LOS MIOS SON INFINITOS.............Y PARA INFINITUDDDDDD..ESTA..JOAN SUTHERLAND..............

  • EXCELLENT ! Sutherland is Great. When I hear this GLORIOUS Quartet, I have a great feeling. U only wish I saw them during a live performance.

  • @freegman007 Yes!! Indeed!!!

  • That was sublime. Stunning performance in every way.

  • ~> Where can I find it? I want it!

    -download-

  • Splendide,absolutely amazing, a lovely talented quarter. BEAUTIFUL...Thank you.

  • Poor Luciano, I fully understand you! ;-

  • @bellini7verdi OYE COJUDO QUE COMENTARIOS COMO SE VE QUE NO SABES NADA DE OPERA, !!!

  • Mah, scenicamente la Sutherland non centra un cazzo.

  • Hahahaha, Isoloa's personality. This is wonderful, though! I hope I can sing like this some day!

  • @REBECCAtheSOPRANO Aw heck anybody can buy a pushup bra...

  • Sutherland oh my stars!. Such a voice only occurs once every 50 years. She was not for looking at only for listening to.

  • That's what I call a dream team. Brilliance!

  • Sublime. Joan and Luciano: voices from heaven.

  • It's like hear the angels sing @____@

  • I think you are biased

  • whos the old lady? shes got a marvelous voice.

  • Comment removed

  • @CarlosMarioMedellin I can see you're new on this. Well. Search about Sutherland and you will find many of the best opera's perfomance ever.

  • Extraordinary performance. Sutherland's voice is unique !!! And the 4 together are great

  • Fantasticos!!! son los 4 fantasticos.......

  • Sutherland is amazing. Thanks for posting this, it is wonderful!

  • Pavarotti sounds glorious!

  • the voice of j.s. is unbelievable.

may be the best of all times...

  • Sutherland looks like Gildas great great grandmother

  • who cares what she looks like, that voice is amazing

  • Joan Sutherland sings this amazingly. end of debate

  • you guys are a buch of catty b----- but you made me laugh....no one mentions that stupendous High D flat! and at more than 60 years old! What's the matter with you guys?!

  • Nucci è proprio come il prezzemolo : non si sa come ma riesce a intrufolarsi dappertutto. La Sutherland ( grandissima Gilda ai tempi d'oro ) qui ormai era totalmente andata. Molto bravo invece Pavarotti. Notevola I. Jones come Maddalena.

  • I was waiting for something to come poppin out of that dress. Also it looked as if Ms. Southerland's jaw came unhindged. BUT....... I can't carry a tune in a bucket so I'm happy you uploaded the clip. Thanks.

  • @SueAnnNivens what do you mean don't pay attention to her "personality"? Do you mean her breasts? Revel in her breasts, there's nothing shameful in them, plus they fit her character perfectly: the sultry female distraction/accomplice to her hit man brother.

  • Maybe the best quartet in opera. Great performance, too. Thanks!

  • Haha! Pavarotti enjoying the boobs..I love this man! God Bless you whatever you are big man

  • La Sutherland Canta Precioso...

She likes me more than Maria Callas.

  • Esto es OPERA!!! BRAVOOOO

  • She doesn't have dentures, and says she doesn't think anyone could sing with dentures. She has porcelain caps.

  • Comment removed

  • @ILoveJoanSutherland

Uhm......I assume your asking about her teeth? They are porcelain caps thats all, not dentures as some people believe.

  • @Hako2004 No, I didn't ask anything...

  • if she wasn't deaf, she is now...

  • LOL

  • LOOOOOOOOOOL XD

  • Great interpretations, I laughed when I read the final part of the description: "Please! Just listen to the music.. don´t put attention in Isola´s... you know..."personality" Truthful!

  • How great to have Youtube to see these amazing performances. Pavarotti and Joan are a duo made in heaven

  • @fanniandwads I think what you said could quite literally be true

  • Dr Tom was sitting there enyoing....

  • che poppe!

  • their voices are to die for!!! awesome performance

  • they will be a great part of history! When you can do better or earn more per perforance is when you can give your negative comments

  • @latinorama you took the words right out of my mouth....don't you think that people are jelous and awful.....what are all these assinine comments about these "dentures" God! my Grandma would call a person who would write something idiotic like that a "Brutta Bestia"

  • Thank God for double-sided tape.

  • @whereisthedignity

    hahahahahahahah

  • I love the mezzo's expressions. she looks like a conniving bitch.

PS: Joan 3X louder than anyone else =)

  • i listen to this and i'm happy to be alive

  • I think I would prefer the lovelady too at least she is under 70

  • Comment removed

  • oh gawd i dunno if i could take pavarotti hittin them notes right in my ear like that!

  • he is like Jim Carrey in Liar Liar screaming in her ear. just shows how good his dynamics are that he could do this stuff not in FFF

  • after hearing the Baden-Baden concert version here, this is definitely a step up! beautiful melding of voices, the way it should sound, IMHO. thanks--and Jones has much more than "personality"!

  • So Good.

  • Wonderful.....and who cares about the personality..............when your this good do we really care. All music has its divas.......so whats makes them so different from the rockers of today(other than they can sing...lol)

  • This piece is such a killer for the tenor. I note that LP even has trouble with those last two b-flats. Still, all were stunning. Isola Jones, never forget, was a wonderful singer as well as a beautiful actress.

  • i think the mezzo may have gone deaf in her left ear after all that! :)

  • Beautiful - but that dress MUST hurt her boobs the way it's cutting into her. Eyes closed and listening it's just DIVINE!

  • Darn it but Isola's "personality" is just so engrossing! Still great music, grrrr!

  • i have found my favorite mezzo-soprano!

    brava brava!

  • Sutherlands Db is just beautiful here

  • @brianmiles34 my thoughts exactly

  • Check out my page for other rare Sutherland moments, I've dedicated my account to her amazing voice :)

And yes, even in her 60s Sutherland still has everything up to a high D!

  • That's one of the fullest Dflat(Sutherland's high note at the end) I've have ever heard - so exciting!!!!!!!!!!

  • This production of Rigoletto is a masterpiece in my view. It contains my favorite score of music ever composed for the stage.

  • Perchè i miei occhi vanno sempre su Maddalena--Isola Jones ??

    E' splendida, magnifica!

So anche ascoltare la musica, ma in questo caso preferisco vedere.

  • Well... I've really liked Isola Jones. Really beautiful voice and very sensual acting, just like Maddalena should be! Thanks for posting this... Though I think the role of Maddalena should be performed by real altos or heavier mezzos...

By the way, when was it recorded?

  • Well, i have to admit, this is great singing. Brava for all of them, but 2 brava's for Maddalena. Lol.

  • Is that an E Sutherland sang at the end, she rocks those every time, u dont think anyone can sing them better!

  • Its a C sharp, but it does rock and no one does it better. This is the best version of this fantastic song

  • the best version no doubt

  • that mezzo is so sexy but she isnt even famous

  • She is semi-famous. She is Isola Jones and she teaches now I believe.

    Thanks for posting. This rocks!

  • very good video , thank you

  • Aragall sings wat Pavarotti sang amazingly even more so then the great Pavarotti, who him self said that Aragall was better then he and domingo put togheter.

  • beautiful quartet...

and you cant deny the woman is gifted two times :-P
