  • I'm just gonna throw this out there, the Decemberists are one of my top 10 favorite bands of all time!

  • This is amazing very beautiful sounding : ) love ya stuff Decemberists

  • does anyone remember the jayhawks? this is kinda reminiscent of them

  • The King is Dead is the greatest album I have in my car. And there's a lot of albums in there......

  • This songs' okay....it's not the second coming.

  • does anyone get how genius the decemberists are? they play basically country, but mixed with so many things and so many different instruments!! it's just too genius!!

  • @MusiLinnniejj yup some of us are getting the genius vibe from these incredible guys.

  • @arfurlife whoooohooo!

  • why the fuck is bucky larson the pre commercial for this....doesn't make any sense

  • this is just an abyss of beauty and smiles andfuck

  • I think... I think that I can die and go to heaven now, and I don't even believe in heaven. I think that if it's possible for a group of people to create something as beautiful as this, then maybe hope isn't lost. Maybe, even if there is no god, this is the closest thing that we can ever have to a messiah; a messenger of peace, and purity, and beauty. Is there anyone here who can deny that this is a beautiful message? Is there anyone here who can deny that maybe, humanity can set this right?

  • @CelloRocks2 Those are some beautiful words. I feel the same way!

  • saw them live, seriously the most amazing show i have ever been to. colin asked to crowd to two step during this song and afterwards he said "okay guys, i feel as if we have a relationship now, and i need to tell you, friend to friend, you really need to work on your two stepping." love colin.

  • @1b42thenskipabeat I know they give the best concerts ever! At the one I went to they were playing the Mariner's Revenge and we all had to scream like we were being eaten by a whale! It was definitely the best concert I have ever been to! In fact, I'm seeing them again tonight! :D

  • @RainboRainicorn My History of Rock and Roll teacher was talking about that today. I believe she said it was one of the best concerts she's been to. I don't know how long ago she went to it though.

  • Everyone should've gone to their FREE concert. It was in Salt Lake City, so, you know, if you were near...you could've gone. They rocked! The did THREE encores!

  • Masterpiece of beauty, easily ranked up there with Simon & Garfunkel in my ears.

  • you dont risk anything except to reveal your own arrogance what a ridiculously misinformed goat to assume that he/she risks anything except his/her own disreguard for the pure truth that is echoing in every note played by those you speak so highly of and yet do not eminate anything more than a blink 182 fan

  • only one dislike? must have been a mistake

  • My darling, my sweetheart, I am in your sway...

    oh how I love!

  • i am in this band's sway.

  • who can dislike this .... thats horrible this is such a touching song !!!!

  • this only has 35,000 views? that's a crime

  • @jrh7224

    A perfect crime?...

  • This song is so warm. This album is almost an instant classic.

  • one song i hear R.E.M. another i hear Niel Young and now i hear Pink Flyod kinda so diverse and so good

  • zero people dislike this song

  • I have to admit....I really liked the Hazards of Love. But this is really good too!

  • Totally Beautiful. Weary steel guitars always make me cry. The lyrics are awesome.

  • the lyrics are so beautiful.

  • I don't normally comment on anything but these guys are the shit! It's been so long since a band has me stand and take notice. The Deceberists are hot! got to say I hate still guitar but they made it work. this is a great song and it is as close to sucking as they can get.

  • this is all to country for me

  • @chente102

it's folk. the guitar tone can be considered pretty country (steel guitars.. yeah) but this has way more depth to it to just be called 'country'

  • My Darling, My Sweetheart, I am in your sway....

    * amazing *

  • Reminds me of "Find the River." I kind of think these guys should just take up where R.E.M. left off.

  • This song is AWESOOOOME!

  • Hey Henry

    can you hear me?

    Let me see those eyes

    this distance

    between us

    can seem of mountain size

    ...*dies of beautiful*

  • @lostaddict12 but boy

you are gunna stand your groung

they rise to you, you blow them down

let me see you stand your ground

they rise to you you blow them down

i love this song and im going to the concert in columbus ohio in 2 days!

  • @lostaddict12 I know this Henry at a mountains distance.

  • Man, it's been a number of years since I checked in on the Decemberists. They have gotten fucking AWESOME.

  • They're the band I always thought Wilco aspired to but never achieved due to lack of focus. They're REM, The Band, Wilco all wrapped up in one. But they outwrite anyone else in modern popular music...at least I think so.

  • Like this song? I wrote a review on The King is Dead on my new music blog. Please check it out! :)

    acousticgab.blogspot.com

  • Really incredible in an old-school Wilco kind of way. Not many bands can pull off the slide guitar and the harmonica without sounding cheesy. Incredible writing. Love it.

  • @choad1976 I thought the same thing in regards to drowning. Of course, when I saw the first single's title, Down By the Water, I figured that would mention it.

This is the first song really sticking with me. That chord change when they repeat the chorus each time is great.

  • If you like this tune you might want to check out the song Wagon Wheel by Old Crow Medicine Show. Both good bands, with great tunes.

  • i need this album

  • This whole album is fantastic. Though I risk alienating a lot of hardcore fans by saying so, I adored Hazards of Love. However, without anything more to build toward in that direction, The Decemberists have shown their amazing versatility by moving back toward the single hits that began their career. Just incredible.

  • @LordoftheFireflies I agree, I first fell in love with their Picaresque and Hazards of love with their romantic strangeness and historical references and such, but I'm really loving this album too, though in a different way, but no less :)

  • @LordoftheFireflies

But they didnt remake the bagmans gambit

    That's just horrible

  • @LordoftheFireflies i love hazards of love i have the CD and listen to it every day

  • @LordoftheFireflies couldn't agree more

  • @LordoftheFireflies I totally agree, and I sort of consider myself a hardcore fan. It was different, but it was still great.

  • Wow, a whole record without a song about drowning! I really dig these cats. I was slightly disappointed with the Hazards of Love record. Hearing the new record in its entirety, all I have to say is, Bully for you, Decemberists!

  • @choad1976 hahah you gotta love colin's pseudo obsession with drowning/water. the song list is endless

  • @choad1976 hahah you gotta love colin's mild obsession with drowning/water. the song list is endless

  • Yes.
