do your pads have the graphic on the side? and if they do does it actually slow down your sliding because i just bought a new pair of V4 7450's and they have the graphic on the side and lots of people are saying that it slows their sliding down.. :/
great stance but in the movement drill where your moving around the crease, stopping and starting your close is in by your chest and closed. make sure it's open, one less step before making a save :)
thanks needed to learn some more drills trying to improve my skills and get a little better this will be my first year on a team because ive spent a long time practicing

@LethalStick97That is called a butterfly slide, the way he pushed straight was using his goalie skate (which is straight) to push directly to the side while keeping his body straight. he kept his right leg centered with where he was going and used power from his thighs to push himself directly sideways.
From watching the drill at the beginning I noticed that you are keeping your blocker up, leaving a gap in your armpit. I have been scored on many times because I had the same 'flaw', especially since anything shot in that region will have the tendency to squeeze into the hole (i know i know sickos). Excellent recovery rate and reactions.
Very good tech's, I agree with the glove comments, look at the stance of NHL goalies, they stand big and glove open and tilted 80 degree angle to the puck. Also it's better to stand big. I'm also learning and these are some of the things i'm working on. One this to mention, you have excellent recoveries and you have speed. Watch your rebounds, this is where they get us guys! Keep it up man, you R Good.
this goalie cant even keep his glove straight ord open, he just has it there like he forgot about it, and i didnt see him grab any pucks with it, this goalie is a bad example of anything for goalies
Flyersfan.... I don't think you know what your talking about. On the first few drills, you can clearly see they are shoting low expect every once in a while the puck goes up high and he stays up. Don't critize when your not sure what your critizing on... also to the kid who says "im not a goalie.... heres my advice, but dont get mad if I'm wrong cause I'm not a goalie".... you can't give advice to someone who is clearly quite good in the field of goaltending then say your not realysure aboutit
I've always been told to push of my toe, but i never slid far and im not a big goalie maybe the same size as the kid in the video.. but i think it's just my pad honestly cause it like drags on the ground like the bottom half so hopefully when i get my new pads it will be the problem lol
what part of your foot are you supposed to push off on? i usually push off the ball of my foot or the heel becuase thats the only place i have an edge (havnt sharpened in my skates in a year and a half)
the problem with me is when i go into my butterfly and slide over with my skate i always almost never get a good push its like i just slip almost and when ever i do my t-push i always slip some how lmao any suggestions ?
try to turn your chest to the puck first and legs too. you cant make a proper slide to the post if your pushing leg is behind of you. rise your knee to high, be sure your skate is little front of you if youre comparing it your other pad on ice. then make a push, use your whole leg and skate, final push with toe.
You're exceptionally good at placing rebounds where you want them. My only things is glove placement and how open it is. It doesn't seem to be affecting you in this video, just keep it in mind because as you move up the hockey ladder players are definatley going to take advantage of that. Otherwise I see you are an excpetional goaltender. And I like how you follow your rebounds during practice, that's the stuff that appeals to scouts.
@acenspades your gf must be a damn slut then if just from watchin a good goalie she wants to have his kids...i think most would agree...no offense just sayin...
pretty good but glove is never in position lol and the movements around the net no rotation at all not even turning your head to look where your going someone could completely move the net on you without you even knowing lol
Backside pushes do seem a little slow, although I'm sure he's probably better at them now. They're not the easiest thing to do in terms of goalie movements.
When he's moving towards his glove side (in the box/triangle drills), he's got some overlap going with his blocker on his pads. Move it a few inches to the sides and it'll cover more area.
Tight butterfly!!!
Good video taping until you started doing the whole zoom in/zoom out...
you can eliminate a step and get over quicker if you're making a pad save with your blocker side and you get up on that leg.. you put it back down when its half up then you pick up your left leg then pick up your right leg again and make it in 3 steps instead of 2
the drill is just to work on leg development, not rebound control, stick control ect,,, just leg development,, the shots are suppose to be at ice level for this drill
The rebounds he let out actually weren't that bad considering they were only being directed with the pads. He put most of them off to the sides, whereas many goalies will leave fat rebounds directly or very close to the centre/front of them.
just some helpful tips, by the way your really talented, during the crease movement drill remember to be squared away when coming to the top of the crease, you seem to angle too far to your glove side when leading with your blocker and the opposite when you lead with your glove. Your body seems to be angled towards the direction of the pipe you were at last when coming to the top of the crease.
my son is 5 and just started playing goal. He also plays out every other time but goalie is his passion. Youtube "Luca has no 5 hole". if you had any advice for a young goalie what 3 things should I focus on in his first year. Oh and what level is your son playing at he looked like he was stopping grown men shooting at him.....nice video
I would let you son continue aternating between goal and player . The most important thing for your son at his age is to enjoy and have fun what he is doing, the most important thing for me to teach Mitch at an early age was to become a good skater, work hard and respect other players and most important the coaches who spend hours helping you develope your skills. These skills happen with time but should always be worked on no matter how old you are.Skate-Skate Skate and then skate some more
i would say always stay square to the puck challenge the shooter keep your stick infront of your 5 hole even if u know ur going to save it dont go down to fast because they could always shoot high once u get in a bigger league such as midgets and check were u are at in the goal before u challenge them by clanking your stick and snagger on the posts(that what i always do when im in net it seems to help)
I agree, you've got a lot of potential as a young little goalie. Only thing I saw was that the glove was near closed on your goalie crease movement. Nonetheless, great job!
swakenspanken is totaly right the glove is closed most of the time. i'd like to see how that goalie does with shots above the mits seem like he's always in butterfly

yo go with either Stomp, Vaughn, Montreal, I have Stomp blocker and glove and they are amazing and made in CANADA!!!! i would suggest Stomp or montreal the most
xXElectrickXx is right, Vaughn and Montreal gloves are amazing!
Ive tried the Vaughn, they are very comfortable, and I have the whole Montreal Set, gloves & pads and they are amazing, the catcher is easy to break into, took me a couple of days, all though when the leather inside gets cold it hardens very quickly,
Dude, great video...just open up the glove, when u get older and shots get faster it will be easier than opening it and then closing it to catch a puck...
yeah ur an amazing goalie but you should try to use leg extensions, because ur kicking at the puck resulting in a rebound, so work on that then you'll be an absoloutly amazing goalie
dude, yu are a SIIICCCKK goaile, and don' let anyone trash on you man, but also te the feedback. right around 4:03 you kick out a rebound right into the middle. i know it's tought to control those but try to get a stick on that.- again man, keep doing what you're doing, you're really quick and have great positioning
Good job man. I'm 15 and play for my High School in Canada. My SV% is .916 and you look good to me. Great reflex's, recoveries, speed, rebound control, technique, etc. Keep it up and keep the dream alive.
very nice!... man dont you hate the leg development drill?, haha my coach makes me go back and forth 12 times each practice :( haha it kills soo much. Btw very nice butterfly stance!
Im a girl and i am triing to learnt he butterfly, but i cant seem to bring my legs in all of the time and i cant do the butterfly slide. could you tell me how, or give me some tips and ideas of how to practice at home in my garage?

Dude, great video...just open up the glove, when u get older and shots get faster it will be easier than opening it and then closing it to catch a puck...

your good with your pads but dont let up too many rebounds
goalieman31327 3 years ago
yeah ur an amazing goalie but you should try to use leg extensions, because ur kicking at the puck resulting in a rebound, so work on that then you'll be an absoloutly amazing goalie

dude, yu are a SIIICCCKK goaile, and don' let anyone trash on you man, but also te the feedback. right around 4:03 you kick out a rebound right into the middle. i know it's tought to control those but try to get a stick on that.- again man, keep doing what you're doing, you're really quick and have great positioning

Good job man. I'm 15 and play for my High School in Canada. My SV% is .916 and you look good to me. Great reflex's, recoveries, speed, rebound control, technique, etc. Keep it up and keep the dream alive.
