Seems much more realistic and there he's guarenteed game time. And seeing as he has played along Vermaelen for club and country seems much more realistic. At Manchester United I see no way he could break into the squad as you have the likes of Vidic (Best Defender in the World without a doubt) and Ferdinand (Amazing defender when fit and injury-free), the only time he would get time would be in Carling Cup, Fa Cup and when a defender gets injured.

And also seeing as Manchester United have atleast two players in every defensive position (CB Smalling, Evans, Brown) RB (Fabio and Rafael) LB (Evra or Fabio/Rafael have both played there before) but knowing Alex Ferguson he'll go for a player who he knows can deal with the physicality of the Premier League such as Jose Enrique who has been heavily linked with you over the last few weeks. And he suits Arsenal style so if he has to choice between the two he'll join Arsenal.
