As an outsider (non-American), it's both scary and hilarious that there needs to be a YouTube video like this in 2011. The science in this video is grade-school knowledge over here... but maybe not in America? The only reason why there would have to be "debates" or discussions about creationism vs a science-based world view seems to be that the influence of religious groups is still very severe. DEBATE IS NOT OVER. In Darwin's time not enough science was known to refute macro-evolution. There was no understanding of genetics. Darwin thought the cell was just a simple glob. APES ARE QUITE COMFORTABLE IN HOW THEY WALK, just as humans are quite comfortable in how they walk. Even a slight change in the position of a muscle or bone, for either, would be excruciatingly painful and would not be an advantage for survival. There's no hard evidence that humans evolved from an ape-like creature anymore than there's hard evidence that apes evolved from a four-legged dog-like creature. GENETIC INFORMATION DOESN'T HAPPEN BY CHANCE, so it's more logical to believe that genetic similarities between all forms of life are due to a common Designer who designed similar functions for similar purposes. The reason they say the world is around billions of years old is because science thinks that it takes billions of years for evolution from then to now, we weren't around for billions of years so we can't say the Earth is that old... The renaissance was an amazing time of learning, engineering, and art. I dont remember any amazing things happening in the renaissance, but if there was, please tell me. I think that science was much more accepted in the renaissance, the start of the modern world(sort of).
As an outsider (non-American), it's both scary and hilarious that there needs to be a YouTube video like this in 2011. The science in this video is grade-school knowledge over here... but maybe not in America? The only reason why there would have to be "debates" or discussions about creationism vs a science-based world view seems to be that the influence of religious groups is still very severe. Hopefully it will reduce naturally over time. Good luck (from Europe).

BLIND WATCHMAKER NO ARGUMENT. Natural selection is no "blind watchmaker" because it can only "select" from traits having survival value. It doesn't produce those traits. It only operates once there is life and reproduction, not before, so it couldn't be involved in life's origins. A partially-evolved cell (an oxymoron) would quickly disintegrate. DEBATE IS NOT OVER. In Darwin's time not enough science was known to refute macro-evolution. There was no understanding of genetics. Darwin thought the cell was just a simple glob. APES ARE QUITE COMFORTABLE IN HOW THEY WALK, just as humans are quite comfortable in how they walk. Even a slight change in the position of a muscle or bone, for either, would be excruciatingly painful and would not be an advantage for survival. There's no hard evidence that humans evolved from an ape-like creature anymore than there's hard evidence that apes evolved from a four-legged dog-like creature. ALL REAL EVOLUTION ( i.e. varieties of dogs, cats, etc.) is the expression, over time, of already existing genes. Evolution is possible only if there’s information (genes) directing it. Only variations of already existing genes are possible, which means only limited evolution and adaptations are possible. Nature can only work with the "cards" it has. GENETIC INFORMATION DOESN'T HAPPEN BY CHANCE, so it's more logical to believe that genetic similarities between all forms of life are due to a common Designer who designed similar functions for similar purposes. @Killedkennyagain Yes, but Aristarcus (that's the right spelling) theory was not taken in serious consideration until the modern era, although based on good evidence.
His writings, anyway, did not arrive to us because they contraddicted the christian superstition, which was for all the middle age the source of our culture (or better: the base of our ignorance!).
Christians didn't burn only people, but ideas too (E.g.: the destruction of Alexandria Library in 3rd century made by "saint" Cyril).

Human beings cannot survive without water for 3 days to 5. Now thats all mankind. Why doesn't it change? Why doesn't it change to be longer for people in the desert? @Lietuva21 I never said I could, dude. See, I understand how science has all the evidence unlike religion just has faith and lets say, the bible, to the christian belief. But since science has evidence, they still dont have evidence of when we evolved, obviously because it took a while to evolve, at a slow process, and also because we were just apes at the time, so we werent really there to record it, but i still doubt it even though there is other proof...

The reason they say the world is around billions of years old is because science thinks that it takes billions of years for evolution from then to now, we weren't around for billions of years so we can't say the Earth is that old... There are probably other reasons but evolution is one if them, and the evolution theory keeps changing so... To me, I don't believe in evolution...

Religion A claims that if you pray to their god, x, y and z will happen.
Religion B claims that if you pray to their god, y will happen.
So lets test for y and see which religion is true.
We run the experiment and neither religion's claims hold at all. What do we conclude? Both of them are false.

@AdoptReality i'm not trying to start an argument, so please don't get defensive. but you were speaking about miracles, and tell me how you explain this. a friend of mine went to the doctor and discovered she had 12 cysts on her ovaries; she was told she would need surgery immediately. her church prayed like crazy for the two days prior to the surgery. taylor went back to the doctor, and somehow, all the cysts were gone.

That being said. there's plenty of reason to believe in science over religion especially in regard to the natural world. As no god has ever shown himself in natural circumstances. I wish one would. But alas, none yet.

If science is any indicator of how reality works, Then its pretty safe to say the assumptions made by the author of the abrahamic faiths are fairly wrong.
If there is a creator, none of us have any clue what we're talking about when we say we "know" him. To think otherwise is ... stretching the truth.

One of the most destructive and misleading factors in thoughts concerning God is to restrict one's thought to the "logic" of the empirical sciences and to *fail* to recognize the *limits* and boundaries of that "logic".
