  • No mention of the Scots-Picts (NOT Ulster Scots) who had to leave Scotland and go to America due to persecution and the Highland clearances and were fundamental in the creation of America? They were everything from presidents, bankers, creators of the army and navy and even the Klu Klux Klan! The battle of kings mount was a battle between Ulster Scots and Scots-American loyalists. There's Hypocrisy there.

  • @neroangelo8

there was no picts at that time. the picts disapeared off the face of the earth not long after the romans left. the picts mearly just intermarried into other celtic clans who moved into alba at the time and christianity came and more different cultures and tribes came including vikings. then the irish scotti tribe which was the most powerfull and largest clan in alba and they basicly turned alba into scotland

  • hey this is cool. i have heard something about this before. very interesting. thanks to these great scots irish americans for fighting for our independance. thank you for posting this.

  • The Ulster-Scots a proud British people...what is very interesting about this is that they turned to fight their fellow British troops at that time.

Clearly for these British Protestants that were the Ulster-Scots to fight our homeland the King or Leaders at the time must have been bad people.

  • Yes, it is really interesting I agree.

I suppose if a really nasty political regime came into power in the future that we would just do the same.

During the Home Rule crisis 100 years ago the government deployed Royal Navy warships to the Ulster coast in preparation to fight AGAINST the loyal Ulster people who where taking up arms. These same people went on to make the ultimate sacrifice to die for King and Country in the First World War as part of the 36th Ulster Division.

  • very true good point!

  • Thanks for posting this! I'm a hillbilly, descendant of the Scotch Irish! :D We never learned about this in school so I'm very pleased to learn about my people's history now.

  • You are most welcome - thanks for the feedback! Just don't forget about your kinfolk over the ocean. ;-)

  • ulster scots.. not scotch irish... we ulster scots do not consider ourselves irish

  • I agree with you... however, an awful lot of people around the world use the term Scots-Irish. Therefore, I have included it in the title of the video so that they can find it too.

  • fair point.. are you from northern ireland?

im from county antrim.. around ballymena

  • @dubstepist Why can't you consider yourself Ulster Scots and Irish. I'm Irish but, as our constitution states, I respect the traditions of our island.

  • In Northern Ireland we have been shown during the troubles of what the Irish identity is. Republicanism is the beacon for everything Irish, they call the Irish of the South 'turncoats' and 'weak'. Why would we wish to align or associate ourselves with this 'irishness'. Why is the true meaning of being Irish?

  • it's called the revolutionary war, actually.
