Surfing Hawaii North Shore

"north shore" refers to the northwest facing stretch of oahu island. bethany hamilton was bitten at a north facing beach on the island of kauai (tunnels beach), about a hundred miles away. shark attacks are very rare in crowded waters (such as the north shore) because sharks tend to fear large crowds of humans. as they probably should, because i'm willing to bet humans kill more sharks than any other animal does.

I surfed the North Shore while stationed at Pearl Harbor. The locals didnt look at us military guys to highly but still. . I agree surfing is a feeling like nothing else. I waves like that.

sweet footie man, I might have been out that day.. Those groms come out all the time.. we always see em come out like 4 or 5 + like sea of groms that rip to take over haha. Surf Velzy all the time, thanks for not showing how to get there =D

I lived at Velzyland from 1969 - 1973. Never much of a crowd in those days, only when the guys from Town came out. There were some little groms then too that we watched out for, pre leash days. Obviously things have changed, I still go back every year. Corky Carroll lived with me for a little while. He wouldn't surf Velzyland, too shallow, so he'd go to Pipe. V-Land still the best.

waikiki is the best because the bottom is sand. everywhere else is reef. once you surf, your life will never be the same...
