  • I also did a cover of this! Check it out on my channel and please suscribe :D Thanks!

  • The only Christmas song for me.

  • I really want to learn this now! Once I'm on break, I'm going to try this out. Haven't played the piano in aaaaages.

  • @kooshballinator You'll enjoy this one. Let me know how it goes for you!

  • my singing teacher thoth me :D

  • There is sheet music for this song and it is a lot different. Vince Guaraldi wrote it quite a bit differently. I have the "Peanuts Illustrated Songbook" and it shows exactly how Vince Guaraldi wrote and played it origionally for the Peanuts cartoons back in the 1960's.

  • @MultiBandgeek96 Then you should play it that way.

  • @pianojohn113 let him play it how he wants. I like this version alot. If you want to hear Guaraldi's, then listen to HIS recording. :P

  • this is neat! although jazz it up a bit? needs syncopation!

  • @austinhimes14 Yes, syncopation works great on this song, by all means do it.

  • Love this song. Love your lessons. I am a guitar player but love the piano and I always gravitate to your lessons when I want to learn something on piano. Would love to see a lesson on "Blue Eyes" by Elton John. Good luck with your music, Nico

  • @nicogizmo Thanks, Nico, I appreciate it. I'll keep "Blue Eyes" in mind!

  • Beautiful. Thank you.

  • @UppsalaBaronen Very glad you liked it, thanks!

  • Where are my hard boiled eggs?!

  • :)

  • My piano teacher thanks you,,.. Keep em com'n

  • i love this. thank you. :)

  • Well done.

  • So beautiful! Thanks for posting!

  • You just brittend my day

    Merry Christmas

  • @Mario101Luigi Thanks very much - Merry Christmas to you as well.

  • @pianojohn113 Thank you, sir. Very beautiful. Merry Christmas.

  • Beautiful. Song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Such an amazing song...

  • great job! Vince Guaraldi is one of my all time favorites...you play exceptionally well!

  • Its much better than I can pull off. However why did you choose to avoid the triplet feel to the main phrase?

  • @theivory1 This is just the quick demonstration of the popular part of the song.

  • TYSM!! I'm singing that for a christmas recital and that realy helped! Thanks.

  • im trying to learn this for a christmas party, mayb i can impress sum grls

  • i feel like crying.

  • hey do you have Walking in the air as a tutorial as well? thats the christmas song i grew up on lol

  • I've enjoyed your tutorials. Your thorough instruction style is incredibly helpful for those of us who can play by ear and with feel but who have not studied chords - yet ... never too late! I learned this in a couple of days and it'll be fun playing it during the holiday. I've been working on some of your Joel tutorials Shes Got A Way, which you made easy, and NY State of Mind for months, which just isn'y gonna be easy. Thank you for all.

  • Fantastic! Awesome music full of sadness and beauty... of the winter season

  • @snewnammusic78 You're right. It's one of Vince Guaraldi's best.

  • @pianojohn113 i just cant stop thinking about this song... it brings back alot of good times :)

  • best song evar ! :)

  • what was the original song (like the one on the TV show) played in?

  • @Tallguyalec Good question.. I'll have to check, but I think it was in F.

  • there is nothing like getting back to the basic classic music

  • you should check out my video. i played piano for my jazz choir

  • Ha! I'd give my left tire to be in So-Cal right about now! Merry Christmas, and more videos please!!

  • @pianojohn113 ahh! Thanks! You did a really good piano version of it!

  • Ahh! My clarinet choir did this song!!!

  • OK, OK, where the heck do you live! I need to come over for some lessons!! Anywhere near Northern Wisconsin? I need lessons!!!

  • finally someone who played it in F! lol

  • lol, thanks.. I've never heard it in another key! :-)

  • It was perfect if not a little too loud for my tastes

  • excellent rendition bravo

  • this son'g can always make me smile no matter how grinchy I feel.....thanks for posting

  • veryyy pretty!!(: yu teach lessons lol(:

  • beautiful. this is my favorite christmas song and every time i hear it, it always makes me a little sad...

  • Agreed.. very nostalgic, isn't it?

  • No problem! Seeing videos like this makes me wanna pick piano back up.

  • For some reason, this makes me think of Christmas more than any other song. More than Rudolph too... That's just overplayed though.

  • great job dude amazing

  • This is one of my favorite Christmas songs, and I'm learning all my old songs on piano, then adding some. You are very good.

  • im trying to learn this in time for christmas. wish me luck!

  • Can you play "Linus and Lucy"?

  • It's that time of year AGAIN :D

  • sa-weet

  • i love it

  • thanks....just discovered this video. My 10 year old daughter is fascinated with Peanuts music and has been frustrated because the sheet music we've found is a bit ahead of her. Maybe with your videos, she'll make progress and will be so pleased with herself....thanks a million for putting these tutorials together and Merry Christmas, a bit early.....

  • I hope it does work for her.. Some of those jazz tunes are a little tricky. But she should have a little easier time with this one. If you have any questions on it, just message me and I'll be glad to help out.

And it's never too early for a Merry Christmas!

  • Wow, that's really pretty!

  • Thanks! Vince Guaraldi wrote some memorable tunes.

  • im playin this in my christmas recital coming up this December

  • Great! Let me know how it goes.

  • heheheeheh i can play this too im gonna play it on christmas when the wholw fam is here but its a secret only my brother know's and my sister

  • Cool! Your secret's safe here. :-)

  • Quite nostalgic and beautiful! Thanks, I hadn't heard that since I was a kid, but I still think about it ever so often.

  • Always brings back memories for me.

  • Yes it does! For me, being a kid in the 80's, man what good times and the Charlie Brown stuff just amplified that! Wish I could turn back time, justb for a moment (cue the nostalgia, lol!)

  • Well Done!!

  • Thanks!

  • great

  • this is beautiful

  • MERRY CHRISTMAS CHARLIE BROWN!

  • One of my absolutely favorite Christmas themes! Even though I first heard this song in Florida many moons ago, it's Ohio, where I moved years later, where it actually became significant for Christmases up north are snowy and a bit mellancholic with winter blues and all, like this song conveys! :)

Will always love it! Thanks for sharing!

  • i luv this song i really do!!! i almost cried!!! u r really talented

  • your awesome man

  • Great job, I always did like that song.

  • i think this is the most relaxing song EVER!!!

  • Agree...this is always played. Classic as much as anything out there.

  • I'm not musical enough to say what notes I'm about to mention, but its the ones played from 10 - 12 seconds in. That transition. Something about it is missing.

I only say this because a certain warmth escapes me that I will always feel when listening to this piece. I first heard it on Arrested Development. Having watched the Snoopy Clip, the joke connects more now than ever.

Thanks everyone, for loving this as much as I do.

  • One of my favorite pieces.

  • Nice!

  • I love this song. . .and I haven't seen anyone play this online. This is great.

  • lol-I thought this was going to be the Beatles song of the same name!

  • i cant play. BUt I love this song and you did a wonder job with it!!! thank you for sharing!

  • Now you are the only one who has played the chords in this song right. U have a very good ear and I enjoyed listening to this piece.

  • Just awsome... I love the you play this song. Simply beautiful.

  • you. have skill. we played this in jazz band. its great = ) thanks for the great music.

  • i like this peanut stuff. mmm! lol, jk. i like the song. but does it just repeat over and over?

  • yea from the begining

  • that was beautiful, almost imagine somebody with their special someone, very romantic too,

  • beautiful- i love those Fmagor7 chords, dont you?

  • I do indeed.. Major7s, flat-5s, all great chords in this song!

  • i also think that major7 chords are very 1960's R&B style too, like the old Delfonics song "La La Means i love you"

  • yeah, and MMORPGs are fun to play, so are FPS2

  • Yeah, the Fmaj7 to Eb9#11 sounds really nice.

  • sounds greatt! but just one thingg; its suppoesd to be knda a jazzy tunee feel to it; right now it feels knda classical; but its arright i gues;s thats jus my input lol; keep playin!! lol ^^

  • That sounds great! Could you explain the roll at the end? I've learned the song from your tutorial, but you left out that ending. Thanks!

  • Beautiful song, beautifully played. I just got the sheet music this past weekend at Times square at colony music store. I hope I can learn to play the song by Christmas day. Thanks for posting this.

  • Thanks, I appreciate it! You'll enjoy playing it.. fun song.

  • Dude you just rocked my socks. that was awesome.

  • Thanks!

  • Hi! I just wanted to tell you how great you play. This song reminds me of soo many good memories. Thank You for playing great! Happy Holidays! :)

  • Thanks very much! Happy Holidays to you!

  • It does bring tears to your eyes of really happy times. So many good memories :)

  • This 6'4" 300 pounder cried like a baby. You did good, real good. Thank you and God bless you. Your talent is great.

  • Thanks very much, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Happy holidays to you!

  • You cried at this? why?

  • I used to be able to play this on the piano. But, I lost my left side in a closed head injury due to a car accident....ending my piano career as I once knew it.

  • Man that stuff is from the soul - good you for you brother. People got to get in touch with their happy side more these days, God knows we need it.

  • did u do this by ear?

    i need sheet music!

  • this is sooooo gooooooooooood!!!

  • Thanks!

  • john, is there any way you can make a tutorial for this song with a better camera angle than your previous tutorial you did a while ago? thanks

  • Yes, in fact I meant to do that last year.. shows how far behind I am!

  • Wow! Excellent job, I love this song and I love how you played it. You are very talented, I wish I could play it too.

    Merry Chrismtas!

  • Thanks very much! Merry Christmas to you. :-)

  • please write lyrics

  • Christmas time is here Happiness and cheer

Fun for all that children call Their favorite time of the year

Snowflakes in the air Carols everywhere

Olden times and ancient rhymes Of love and dreams to share

Sleigh bells in the air Beauty everywhere

Yuletide by the fireside And joyful memories there

Christmas time is here We'll be drawing near

Oh, that we could always see Such spirit through the year

  • are you just playing the third page of the music cause i bought the music and thats wat the third page sounds like

  • such a good song.

    :)

  • This is such a smooth tune. I love it, even from childhood, I wish I could play it.

  • this is the best version!

  • well played!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm fixing to play this same song on the piano too!!!!! YAY! I love christmas!

  • you sound great. keep up the good work.

  • a more "advansed" version? you can barely play a C scale never mind this song. keep your stupid comments to yourself kiddo

  • age has nothing to do with it. a person can be 50 years old and only started playing a week ago.

  • masters performance

  • perfect!

  • i love this song!!!

  • A Christmas classic, indeed!

  • i would lovvveee to play the piano so badly it just sounds so nice

  • It wouldn't be Christmas without this one, for sure.

  • BEEE AAAA utiful...just beautiful this song makes me happy and it's so relaxing

  • Thanks very much, glad you liked it! It is relaxing and beautiful, I agree. Vince Guaraldi outdid himself here!

  • Thanks John.

  • You are very welcome.

  • Thanks for this video! Now I can play this song better! :) BTW you play WAY better than me!!!

  • Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! :-)

  • i would of liked to see some more free flowing tempo, more fluctuations, kind of jazzy...great job though

  • Well, this was just kind of a shortened version of the original.. I posted it because it's fun to play!

  • It song in 3/4?

  • I believe it's in 3/4... or 6/8? I think it changes tempo somewhere in the middle, but I could be wrong.

  • I'd love to do a sax solo behind that. Awesome...in any season. Good music is.

  • A sax solo would be great... You're right, this song is good any time of the year!

  • Thanks very much, I appreciate it!

  • maaan I'm so jealous. I'm trying to learn this song now, but you play it with such ease! Excellent job

  • Thanks very much! It's not too hard to play really. You'll get it soon enough, no problem.

  • Marvelous, I thought it had lots of feeling

  • Thank you! I do like this song a lot.

  • perfect , thank you

  • Thanks very much! :-)

  • nice job, sounds good... but it could use a little more feeling

    just some friendly criticism :)

  • Always welcome!

  • Nice!-rather than silence in the A section after you play the word "here", throw in a few more notes..(it sounds like dead time.) Perhaps you are trying to emphasize the beauty of that chord by holding on to it, but I think you could add even one note in your left hand in the bass afterward (like you did in the B section - just that one note added a lot!). Finally, when you play that last chord of the B section, hang on to it longer; enjoy it- before returning to the A section. Tasty ending!!

  • Thanks! Very perceptive comments on your part.. and helpful.. I added those notes after "here" as a filler, you're right, and it's a great chord. You are correct on all counts, and I like your suggestion of holding onto the last chord of the B section. I'm always looking for ways to improve the sound, so thanks!! I assume you are an accomplished musician?

  • Yes, hold a Masters Degree in Music- have taught college music courses for the past ten years; sing jazz standards and play drums professionally. Thanks for taking my suggestions - just a few subtle changes in interpretation can really make a difference! I like to linger on and stress those exotic chords - and tempo rubato adds a great deal as well - don't feel locked in to any certain tempo; this is a very heartfelt piece...enjoy it more! take care

  • Well thanks again for the suggestions, your comments are always welcome here.

  • It was nice of you to share. You did an awesome job, I loved it!!!

  • Thank you, I'm glad you liked it!

  • happy new year! love this song!

  • Thanks very much. Happy new year to you too!

  • cool!

  • Wow! Wonderful job John! You did a beautiful job on this tune. You have total musical control of this song with your fantastic musical skill. Have a wonderful New year!

  • Thanks so much! You have a great New Year too.

  • I carry this song in my heart all year long. You have made alot of people very happy by posting your beautiful rendition of this song. Once again Thanks very much!

  • That's very nice of you, thank you!

  • you did good...

i got the sheet music to that and you have to have looooooong fingers to play that...good job

  • Indeed, long fingers do help! Or you have to be good at leaping across the keys.

  • What a lovely, soulful rendition. The way the melody touches one's emotions and sentiment, I always thought Christmas Time is Here embodied the spirit of Christmas. Impressive.

  • Thanks, I appreciate it. Your sentiments about this song are mine exactly.. it is the spirit of Christmas.

  • I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

Taking cues from you on how to play Christmas Time is Here, I adapted the melody to Bb clarinet. My brother played violin and we had a great time playing joyful music on Christmas Eve.

Thank you, for making this song accessible for an improving musician to learn on short notice. It took a couple of days, but was such a breakthrough learning experience, I had to buy the sheet music.

    Have a Happy New Year.

  • Wow, that's great.. I would imagine transposing it to Bb took a lot of work! I'm really glad the video was helpful, though.

My Christmas was great, thanks! Happy new year to you too.
