Wow you guys are as weird as I am, my rich aunt had a VERY large 65 or 66 Zenith console with so many lights inside it looked like a city when I would lift the lid just enough to peek in. Your right about the smell and that shiny black record spinning with the compartment light shinning on it, then there was the bass pounding my chest through the louvered speaker grills, god what a fascination! Thanks for the memories guys, now I'm going to put on a record and get lost in them.

Hi, I have a player just like this. I have trouble getting the 45 spindle out of the storage hole. Is there a spring down there or some little trick to get it out of there? Also have a generic spindle and looking for one like yours with the rca logo on top. Do you know where I could get one?

@carolinashagman there was foam pad so if it was dropped it would not brake out the bottom of the holder

foam rots out just like in the 8 tracks so you just need to put some thing in there about 1/2 inch thick

@carolinashagman Yes, there should be a piece of foam below the spindle adapter, this pushes the spindle up when it is unlocked. With the foam in place and RCA facing you a gentle push down will lock the spindle down preventing it from rubbing the bottom of a LP, a quarter turn to the right or left and the spongy foam if present will pop the spindle up so as you can get ahold of it and pull it out.

I got my silvertone back and it sounds good now

I converted to stereo by way of the fact my add on speaker has its own amp

you just need the cart. and 2 more wires in the tone arm

wow this brings back memories of an old console turntable we used to have. It was from the 50s. Want to know what I remember most about it.? The smell. you would open the lid of the turntable and stick your head in, you would have to lean down into because it was a big floor standing unit and the disc sat pretty deep inside of it. Anyway, you could smell the old electronics and the tubes. I loved that smell. And the low end hum when you powered up the amp. Those are the things I remember.

Not a surprise to me, in fact the smell and heat from the tube amp was-is my favorite part about these old players and one of the first things I mentioned when I bought my first one upon my reintroduction into these players a couple years ago.

@emilshere Sounds like your memories are similar to mine. My parents had one exactly like this down to the Mahogany finish. I also remember that consolette had bass that would ratlle the pictures on the wall!
